Taithur’s firm treatment of this problem was debated and discussed hotly throughout the community, but caused little real divisiveness. Such resentment as there was, was over the use made of the individual work audits, but this was offset by Taithur’s openness and by the implications of the particular audits examined. Freedom of expression was one thing, but not pulling your weight was another when everyone was in the same boat. On balance, his action improved the unity of the community because it served to remind everyone of the reality of their position.
