Chapter 1: Star Pet World(Part 3)

808 Words
Looking back on the original’s eighteen years of life, Su Ping sighed. The guy had accomplished nothing, and even managed to offend his only useful family member. As a child, he’d been mischievous and tormented his little sister terribly — putting caterpillars in her lunch box, sneaking over at night disguised as a ghost to scare her. He’d practically given her childhood trauma. Now the tables had turned. His once-weak little sister had become his nightmare as an adult. Su Ping decided he needed to find a chance to make peace with his overpowered sister. Otherwise, after a few more weird scares, he’d either develop trauma or go insane from nerves. After tidying up a little, Su Ping put on his slippers and went downstairs. “What took you so long? The porridge is getting cold. Come eat quickly,” his mother Li Qingru said gently. She looked to be in her forties, quiet and kind. At the dining table, Su Lingyue was already eating. She’d even placed the Flame Phantom named Snowball on the chair beside her — Su Ping’s chair. Su Ping’s mouth twitched. Even breakfast was full of malice… “I’m here,” he said. He dragged another chair over from the living room and sat down. Looking at the steaming white porridge, meat pies, and soybean milk on the table, he realized he was actually quite hungry. Su Lingyue raised an eyebrow and glanced at Su Ping. She’d deliberately taken his seat with Snowball to provoke him, hoping he’d lose his temper, yell, and get scolded by Mom. But surprisingly, he’d just let it go? Weird. Su Lingyue’s eyes narrowed slightly, growing wary. Was he acting unusually calm because he was plotting something again? “Mom, I’m finished. I’m heading to the academy,” she said, frustrated that her plan had failed. She quickly finished her food. Li Qingru saw she was leaving and hurriedly said, “Xiaoyue, wait a moment.” “Huh?” Su Lingyue turned. “Your brother’s shop hasn’t been doing well lately. There are hardly any customers. Why don’t you leave Snowball at his shop for a while to help attract people?” Li Qingru asked tentatively. Su Lingyue froze, then rolled her eyes and glanced at Su Ping, who was shoveling porridge into his mouth. “Mom, ever since you gave him the shop, business has gotten worse and worse. You know why! It’s because he’s lazy and irresponsible. Remember when he almost got reported to the Star Pet Association? Someone brought a Message Bird for him to take care of. After less than a week, when they came to pick it up, the bird was yelling swear words at everyone. It got beaten to death not long after, and the case is still unsolved! You want to leave my Snowball with someone who can’t even take care of a Message Bird? This is a high-class Star Pet that can potentially reach Level 8. If you’re okay with that, I don’t care. You bought Snowball anyway.” Li Qingru opened her mouth, but no words came out. She could only sigh. If her health hadn’t gotten so bad that she needed to rest, she never would have let Su Ping take over the shop so early. Su Ping felt Su Lingyue’s hostile glare but said nothing, continuing to eat his porridge quietly. “Hmph!” Su Lingyue huffed, seeing that he knew better than to talk back. She picked up Snowball, who was still gnawing on a bone, and went back to her room to change and leave. A moment later, Su Ping finished breakfast too. As usual, after listening to Li Qingru’s reminders, he rode his bicycle to the shop. It was a Star Pet shop. Su Ping was a half-baked Star Pet Breeder. Officially, he was a breeder, but in reality, he just did odd jobs for Star Pets. After all, real master breeders could alter a Star Pet’s potential and rank. Their status was no lower than Star Pet Warriors — sometimes even higher! Along the way, Su Ping saw tall buildings just like on Earth. The only difference was that most passersby were accompanied by strange-looking Star Pets. “It really is another world…” Su Ping murmured. Everything felt like a dream, but it was real. He soon arrived at his family’s Star Pet shop. It was located at the end of a commercial street, a fairly remote spot. Still, business had been good before. Li Qingru was a certified Federal Star Pet Breeder — only a junior breeder, but more than qualified to run a small pet shop. She’d had many regular customers. But once the shop fell into Su Ping’s hands, things went downhill fast. Could anyone really expect someone who hated Star Pets to take good care of them? Rattle!
