Saturday, when my eyes opened, my thoughts drifted to a fine stream of light. Hundreds of tiny dust flurries pirouetted aimlessly, basking in the sunshine. Then memories of yesterday pillaged my thoughts. My eyes fell onto the empty pillow where Bane slept last night. The only signs left were a faint woodsy scent and one long stem rose, red. I picked the flower off his pillow, careful not to prick my finger from its thorns and sniffed the delicate scent, “Hmm.” I smiled, touching the rose petal to my nose.
