Kurt pulled up to the main gate of Hohenfels and rolled down his window. To the guard he said, “My name is Kurt Halstead. Captain Hubert of SPAWAR was supposed to call ahead and get clearance for me and my partner Maggie Degginger.”
“Do you have your passports?” the guard asked.
Kurt handed them over.
The guard took them into the kiosk beside the gate and scanned them through the reader. He came back out. “You’re cleared. Where exactly are you going? They didn’t tell me which building.”
“The clinic. My partner’s really sick. She needs a doctor ASAP.”
“Follow the road around to the left and turn at the first intersection. The clinic is about a quarter mile along on the right hand side.”
“Thank you,” Kurt said.
He went where he was directed and pulled into a parking space as close to
