Two hours’ worth of tailing and it had all been worth it. His watch said it was nearly one A.M. Kurt strode along the street in the darkness, hands jammed into the pockets of his coat, watch cap pulled down. Too much time in San Diego and the Middle East had thinned his blood. Damn, this city was cold. He knew it was a few degrees above freezing, but with weather like this he ought to be seeing penguins. He crossed the bridge over the river heading toward the small apartment he and Maggie were using. All the while, he watched for anyone following him. There was no such thing as too paranoid in this business. Nothing flagged his attention. He circled the block once anyway before he went into the building.
