POV Tessa
I have yet to go back to the bar to talk to Jackson about what happened the other night. His brown mocha eyes are what I see every time I close them. I am not really sure why, but I do know I need to talk to him and probably clear the air. After all, he did think I was human. Oooopies. I think I’ll head over to his bar later today.
This morning I want to meditate and work on building the obstacle course more. I am now able to stay in my half-done house. All the exterior walls are up and the interior framing is complete for the bathroom and three bedrooms. The rest is an open concept format. The electrician was here yesterday to finish the wiring and I have the plumber to wrap up his tasks in a few days. The vision is finally coming together. The house should be completely done in about three months.I can’t wait.
Right now I just have a cot set up in one of the framed rooms, better than a tent. I even have the roof almost done, the plywood is laid and prepped. The shingles will go on next week. I tried to get the bathroom done first, which I made sure the plumber was aware of so he could make it a priority. I have all the bathroom tiles picked out and the fixtures are all sitting in the future living room. It isn’t an overly large bathroom but enough room to accommodate a vanity with two sinks and a walk-in shower. I am just eager to use a normal toilet soon.
I finished a bowl of cereal since I don’t have too many options for hot food yet. I finished getting dressed in black spandex leggings and an old t-shirt with a dinosaur on it. I like to be comfortable while meditating. I took off at a light jog to head to the clearing where we stopped on the run with my family. Flowers started sprouting not too long ago there and the field is full of them. Lots of violets of all colors, lupines, daisies, and even some beautiful lady’s slippers. I stop jogging when I approach the field, I slowly walk to the center, stopping to pick a few lupines to take back to the house later. I have a reusable can that I can display next to my cot. They are such a pretty flower to pass up the opportunity to wake up to them every day.
I make myself comfortable in a sitting position and cross my legs. I rest my hands on either side and take a few deep breaths, slowly exhaling, trying to find a sense of inner peace. I take a few more deep breaths and can really start to focus on my surroundings. I hear crickets, and the buzzing of bees collecting pollen. I hear two butterflies chasing each other around a cluster of flowers. The sun is high in the sky and it illuminates my whole face. I tilt my head back, enjoying the feel of its warmth on my skin. I love these types of days, stress free. No worries or paranoia about being found out by the pack. As I relax further into a peaceful state, I think I might have doused off. I open my eyes and find the sun is not as bright, but the field and the area look a little different than before. There is this light golden haze floating around the field. It is transparent in nature, but the color is still obvious.
I started to hear a light humming that sounded very melodious. I turn in the direction of the sound and see a woman sitting around a bunch of daisies and she is weaving a flower crown.
“Hello. Excuse me, who are you?” She smiles at me but just continues to hum while still weaving the delicate flowers together. I stare at her perplexed. Am I dreaming?
She is now slowly rocking back and forth to her own melody, “It’s Beethoven’s 5 Secrets, Isn’t it beautiful?” she asked me.
“Ahh, yes it was. I’m sorry, but what are you doing and where did you come from? Are you lost?
She chuckles, she sets the flowers down in front of her and stands up. Her white dress falls down straightening out on the ground. It is of silky material with delicate gold intricacies sewn into the bodice. It is an exceptionally beautiful dress for a woman that seems lost. She brushes off imaginary dust or grass from her legs and walks over to me, her platinum blonde hair is braided all the way down her back.
“I have never lost a child. I always know where I am.” She smiles. Child? She only looks a few years older than me. I am slightly dazed at what is happening. She reaches for my hand and cups it between both her hands.
“Tessa, I always know where I am, everywhere I go I have a purpose.”
“How do you know my name? Do I know you?”
“You should, I am Celeste.” My mouth drops open. “What? How? Your the Moon Goddess?”
She chuckles again at my child-like questions, I suppose.
“Sshh child, let's sit down, over here there is a lot to talk about. You need guidance, right now. There is a lot in store for you and you had a rocky and unexpected beginning. We sat facing each other.
“It is so good to see you in person, you are looking well,” she says.
