I was still fuming in my room when the summons came. I’d snapped at Auroreis, ordering her from the room with no explanation. She’d looked crushed, and part of me had enjoyed that. At least someone had to listen to me. But mostly, it just made me feel worse. I had started running a bath when I heard a knock at my door.
“Enter,” I called, expecting it to be one or both of my parents. Growing up, my mother and I had never been able to stay mad at each other for long. Whenever she had sent me to my room, she’d usually come in soon after to give me a hug and apologize, and then we’d work everything out with chocolate and a chick flick.
