Leo checked his time, it was almost six o’clock in the evening, and he knew his mum would be on her way back home from work, with that he went to the kitchen brought out plate and began setting the table, he wanted surprising his mum.
Leo was done setting the table, when he had a knock at the door, he took a quick glance at the dining table once more to see if everything was in place, before going out to open the door for his mum, whom he knew was probably the one at the door.
“I am coming,” he shouted and walked to the door.
“Who is it?” he asked.
“It’s me, open up.” His mum said.
Leo opened the door immediately, and without looking gave his mum a warm hug, on raising his head up that was when he saw Melissa.
“Oh, I didn’t know you were with someone,” he said surprised.
“Hello Leo,” Melissa waved at him.
“Hey,” he went on and hugged her.
“Do come in,” Leo said to her. As they both walked into the house.
“Hmmm, this house smells nice, did you cook?” Catherine turned to look at his son who was behind her surprised.
“Yes mum,” Leo said and helped his mum with her handbag.
“I will be right back, table is set already,” he said to them as he walked to the corner which led to his mum’s room to drop her handbag.
Melissa and Catherine got seated at the dining chair while they wait for Leo who prepared the food to come serve it.
“I never knew he can cook,” Melissa whispered to Catherine who was sitting directly opposite her.
“Sure he can, although I haven’t tested it before, but let’s keep our fingers crossed,” she giggled.
“Okay,” Leo said behind them as he got to the dining table.
He knew that his mum and Melissa were taking about him, because he noticed their mouth moving when he was coming, but they quickly shut up when they noticed him.
“So what did I miss?” he asked.
“What, nothing,” Melissa snapped.
“Mum,” Leo winked.
“I know you guys are hiding something from me but I will find out soon enough,” he teased and served the food, adding one more plate to the table since he didn’t know Melissa was coming.
They all ate at chatted and laughed over jokes quacked by one other. After which they drank wine and Catherine went to her room to have her bath, leaving Melissa and Leo to clear the table and wash the dishes.
“I will head to my room now, Please Melissa don’t stay late out here, you need to be at home before your parents get back, I might not come out again from my room because I feel so tired and needs rest,” Catherine said.
“Yes, second mum,” Melissa said.
“You have nothing to worry about, I will make sure she leaves soon,” Leo assured his mum.
“Goodnight mum,” Melissa said.
“Goodnight Lissa,” Catherine said and left them.
They watched her walk to her room, when she was out of site Leo grabbed Melissa’s hand and led her to his room leaving the table unclear.
When he got to his room he shut the door and made Melissa to sit on his bed.
“What are you doing here,” he snapped.
“I am here to see you,” Melissa said.
“What part of, your parents don’t want to see us together do you not understand?”
“I told you we will see later this evening but you choose to come here to my house and get I and my mum into trouble.”
“I am sorry if that is what you think, I didn’t mean to get you into trouble, and moreover no one saw me and your mum coming back home together.”
“You think so,” Leo said angrily, pacing the room.
Melissa on seeing that Leo was angry stood up and walked to him.
“It’s okay, I understand that you don’t want me here, I will be leaving now,” Melissa made to leave the room as Leo held her back.
“Look, I am sorry with the way I spoke to you just now, but it’s just that I don’t want you or my mum to get in trouble,” he tries to calm Melissa down
“What happened last night with my father?” Melissa asked.
“I would have called you that night to know what happened, but seeing you don’t have a phone.”
“Please just tell me what happened,” Melissa pleaded with Leo.
“Come sit,” Leo took her back to the bed and made her sit as he took a sit beside her too.
“Your dad told the security men to come get me, and he told me not to step my foot into your house again and that he didn’t want to see the both of us ever again, else my mum will lose her job and this house too, and you know what that would mean for us,” Leo explained.
Melissa was shocked over what Leo just said.
“Why would my dad threaten you,” Melissa Muttered.
“that’s because he saw me with you, come on Melissa who wouldn’t, if his daughter sneaks out of the house in the middle of the night to be with a man, and more you are still every young,” Leo said.
“So I understand your dad perfectly well,” he exhaled, trying to ease his tension.
“It’s okay, none of that would happen, for now I will just come see you at home and get back home before they comes back from work, no more sneaking out at night,” Melissa said to him.
“No Melissa, we are not going to see at all and that is final,” Leo said standing up.
“You need to get going now,” he said turning his back on Melissa.
“Please, Okay I will go, but let me come and see you after school every day,” Melissa walked over to him, and stood in front of him so he can see her face.
“Let me walk you to the door,” Leo said taking Melissa’s hand.
Melissa find a way to free her hand from Leo’s grip as she went back to sit on the bed.
“Fine, if you don’t want me to come and see you after school, then I will stay here and let my parents trace me back her,” Melissa stretched her body on Leo’s bed.
“What are you doing, please you need to get going now, this is almost seven thirty and your parents would be on their way by now,” Leo urged her.
“Say yes to my request first,” Melissa said, feeling more comfortable on the bed.
Leo was silent for a while, as she tries to think if he should give in to Melissa’s request or not, after much pacing around he finally said.
“Fine, but it has to be three times in a week, so you decide the days by yourself, and make sure no one notices you coming here,” he told her.
“That’s fine by me,” Melissa jumped out of the bed and gave him a warm hug, as she peek him on his cheek before leaving the room.
Leo followed her out immediately.
“Where are you going?” Melissa asked when she noticed Leo following her to then door.
“You don’t expect me to leave you walking back home all by yourself, do you?” Leo told her, as they both walked out of the house.
“I thought you are scared not to be seen with me,” Melissa giggled.
But Leo didn’t say a word, but followed her to a point, where he was sure Melissa could get home without have any trouble.
“I have to stop here,” he said to her.
“Okay, that for walking me,” Melissa said.
“You can now go, while I watch you,” Leo said to her.
“I love you Leo,” Melissa said and left him.
Leo stood at that point and watched until Melissa vanished before he turned around and went back to the house.
When Melissa got home her parent where not yet back from walk, she find her way through the back door and went up to her room.
She was doing her home assignment when she heard her parents car drove in, Melissa hurriedly finished up with her school work and changed into her night gown as she went to bed, that night was kind of bored for her, because she knew that she won’t sneak out of the house to go see Leo.
Melissa was trying to catch a sleep, when she had footstep at her doorstep; she quickly closed her eyes and acted as though she was fast asleep.
The door quietly opened and someone walked into the room, as she opened her eyes a little, so she could see who just walked into her room.
On seeing that it was her father, Melissa closed her eyes again, after some minutes she had the door open again and close, she finally opened her eyes and sat up on her bed.
‘I knew that you will be here,’ she thought to herself.
‘Thank goodness I didn’t go out, that would have been dangerous,’ she said to herself.
Melissa lay back on her bed and didn’t realize when she slept off with so much thought about Leo in her mind.
Leo went back home cleared the table, wash the plates they used in eating, and went up to check on his mum, before going to sleep.
