Ray got out of his unmarked vehicle and attached Ace’s leash before leading him out of the hatch. His mind turned to Autumn and her persistence. Her perspective made him want to push Vaughn a little harder. He smiled, thinking of how she became a little shy around him. The trait endeared her to him.
He pushed open the office door. Fran and Lisa looked up from their computers.
“Hi, Detective. How can we help you?” said Fran.
Ray detected a note of annoyance in Fran’s tone.
“I’m here to see Mr. Evans. Is he available?”
Fran picked up the phone and dialed Vaughn’s extension.
“Detective Reed is here, Vaughn.” She nodded and hung up.
“You can go right in.” She pointed to the hallway.
