SHE WAS KILLED

★★ Alessia’s POV ★★ Lunch break. I walked out of class with my head down, hoping to vanish into thin air. No such luck. The stares were worse now. And the whispers were louder. --- “Did you see the way she looked at Ryder?” “She’s trying to steal attention.” “Maybe if I married a mafia heir, I’d sit pretty too.” “I bet she doesn’t even love him.” “Pfft. She’s just a placeholder until Lucien gets bored.” --- Every word stabbed like a knife. I didn’t reply. I didn’t react. I just kept walking. Behind me, I heard footsteps… heels clicking fast. Then a girl stepped in front of me, blocking my path. She was tall, curvy, and overconfident. Red lipstick. Tight dress. One of those girls who looked like she belonged in Lucien’s world. “Hey, mafia Barbie,” she sneered. I stopped. “Excuse me?” She smirked. “Don’t act innocent. We all know who you are. Lucien’s little charity case.” “I don’t want trouble,” I muttered. “Then go back to where you came from. Some of us actually belong in this circle.” Before I could reply, I heard the sound of tires. --- Lucien’s black car pulled up. He stepped out like a god of war — dressed in all black, sunglasses on, jaw clenched. The second the girl saw him, her entire attitude changed. She tossed her hair and smiled sweetly. “Lucien!” she called out, flipping her hair again like she was in a movie. I froze. Was she seriously trying to flirt… in front of me?! She ran toward him in her heels, swinging her hips. “Lucien, it’s been so long! I was just telling your wife how beautiful she looks.” Lies. Lucien didn’t stop walking. He didn’t smile. He didn’t look impressed. He walked straight past her—then stopped suddenly. Slowly… he turned his head. “You touched her?” he asked, voice low and terrifying. The girl blinked. “I-I was just saying hi…” Lucien tilted his head. Then, without warning, he yanked off his sunglasses and threw them to Razor. He stepped right in front of her. She tried to play cute again. “I just thought maybe we could—” SLAM. Lucien’s hand hit the wall beside her face. Everyone gasped. “You think you can speak to my wife?” he growled. “I—” “Look at me again,” he said coldly, “and I’ll rip your tongue out in front of your father.” The girl froze, her lips trembling. “You think this is a f**king joke?” Lucien spat. “This isn’t a soap opera, sweetheart. This is the mafia. Try me again and your body will be found in a river.” The hallway went dead silent. Even I couldn’t breathe. Lucien stepped back slowly and walked over to me like nothing happened. “Get in,” he said. I climbed into the car without a word. My heart was racing. --- Inside the car “You didn’t have to go that far,” I whispered after a while. Lucien looked at me. “She touched you.” “So?” “She disrespected what’s mine.” I looked away, swallowing. “You don’t own me.” Lucien smirked. “I own everything I protect.” --- Back at the estate, I walked to my room and found something on my desk. A folded paper. I opened it slowly. “Stay in your lane, Alessia. Or you’ll end up just like her.” No name. No handwriting. No clue. My hands shook as I read it again. Who was her ? What does that mean? Was someone watching me? I looked toward the window. Shadows. Curtains. Silence. A storm was coming. And I was in the center of it. The note haunted me all night. What happened to her? I barely slept. I kept hearing voices in my head. Was she someone before me? A lover? A wife? A victim? I needed to know. --- The next morning, Lucien was gone. His side of the bed was cold. The smell of smoke lingered in the air. I stepped out of the room and walked through the long hallway of the mansion. It was quiet — too quiet. Everywhere I turned, someone was watching me. The maids. The guards. Even the walls. It felt like this house had secrets buried in its floors. And I was walking over graves. --- ★ Later That Morning — The Study Room ★ I snuck into Lucien’s private study while he was away. Razor and the others were downstairs in the training room. I wasn’t stupid — I knew I had to be quick. Books. Guns. Papers. Locked drawers. I opened the cabinet near his desk. Inside was a black binder marked "Confidential – Family." I grabbed it. My hands were shaking as I flipped through the pages. --- Then I saw her. A photo. A girl — pretty. Red hair. Blue eyes. Smiling in front of a piano. Underneath the photo: Isabella Renée | Deceased My breath caught in my throat. There were no details. No death date. No cause. Just a second file marked: “Engagement – Terminated.” I kept flipping. Then I found the last line. Status: Covered Covered? What the hell does that mean? --- Before I could process it, I heard the door creak. I turned around. Lucien. Standing in the doorway. Watching me. My heart dropped. --- He didn’t say a word. He walked over, grabbed the folder from my hand, and closed it without blinking. I backed up a step. “You shouldn’t have touched that,” he said, voice low. “I—I just…” “Say it,” he growled. “I found the note. About her. I wanted to know who she was.” Lucien’s eyes darkened. His jaw clenched. “I told them to burn that file.” He grabbed my chin, not hard, but enough to hold me still. “Let me make this clear,” he said through clenched teeth. “You ever dig into my past again… I’ll bury you in it.” Tears stung my eyes. “I just wanted to know the truth.” “You can’t handle the truth, Alessia.” “Who was she, Lucien?” I asked, voice cracking. “What happened to her?” He let go of my chin and stepped back, breathing hard. “She was weak,” he said coldly. “And in this house, weakness dies.” --- ★ Lucien’s POV ★ She was supposed to obey. To stay quiet. To survive. But instead… she poked the wound I buried years ago. Isabella. The girl with the music. The smile. The laugh I used to hear in my dreams. She got too close. To me. To the truth. And she paid for it. I won’t let that happen again. --- Alessia’s POV ★ He walked out without another word. But I didn’t move. Because I knew it now. This house wasn’t just a prison. It was a graveyard. And I might be next.
