Chapter 26Proktor put his hands to his temples and massaged them gently. Lying back on his bunk, he closed his eyes and felt the stress relievers gently seeking out tense and tired muscles. Within minutes he felt completely relaxed and, opening his eyes, he looked around at the temporary quarters he had chosen for his stay on the Rithid. The ship as a whole felt very strange. Occupied only by its skeleton crew it was so empty. Even the presence of all the Council members seemed to add nothing to it. He found himself wondering if the spirits of those who had died on the journey wandered here, walking through the miles of echoing corridors, still travelling in hope.
