Chapter 20

Jayden stands by the window made with glasses in his office. From there, he can see the parking lot and the main entrance to the company. He is very early to work today, he has an unfinished project to sort out. Also, he will be having a meeting in the company with his business partners today. He hopes that his secretary will be early to work so that she can help him with sorting out some important documents.

Talking of Evelyn, he slept late last night because of her. He is not a fan of stories, especially romance books. But, he read a book by her favorite author, Colleen Hoover. Just because he is still jealous of how the conversation she had with Morris was flowing. Maybe, they can talk without any arguments or quarrels for the first time, if she discovers that he read a book by Colleen Hoover.

Jayden catches a glimpse of an unfamiliar car, he is shocked when Evelyn alights from the car. Her car is not like this. Maybe she has gotten another one. Her family is surprisingly rich, she could afford it.

He makes a mental note to ask her about her family, later. He is curious to know why she is working as a secretary, despite her family's riches.

His lips curl when a man also alights from the car. Jayden watches as the man plants a kiss on her lips.

His green eyes blazing with rage. He shut his eyes for a second and moved away from the window.

That is Evelyn's boyfriend.

Jayden hits his fist on the desk. Why is he acting this way, just because he saw his employee with her boyfriend?

But, Evelyn is not an original employee. She is different from others. She is someone who manages to catch his interest. Now, he has gotten used to her that he can't bear seeing her with another guy, not even her man.

Or, does he like her? No, it can't be.

After Skylar broke his heart and betrayed him, all the ladies seemed like the same thing to him and none of them was able to make him interested. But, Evelyn manages to catch his fancy and intrigues him, to the extent that he even reads books just because of her.

Skylar was Jayden's first love. They started their relationship during his first year in college. He hadn't become friends with Joe then.

He later found out Skylar had been cheating on him with Joe. He and Joe broke up with her, but the pain remained in Jayden's heart.

Skylar is the first lady he had fallen for. She had almost the same qualities as Evelyn. She was beautiful, sassy, and smart. Sadly, she did the worst to him.

The sound of knocking on the door snaps him out of his train of thought.

"Who is that?"He asks the intruder.

"Evelyn Jones, sir."

He sighs."You can come in if you have something important to say."

Evelyn walks in, she bows her head a little."Good morning, sir. I am here to hand over the schedules for the day."She tells him.

"You can drop it on my desk."He orders.

She drops the files on the desk and walks out of his office.

Jayden notices the glow on her face. It is the first time he will see such a big smile on his face. Seems like she is really in love with her boyfriend. He silently wishes that her boyfriend won't break up or try any shît with her. He will break his big head if such happens.

His phone rings. He checks the caller's identification, it is Emily. He decides to answer her call and be blunt with her.

"You treated me badly, Jayden. You're a wicked human being."Emily sobs.

Her fake sobs will never work on him. He has gotten used to getting all those attitudes from the lady, but they don't move him.

"I didn't do anything wrong to you. About being a wicked human being, I thought you knew how evil I can be."He says, trying to scare her away with his scary words.

"You ordered your security guards to throw me out yesterday. That is not a fair way to treat your girlfriend."

"Here we go again!"He mutters under his breath.

"You are not my girlfriend, Emily. When did I ask you out?"

"You introduced me as your girlfriend to your employees, at the shopping mall. Why are you doing this to me, Jayden? Is it because I love you?"

"Bye Emily."Jayden hangs up the call instantly and drops his phone on the table.

A feeling of Deja Vu rushes through his mind, he feels paralyzed and his head begins banging so hard.

"Why are you doing this to me, Skylar? Is it because I love you? You are taking me for granted just because of the love I have for you. Stop doing this to me, Skylar."

It was in college. He recalled having said those words to Skylar when she just started her bad behavior.

Jayden was madly in love with Skylar. She is his first everything. His first love. His first kiss. The first lady he had ever slept with.

But, it is all gone.

"Why are you not coming anymore, Raymond?"Evelyn asks her boyfriend.

Raymond is the one who gave her a ride to the company today. He also promises to give her a ride home, when she is done with her work. Now, she is done with everything. She calls him just to hear that he won't be coming to pick her up anymore.

Getting a cab is not the main problem, since her car is at home. But, the thing is her cousin called her a few minutes ago. Skylar, the one who will be living with her for a while. She is in the mall, waiting for someone to pick her up.

Going by cab may be a bad idea, she wants to make a good impression.

"Get a cab, baby, or tell someone to give you a ride. I will make it up to you, Evie. "

"Don't call me 'Evie'."She snaps and ends the call.

An idea pops into her mind. She can try to convince her boss into giving her a ride to the mall.

She quickly rushes to his office, he hasn't gone home yet.

"What do you want, Evelyn?" He asks her when he enters his office.

"I need your help, Mr. Jayden." She utters, picking her words one after the other.

"What?"

"Can you please give me a ride to the mall? I need to pick someone there."

He gazes at her suspiciously."Can't you tell your boyfriend?"

She lifts her eyebrows. How does he know about her boyfriend? Maybe, he saw them together in the morning.

"My boyfriend is busy, Mr. Jayden."

"Am I the jobless one then?"He scoffs.

She frowns."This attitude of yours is bad. Help me if you want to do that."

"I can't get enough of your attitude."He comments."I will give you a ride wherever you're going. Just say "Please, Mr. Jayden."

Evelyn almost hits her palm on her forehead in frustration. Why is this man so filled with ego?

"Please, Mr. Jayden," She says.

He stands from his chair."Let's go and pick the person you want to meet."

He winks at her. Evelyn narrows her eyes in confusion, not knowing why he winked at her.
