The Unicorn

They had set up on one of the floors that was missing a section of wall. The wave of darkness that swept across the city seemed to embolden beasts and monsters alike. Quincey saw flashes of bright lights shoot across the sky and loud booms. Shadows illuminated by the lights attacked each other. Quincey saw off in the distance two giants meet in a field. One threw a tree at the other in retaliation he was charged and knocked to the ground creating a large boom like thunder. One thing that caught Quincey’s attention was a light running through the street; it was heading to the building they were in and fast. As it got closer and closer Quincey could make out more and more of what seemed to be a horned horse, “Unicorn?” Quincey remarked out loud. Quincey began to descend the highrise running down every staircase, when he reached the last of the flights of stairs he jumped down it ramming into the wall at the bottom. Crashing through the wall he stumbled forward and quickly looked around for the light he saw earlier. He ran towards where he last saw it praying to himself he wasn't too late. He turned a corner and stopped short; laying in the middle of the road was a dim and fading light. Crouched over the unicorn were four slender and furry humanoids. Quincey overcomes with rage, screamed, and ran forward. One of the monsters stood up and turned to look at what caused the noise. Quincey now got a good look at the monster. It had two long canines currently dripping blood; it had long ears, eyes that were primal and savage. Quincey rammed into it, taking it to the ground before the other monsters could react. Quincey was on top of it now; he unleashed a flurry of punches onto the monster's face caving it in. The only reason he stopped was that one of them came up behind him slashing his arm with claws he didn't know they had. He quickly jumped up and made some distance between them. His arm now dripping blood; he winced as he followed it with his hand searing the wound shut. He was now faced with three of them, "Wendigos?" Quincey locked eyes with one who had claws protruding out from his knuckles dripping with blood also. That wendigo ran forward towards Quincey lunging forward at Quincey. Moving out of the way just before it hit; the wendigo took another swing at Quincey. This time Quincey grabbed the wrist of the wendigo and twisted the arm back towards its skull impaling the wendigo on its claws. Quincey let the body drop to the floor and then looked at the two remaining wendigos. In a flash one of them fell; a light emanating from the monster's face. A dagger made of light had pierced its skull, causing it to fall straight on its back. Quincey rushed the last one knocking it to the ground and pounding on its face with his fist, "Why?! Why do you have to ruin everything?!" Quincey stopped when he heard a soft whinny from the unicorn's direction. He got up, his hands drenched in blood, and walked towards it. He bent down towards the horse and petted it with one hand, "shhh, it is okay." The unicorn tensed up when it felt something touch it. Its stomach was ripped open and its legs had several chunks of flesh missing one was broken. Quincey petted it with one hand as he unsheathed a dagger, "It is okay." He took out a dagger and stabbed the unicorn through the head killing it instantly. Quincey got back up and screamed as a bolt of thunder streaked across the sky. Quincey made his way back to the high rise and their camp. When he made it back Quinn tackled him with a hug, "Where did you go? I was just about to go looking for you." She was in full kit with her glave on her back and armor on. Quincey shook his head, "Thought I saw someone. Turns out it was just shadows." Quinn looked at his hands, "Shadows that bleed? What did you kill?" Quincey who had forgotten about the now dried blood on his hands looked at them, "Oh, I forgot about that. I went for a walk around the building and found some hiding," He walked past her and laid down, "Mind if I sleep for whatever time we have left?" "Sure I don't see why not." Before Quinn finished Quincey was already snoring.
