CHAPTER 42 – TOM
CHICAGO“Your move,” he said, looking in Kyle’s direction, but really not looking at him at all. A week had passed and they had decided to resume playing, partly in Dustin’s honour, and partly to distract themselves from the problems that lay heavy on their tired minds. Kyle’s wife, a seemingly healthy middle aged woman, had experienced a seizure the previous Monday and had spent two nights in hospital. Her condition had stabilised, but doctors were still unsure of what had caused it in the first place. Kyle was fretting about his wife and grieving for Dustin, and Tom was grieving on two accounts – for his friend, of course, but also for his own family.
The past week had seemed longer to him than entire years of his life, and he had experienced a vast spectrum of emotions
