Twilight settled over the peaceful neighborhood as Autumn and Chrissy strolled down the sidewalk.
“Did you have fun with Teddy today?”
Chrissy looked at Autumn and wagged her tail.
“What a wonderful hostess you are.”
Chrissy smiled up at her. There was no mistaking it this time. Autumn had grown used to Chrissy’s expressions and accepted them as true. Chrissy let out her shrieking bark. The white mass up ahead proved to be Mickey accompanied by Steve.
“Ahoy there matey!” called Autumn.
“Ahoy!” shouted Steve.
Chrissy started straining at the leash, encouraging Autumn forward. They behaved as though it had been years instead of days since they had seen each other. Autumn wondered at a dog’s sense of time.
“We’re going for a quick one tonight. My daughter is here.”
