Her mouth is sweet.
That's the thought that breaks through everything — the anger, the dragon's residual snarl, the cold night air still biting at my skin. All of it dissolves the moment she kisses me, and what's left underneath is startlingly simple.
She's sweet. And she kissed me first.
I pull her closer.
She makes a small sound against my lips that does something irreversible to my ability to think clearly. My hand slides to the back of her neck, and I feel her breath catch, and the dragon — already retreating — goes completely silent.
I reach past her and pull the velvet drape down over the window. The carriage interior dims. Just the two of us and the sway of the wheels and the sound of her breathing.
