Chapter 7
Eve POV
My heart almost popped out of my chest. That guy is such a crazy nerve-wrecking fellow, he scared the guts out of me. For some seconds, I thought he was going to kiss me. He's going to kill me before my time in that company. He's so annoying.
After getting some things at the mall with Marian, I drove her home, before finally going home. I've had a hectic day, and I just can't wait to get home and unite myself with my comforting bed. I feel like sleeping for five days straight. That's crazy, right? But that's how I feel.
After driving for what seemed like forever, I finally drive into my compound, and park neatly at the parking lot, alighting from the car afterward. It's almost 8pm, all thanks to Marian we spent almost forever at the mall. She kept picking things and dropping them, and I couldn't have left her there to herself, right? We ended up spending over two hours, and now I have to battle tiredness. I stride to the entrance door and push the door open, not after getting the items I bought, from the booth.
Stepping into the living room, I drag my tired feet to the kitchen, where I drop the bags, and arrange the items in the cabinet. I stride out afterward.
"You're finally home. I was about to call you," Nanny Cleo sighs as soon as she sights me. She's standing in the living room. She must've been worried about me. I returned home at an unusual time, so it's fine for her to be worried, right?
"Sorry, I was busy at work, and after office hours, I had to drop by the mall to get some stuffs we don't have here. I should have called you, but something came up with my phone. I'm going to get a new one tomorrow after work," I reply to her tiredly, letting all of my weight on the couch, reclining on it.
"Oh, I see. Your dad called and mentioned that he called your line, but it wasn't reachable. I was already getting worried about you," She announces, and I roll my eyes, raising my head to look at her. Why the heck was he calling me, huh? What does he want from me? The last time I checked, all they care about is business. They don't even care if they have a child here, not that I care about them too anyways. So why was he calling?
"Ok," I reply casually, standing up to my feet and dragging myself to the stairs, "I'll be in my room," I further say, taking the staircase.
"Come on hunnie, you don't have to be like that, ok? They care about you. I've told you this several times to stop letting this bother you, they're your parents, and love and care about you. You just have to understand them. They're always busy, that's why," She explains, as she stands up to her feet, and walks over to me.
"Really? Did you say that they're busy? They're too busy for their only child? Do they care about me? Do they ever think about my happiness and welfare? All they care about, is their business, their wealth, and nothing else. And you're still telling me that they care about me? Is that what you call caring?" I scoff as a drop of tears slid down my cheeks. I have been trying to put on a smile and act like everything is fine, I have been trying so hard not to let it get to me, but a part of me still feels hurt whenever I think about it. I'm tired of this whole thing, I'm tired of pretending everything is ok, I'm tired of pretending I'm fine when I'm not. Yes, they gave me everything, they made sure I'm financially ok, and they're providing all my needs, but that's not entirely what I need, right? I still need their love and attention, right?
"Evelyn..." She calls me again, holding my hand, and wipes my tears away with her thumb.
"Come on, don't be like this, ok? It's just for a matter of time, and everything will be fine," She assures me, and I nod my head. She smiles softly, pulling me into her arms afterward. With her around me, I always feel happy, with her around me, I feel my hope alive. She's the only one I can call a family even though I have parents. She's closer to me than anyone else.
"Come on, go have your bath and come back for dinner. I made your favorite," She ruffles my hair playfully, and I chuckle softly.
"I'll be back," And with that, I turn around and climb the staircase, heading to my room...
Mr. Turner's mansion...
Jayden Turner
"Are you going to go through the stress of finding another secretary, or do you have someone in mind already?" He asks the question I've been praying silently that he asks.
"But if you ask me to make a suggestion, I'd suggest you make Evelyn your secretary. She used to be my secretary before Liam took over. She's skilled and good at what she does," Dad suggests, and I can't help the amount of excitement that spurs through me. My plan is falling in place, and I'm loving this.
"That wouldn't be a bad idea, dad. I think I should give her a try, but if she messes things up, then I'm getting another secretary right away," I say to him with finality in my voice, even if I know that I won't do a thing like that. I'm going to make her pay for being mannerless.
"You have nothing to worry about, son. I'm sure she won't mess things up. She's really good at this. In that case, you should email her tonight, and tell her to resume as your secretary by tomorrow," He further says, and I nod my head.
"Sure, dad. I will do that," I smile at him...
