That night, my eldest brother, Damian who was never at home finally came around. Although we weren't close, he still doted on me like the little princess of the house.
Arthur didn't return home so it was just the four of us at the dinner table later that night.
We usually had nights like this, especially since my Mom passed away 8 years ago and we were used to being there for each other.
Dinner was as mouthwatering as I remembered and we all laughed at my experiences in the past two years as well as the jokes Lincoln cracked.
By 8 p.m, Damian left to handle urgent pack matters. He had always been the responsible one easing our father's burdens while Lincoln played the part of the mischievous son. He avoided anything stressful but skillfully ran the fashion companies under the Blackwood name.
After dinner, I went to my room and felt a wave of comfort seeing everything just as I’d left it. The familiar sight of my neatly made bed, the spotless space, and the old poster of my GLAM crush, a star under Lincoln's company brought back memories.
I went to my closet, grabbed my nightwear, and headed into the bathroom. The warm shower helped clear my mind a little. After an hour, I stepped out, dried my hair, and changed into what I’d laid out.
It was just past nine when I opened the document Dad had given me earlier. It took a while before I got familiar with the stats and the basics of the company.
I sifted through profit margins, inflows, and capital expenditures, and I was impressed by how much revenue one branch was generating monthly. Blackwood truly deserved its reputation in the North.
However, a few minutes into my review, I noticed some irregularities - many suspicious withdrawals from the reserve for projects and worse still, they didn't add up with the capital for the said projects.
It was then that the realization dawned on me - the CEO had passed away from illness a few months back, and before that, most of the company’s matters were handled by the vice president. Of course it was Mandy Rivers.
It turned out she'd been laundering money from my father's company. No wonder she could afford that white Bugatti, right after buying a Lamborghini, all within the same year. I used to wonder what kind of company paid a vice president that much, but now it was crystal clear. She’d been signing her own paychecks.
She never stopped rambling about how she’d soon be CEO, completely unaware that the company she was drooling over belonged to my father. And now, the position she craved so desperately? It belonged to me.
I proceeded to check out the lists of the fifteen companies vying for the five billion dollar investment I was to handle in a week's time. Each of the companies had an impressive record and I knew that I would have to critically evaluate their proposals before I could make a decision at the board meeting.
I skimmed through their impressive records, ready to begin until the name at the bottom caught my attention.
“SKY TECH MEDIA; CEO: Kyle Morrison.”
I didn't need any more evidence before I understood what was going on. Mandy must have used her position to channel money into my ex-husband, Kyle Morrison's company. I chuckled to myself before closing the file. That was all I needed to know for that night.

The day for the board meeting came very quickly. That morning, I rose early to prepare. Over the past week, I’d done thorough research on every CEO who would be present, digging deep into their achievements and analyzing their business proposals . They were all very promising in their business proposal but further research made me more critical in my evaluation.
I got ready quickly and after making sure all the documents were intact, I came downstairs and met my dad having breakfast.
“Good morning, Dad.” I kissed his cheek and casually stole a piece of toast from his plate.
“Morning, sweetie.” He smiled, sipping his coffee. “All set?”
“Yes, Dad. I’m heading out now.” I smiled.
“Don’t forget to eat, and don’t push yourself too hard. Just remember who you are,” he said, his gaze steady and assuring.
I nodded, downing the glass of juice the butler handed me.
“Love you, Dad.” With a quick kiss to his cheek, I made my way outside, where the car was already waiting.
"Good morning miss."
"Morning Josh." Josh was the driver assigned to me and he’d driven me everywhere, from the company headquarters to various inspection sites over the past few days.
We arrived at the office at 7:45a.m and my assistant, Amber was already waiting at the side entrance. She was a young lady in her early twenties and over the past few days she had shown a high level of efficiency in handling tasks.
The meeting was set to begin by 9 a.m. sharp and I could see the lobby busier than usual as some unfamiliar faces walked by once in a while.
I was dressed in a moderate black pant suit and a corporate black shirt to pair. My hair was packed in a ponytail and I wore very light make-up. It was a business meeting and I had to look like the CEO I was.
"Laura?"
A voice I'd heard one too many times brought me to a stop and I spun around.
There he was. Kyle Morrison. The man I was married to barely a week ago. He was dressed in an ink black business suit and his face was as stunning as I could remember. Mandy was beside him, clad in a high slit body hugging gown and with her cleavage on full display.
"It's really you!" She chuckled as she stepped closer.
Kyle was silent as she approached me but I could feel the weight of his gaze all over me.
“What brings you to my company, Laura?” Mandy sneered. “It's barely a week and you're already running around, looking for ladders to climb?”
Her words made my blood begin to boil. What gave her the audacity to claim something that didn’t belong to her?
I scoffed, still maintaining my calm expression.
"What do you mean, Mandy?" I asked, my eyes fixed on her.
Amber who was besides me tried to speak up but I glared hard at her, shutting her up immediately.
“Who the f**k let you in here?” she barked, and turned her attention to Amber. “Do you just let anyone walk in?”
I smiled faintly, amused at the drama about to unfold.
“You shouldn’t be here, Laura," Kyle grunted. "Leave."
Mandy, emboldened by his words, marched up to me and grabbed my wrist.
“Let go!" I snapped in anger.
I never planned to cause a scene, but clearly, I’d overestimated her maturity.
I yanked my hand free, and in doing so, Mandy lost her balance, staggering into Kyle’s arms.
“How dare you!” she shrieked.
She lunged at me, raising her hand to strike. Amber stepped forward instinctively, ready to intervene but someone else moved faster.
A strong hand caught Mandy’s wrist mid-air and shoved her back. This time, she lost her footing completely and collapsed onto the floor.
I stood frozen, stunned by the man now standing beside me.
I glanced back at Kyle who was still rooted to the same spot and then back at the stranger beside me.
The face was too alike. The nose, the lips, eyebrows, the brown hair, but sky blue orbs instead of the brown I was familiar with.
Kyle had a twin brother!
"You clearly don't know how to treat a woman," He growled beside me.
"Kaden," Kyle snapped and spun around to meet Mandy's gaze. "You said his proposal was deleted. What the f**k is he doing here?"
I watched, my mouth wide open in shock as the realization slowly dawned on me. I was not going to be dealing with just one Morrison today. I was going to be dealing with two - my golddigger ex-husband and his very much attractive twin brother!
