-19- Autumn and Chrissy found a parking spot in front of Elegant Nails. The busy salon was in a converted townhouse on Acorn Lane, a side street off Main in downtown Knollwood. The powerful odor of acetone and nail polish overwhelmed the senses, and Chrissy sneezed and turned a glistening nose up to look at Autumn. “We won’t be long.” Chrissy’ tail gave a surrender-flag wave. Customers occupied every station with nail techs bent over the hands or feet of clients. Gray walls set off the black chairs and furnishings. Red shelving provided a pop of color to the bleak color scheme. “May I help you?” The girl behind the desk tried to hold a pen without ruining the wet hot pink polish on her extra-long sculpted nails. Short, spiked hair in lavender and pink topped off her creative style.
