Meeting someone new

1522 Words
The next few days were hectic for Mia. She had started work and had to learn how to pronounce all the Italian dishes and specialties on the menu. Which wasn't too hard , since she was French it was easy to catch on. School also started. Being late for her first lecture didn't help her image in their professor's eye and so he was quite tough on her. Drilling her on her psychology and physiology extra hard. She didn't really have a knack psychology and is barely taking anything in on it. Setting down her books on the dining table, she let out a heavy sigh and flopped down in one of the chairs. "I guess I shouldn't ask how your day was huh ?" Sophie's relaxed voice came from the big comfy sofa not far from her. Shaking her head Mia looked over at her friend with a weak smile and gave her quick nod. She had just come and it won't be long before she'll have to get ready for work. Looking over at her friend one last time , she snatched her books up again and headed to her room , leaving her friend alone once more. Looking towards Mia's door Sophie got an uneasy feeling in her stomach as usual, when she thought of why her friend was going through all this. If Jaun-Luc was really there in New York all this time, why had he not reached out to her. Did she really mean so little to him? She thought again as she sank her head to her knees , letting out another depressed sigh , which felt like the millionth time in the last hour. With her hair tied up in a ponytail and her uniform on , Mia came from her room in a haste not even noticing her friend's bad mood. She went straight to the kitchen to crab a cup of coffee , before she'd have to head to work. Coffee in hand she headed to the door to ready her bag and check she had everything she might need. Taking her last sip of coffee Mia sat down her bag all ready and set. She had always been one to prepare for anything and it's become a kind of ritual. Pepper spray, wallet , cellphone charger, cellphone, pocketbook, pen , etc , check. Heading to the door Mia turned to give greetings, when she noticed Sophie's down mood and stopped in her tracks. Dropping everything she went to sit with her friend. She still had sometime before work she was usually a half our early so she had time for her friend." Something's the matter with you and you're going to tell me what." Mia commanded.Sounding a lot like Emma, surprising herself with her tone of voice.Knowing Sophie she would not reprimand her for it and might just be more likely to respond to a command than a question. Sophie was a very modest and shy person, not one to talk about feeling and situations. Always avoiding conflict unlike Emma , who if they were honest with themselves was the leader of their pack. Sophie was the shy and down to earth country girl, who would not want to burden her friends with her troubles. She would always be there for them and listen , but never let them carry her problems with along with her , she was to selfless to do that. The only time when she would share something is when they give her no choice. Usually it's Emma being commanding and Mia being soft and gentle that did the trick . But Emma was most likely out shopping and Mia was going to be late if she had to wait for her. So she would have play Emma's part while being as gentle as possible. " What's nagging you? I see how depressed you've been and really want to know why?" Mia asked more softly, thinking back to the other night when Sophie was so deep in thought. Looking at her friend now Mia noticed she had the same facial expression as then. It looked as if there was no more hope there, no more excitement and twinkle in her eyes as there always were before. Sophie had always been the romantic one out of the three of them. She believed that there was good in the world and had not given up hope on it. Everything happened for a reason she would always say. Because of this she was one of the happiest people Mia knew. Sophie also believed that one smile from her could brighten someone else's day, therefore she always wore a smile. That fact of Sophie alone is the sole reason why it's so worrying seeing her friend like she has been lately. " Is it because of me , are you upset with me about something? Are you not happy with me being in New York?" Mia queried when she realized that Sophie's mood began about a month ago when she got here. Sophie who had not yet answered any of her friend's questions startled at the last ones. She had not wanted to bother her friends with her worries. "Why would I be upset with you? You are my best friend and so glad to finally have you so close." She answered Mia reassuringly. No was not upset with her friend. She was upset with herself and more importantly with Jaun- Luc. Upset with herself for still worrying and praying for him after so many years. With for disappearing like he did without a single word or thought. She was tired of wondering where he might be and if he was even thinking about the life he had left behind , the people he left behind. "It's just that..."Sophie started but trialled of when she looked in Mia's eyes. She couldn't burden her friend with this. She had too much on her plate as it was. "What?" Mia asked with eyes a mixture of worry and pleading. Sophie sighed. She knew Mia will never let this pass. She had to tell her friend otherwise she'd be ambushed later on by Emma as well and that girl would not let her at ease. Taking a deep breath she started to tell Mia about what has been on her mind of late. Slowly she told her how mad she was at him and how much she missed him. Mia being his sister knew how Sophie felt and understood. She had been feeling the same when she found that her brother had run to America without even as much as a bye or sorry. She would never understand why he had run like he did , but she was sure he had done it out of his freewill. "This is all my fault ! I should never have told you about what I found in Paris. If hadn't told you, this would not have been a problem. Now his on your mind again." Mia moaned. Rolling her eyes Sophie said something she hadn't told anyone before "I've never stopped." At that Mia choked, she underestimated Sophie's love for Jaun-Luc. She knew Sophie loved her brother , but hadn't thought that she would still care for him after the stunt he pulled. Mia knew her brother had loved Sophie before he'd disappeared and knew he must still in someway care for her after all these years. But could not help herself saying. "He's the most self absorbed jerk I know! For hurting you like this I loathe him, does he not care about how we feel." She sheathed. "You know what you need? You need to meet someone new! Make him regret ever using your love as he has." She declared spitefuly. She it was wrong of her to speak so harshly about him , but at that moment she let her rage at what he did get the best of her. Sophie was stunned at Mia's words. She a sudden urge to defend Jaun-Luc to his sister. How could she suggests she find someone new. Jaun-Luc with his flaws had really cared for her she was sure of it . He might not have loved her as she had once believed he did , but he must have cared. Meeting someone new wasn't going to stop her love for him and Mia's harsh words wouldn't either. She shot her friend a glare and stood, she wasn't having this fight now, she thought. She was too tired and won't waste her time on someone who was supposed to understand how it felt , to want to ask him why. Looking at her friend head to her room, Mia sighed and sagged her head. She was wrong and harsh to have said that. Jaun-Luc would be hurt if he had heard her that. She was a horrible sister and friend, how could she be so selfish and let her anger get the best of her. She missed him, he was the reason she was here in New York and she will find him and bring him back.