I blushed at her compliment. “Thank you.”
“I know you haven’t had luck finding out anymore details about what you are or even where you come from. I do believe now is the time to reveal some information to you.”
“Okay. What am I?”
“You, my child, are so special. I blessed your family with a gift many moons ago. You come from a talented family of summoners. Your birth family for generations had the ability to summon wolf spirits.”
“Huh? What is a wolf spirit?”
Celeste waved her hand around in the air, interacting with the golden fog that had been floating around. The fog slowly started to form. After a few seconds, it was in the shape of a large wolf. “This is a wolf spirit. You can summon and control your ancestors who have passed. It is like having a key to the other side. You see, werewolves don’t have a heaven or earth, they come to me and live in their wolf form on the other side. You come from a powerful line of werewolves and you, my child, have the gift to summon those family members. When you summon their spirit, it gives you strength, power, and wisdom. The energy of a summoner is always in you, it can never be taken away from you, only in death.”
“Wow, that is amazing. Is that why I have golden eyes when I shift into my wolf?”
“Yes, energy is always in you and even stronger when you are a wolf. I am sure you have noticed other abilities you might have, like super strength, your speed, quick healing abilities, exceptional sight and keen hearing. All superior to that of a normal wolf or even a regular Alpha. You, my child, are an Alpha. Your parents were both Alphas.”
“You knew my parents?” The mere mention of my birth parents gets me emotional. I have some memories of them but not a lot. I was so young when they all tragically passed away.
“I know all of my children, but your parents were also strong summoners and used their gifts for lots of good. I did pay them a visit a time or two before their untimely departure from this world. You know, you do have the ability to summon their spirits?”
“No, I didn’t. Can I talk to them?”
“Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. You can gain their power, even access some of their memories, but a wolf spirit cannot speak. Spirits, however, can give you feelings and urges. They can guide you during certain times-like a strong instinct. The more you practice, the more you will understand. You need to work on focusing your energy. You can form energy into shapes like this wolf or you can call it into yourself to use. Keep in mind, you might control the spirit, but the spirit is there because it wants to be. It will never do anything that it doesn’t want to do, it can’t be used with bad intentions.”
“Wow, that's a lot to take in. What happened to my old pack? My parents?” I feel like I had this unexplained source of energy in me and now I know I do and I can do something with it. I also really need to know what happened to my parents.”
“Dwelling on the past will not do you any good, but your pack was taken out by werewolf hunters. Summoners usually stay within small packs, typically family. Werewolves have always been jealous of summoner's abilities and have been treated differently. A strong summoner can control energy in human form and, if seen, can be misinterpreted.”
“What do you mean misinterpreted?”
“Sometimes people might mistake your powers for witchcraft.”
“But witches are not hunted, they usually work well with werewolves.”
“Summoners were not well understood as there is not a lot written about them, even to this day there is not much documented. Someone reported your family to the werewolf hunters thinking your family was practicing dark magic, not knowing what you really were.”
“So if my family was killed, how did I survive?”
“I am afraid that is all I am able to share with you right now. What is important is that even though you were raised by a different family, they are your foundation of strength. You will need to rely on them for what is to come, same with your close friends. Now that you know what you are, you need to practice manipulating the energy. Getting stronger will be key to your survival and the troubles that lie ahead. It will not be an easy road, but you must surround yourself with a good team.”
I sit there listening intently to what the Moon Goddess says.
“I must go now, child, but remember, you were born to lead. You're a true Alpha. Don’t let your upbringing or misfortunes cloud your judgment. You will lead many and they will look up to you for guidance.” She stands up from the grass and looks down at me with a smile.
“But I am a rogue now. How would I lead people?”
“You were never a rogue, you never truly belonged to the Pine Creek pack. You are your own pack. You must build your own and I do believe there is someone you already know who might need a leader,” she says before turning away from me and walking away and toward the forest.
“Trust your instinct, it is never wrong. We will meet again,” she yells over her shoulder while fading into the golden fog near the forest entrance.
