“Warning: Third count of verbal a***e. Initiating random Lightning Punishment!”
No sooner had the system spoken than a powerful electric current surged through Su Ping’s body. He convulsed on the spot, dancing like a zombie at a disco.
The current came and went quickly. Su Ping felt a searing ache all over and wanted to curse, but forced himself to hold back. A wise man doesn’t fight when the odds are against him.
“Fine, I’ll try the mission first. If I fail, it’s the system’s fault for being garbage!” Su Ping gritted his teeth.
Stiff and sore, he walked into the pet room at the back of the shop.
Upon entering, he noticed the space felt much more spacious. The area was the same, but over twenty empty iron cages had vanished, replaced by two stone enclosures.
They weren’t cages so much as strange stone formations.
Several stone spikes jutted from the ground, encircling two Star Pets. The gaps between spikes were wide, and there was no roof—any Star Pet could easily leap out or squeeze through.
Yet both pets lay quietly inside, showing no desire to escape.
Su Ping raised an eyebrow. This was clearly the system’s doing. The “Pet Slots” it mentioned must be these.
He glanced at the two pets in the formations—both common low‑rank battle pets.
One was a Thunder Rat, a low‑level agile battle pet. At adulthood, it only reached Mid Rank 1, with an extremely low evolution rate. Even if it evolved into a Sky Thunder Rat, it would only reach Rank 3, its absolute upper limit.
The other was a Moonchaser Hound, another low‑level agile battle pet. At adulthood, it reached High Rank 1, roughly equivalent to a Siberian tiger on Earth.
Su Ping vaguely remembered both Star Pets were left at the shop for foster care and would be claimed within a couple of days.
“I’ll choose the Thunder Rat,” he decided.
Picking the weaker one left more room for growth.
“Pet selected. Please draw a breeding plane,” the system’s voice sounded.
A faint white light suddenly appeared before Su Ping, tearing open a vertical, pupil‑like spatial rift filled with twisted, destructive energy.
Su Ping started. Only after confirming it posed no danger did he ask, “What’s a breeding plane?”
“A breeding plane is the main venue for nurturing pets. The host may select a suitable venue for the pet’s type.”
“Breeding venue?”
Su Ping recalled his basic knowledge of nurturing. Star Pet care relied heavily on venues. Most large Star Pet shops rented huge spaces to build professional breeding grounds—essentially private hunting arenas.
Bigger chain shops offered such facilities for comprehensive service.
Only tiny shops like Su Ping’s simply fed and cleaned customers’ pets.
“Scanning pet: Thunder Rat, Lightning‑type. Automatically matching optimal breeding plane: Ancient Thunder Cloud Sea Realm. Enter?”
Su Ping blinked, dazed. “Enter… I guess.”
As soon as he spoke, the name felt familiar.
Star Pets came from various origins—most from spatial rifts, monster planets in the starry sky, or ancient planets.
The Thunder Cloud Sea Realm was said to be a shattered, long‑lost birthplace of ancient Lightning‑type Star Pets.
Many legendary top‑tier Lightning‑type pets—Abyssal Thunder Dragon, Nine‑Headed Thunder Emperor, Cosmic Spirit Beast—were said to originate there. When the Thunder Cloud Sea shattered, those supreme pets faded into myth, rarely seen.
Could this be the lost ancient land he was about to enter?
Before Su Ping could react, a powerful pull dragged him toward the glowing white rift.
His vision spun.
Then everything went black.
When sight returned, he saw hazy white mist and heard the low rumble of thunder.
Su Ping stared blankly, then was stunned by the sight before him.
This was the lost ancient land?
All around was vast wilderness, surrounded by giant trees. Dozens of meters above the treetops, clouds swirled, crackling with purple lightning. It looked as if flood dragons coiled within the mist.
Where the clouds thinned, the vast starry sky stretched out. Massive planets, near and far, hung visible to the n***d eye, so close he could clearly see their rings and craters.
