It was already very late by the time Laura finally wrapped up for the day. I’d just finished running through some statistics in her office when the lights suddenly went out.
Darkness swallowed the entire building and the sudden silence and the flickering lights below the floor to ceiling window made me frown deeply.
“Mr. Morrison.”
Laura’s office door creaked open after a brief knock. Mr. Kim appeared and his face was pale against the dim emergency glow.
“What happened to the power?” I asked, my voice sharp as I moved toward the window.
"There was a power surge. It took out the whole building,” he replied, his tone low and unsettling.
Laura was still in the conference room and the company was nearly deserted at this hour, with most of the employees gone already.
