Chapter 4

POV Tessa The next morning, my parents brought me breakfast. As I am munching on my french toast sticks, my dad mentions he will discharge me early this afternoon. I am thrilled to be getting out of this stuffy hospital room. The blankets are itchy, there are only so many channels available on the TV, and the time goes by very slowly. As we were finishing up breakfast, there was a knock at the door. My dad gets up to open the door. “Alpha, Luna, good morning. Come on in,” he bowed slightly before moving out of the way to allow them to enter. Alpha Lorenzo and Luna Michelle run our pack, Pine Creek. They are both very sweet and caring people. My mom also bows to them as they both come to stand next to the bed that I am on. “Tessa, we heard you were injured in training yesterday and wanted to come check on you. How are you feeling?” Alpha Lorenzo says. “I am doing well, Alpha. Thank you.” I nodded my head. Luna Michelle pats my hand, “That is great to hear dear,” she says. “I know you will be missing training and school for a few weeks, but please let us know if there is anything we can do for you,” Alpha says. “I appreciate that, thank you Alpha. Thank you, Luna,” I smiled at them politely. My parents just adore them. The fact that they came to check on me when they were both busy running our pack of 300 people, says so much about their leadership. They leave 10 minutes later after making small talk with my parents. “Hunny, I am going to go home and prepare the house for when you get discharged,” my mom says to me. “Mom, that is not necessary. I just have a cut and a concussion. I am able to walk and move around.” I sigh and roll my eyes at her overbearing love. “Why don’t you just prepare lunch for us and then come back to get me when I am ready to leave?” I try to reason. “Well, that sounds like I can do that. I did take today off to be with you. I’ll clean up some of the house and will be here when your dad mindlinks me that you're ready.” “Okay, thank you mom. I love you." She comes over and gives me a kiss and tucks a loose piece of my brown hair behind my ear. “I love you too dear.” She exits and closes the door softly. I slouch down further in the bed to get comfy. I have a few more hours to pass before I can leave. I know today is Thursday, so Ella and Jonah are still in training and then they head to school. “Yeah me,” I think. I also get to miss a week of school, but I still have to do any missed homework that is assigned by the teachers. Ella is going to swing by my house this evening to bring me my assignments. She texted me right after Alpha and Luna left. Hopefully she will stay for dinner, since I know my mom is now going to make enough food for an army. I try to pass the time; I am staring blankly at the old hospital ceiling from where I lay in the bed. The paint is slightly peeling in some places and there are some yellow water stains in some areas. One of the water marks looks like a flying bird and the one behind it looks like a snail, slowly trudging along its path. Yeah, I think I am going stir crazy. I realized that besides my stir craziness, I slept very well last night. I didn’t have any dreams; it was very peaceful. On the downside, I am a lot sorer today. Thank the goddess for the painkillers my dad gave me. I could use a soak in a hot tub when I get home. I will have to figure out how to cover my wound, so it doesn’t get wet though. Friday~ I am now settled back in the house and trying to create a routine for myself since I can’t train for a few weeks or attend school for another week, but my birthday is next Wednesday. With the accident, we decided to change plans and just have a nice dinner with just the three of us. I am relaxing in my dad’s suede blue recliner in the living room with my feet propped up and ankles crossed. There is a window next to the chair that has a view of our backyard. I get to watch the birds fly around and the butterflies play in the flower beds. I texted Ella to see what her weekend plans were. I need to get out of the house, even if it is for just a few hours. T: Hey, it's friyayyy you know. Do you have plans? We should hang out. E: No big plans, I was actually going to text you. You should come over to my house. We can watch a movie and sing karaoke. What do you say? T: That actually sounds nice. Just what I need to keep myself distracted. E: Awesome. Meet me at my house at 5:30pm? T: I’ll be there chica. E: ?See you later gator. Awesome, I will definitely welcome the distraction. Ella is the daughter of the pack’s Gamma. Gamma Ryan helps oversee the pack patrols in the Delta and helps manage pack affairs, which makes him travel often. Usually, it is just Ella and her mom, Delilah. Delilah and my mom, Grace, have been good friends since Ella, and I have been best friends and inseparable since kindergarten. She was actually my first friend I made since coming to the orphanage at Pine Creek Pack. I decided to walk over to their house since it's just 12 minutes away from mine. I stepped onto their stone pathway that leads to their oversized front door. As I walk onto their wooden front porch, Ella is already opening the front door to greet me. “There you are, where are your parents?” she asks. “I decided to walk here and get some fresh air. I got cooped up inside the house all day.” She steps out of the way and ushers me inside into their small foyer. I place my small purple clutch on the wooden table in the middle of the room. Her house is more spacious than mine. Usually, we always end up here anyway, since there is more room to do activities and hang out. I am like the Gamma’s second child; I am always here. Jonah couldn’t make it tonight, Ella informed me. He somehow convinced poor Jennifer to go out on a date with him. We will definitely need to pry the details out of him later. “You pick a movie and I’ll make us some popcorn. What are you craving? Kettle corn or extra butter?” “I am in the mood for kettle corn. Do you also have M&Ms we can add?” I asked her. “Of course, you know I have pretty much every sweet known to man in my kitchen. Mom makes sure of that,” she chuckles. Ella makes her way to the kitchen to make the popcorn. I headed into their theater room down the long hallway at the end. I dim the lights and walk down the carpeted stairs to browse through the movie bookcase that is located on the right side of the TV. I settled on the "Italian Job" with Mark Wahlberg, who is just hot. Ella and I can fangirl over him all day. I walked over to the clothed bench on the far side of the room where they keep their blankets. I pull out a yellow fluffy crocheted one and a soft woven blanket that has her family's faces screen printed on the center; this one is her favorite. I had it made for her for Christmas last year. I settled into the theater recliner after I put the DVD on. Ella is not back yet, so I sent a quick text to Jonah. T: Sorry, we missed you tonight. Don’t drool too much over Jennifer tonight, I wouldn't want you to get dehydrated. ? T: XOXO Love you Nugget J: HAHAHA. My date is going great and no, I am not drooling. I might have in the beginning when I picked her up, but I am good now. T: Why are you ignoring your date to respond to me? Shouldn’t you be attentive to your drool-worthy date? J: If you must know, she had just walked to the bathroom, which is why I was checking my phone. He inserts the middle finger emoji. I laugh, I love to rile him up, it is too easy. I can just see him rolling his eyes at the table. T: Right, that better be why. Raincheck on movie night. J. Yeah, talk later. She is walking back to the table. Have fun, but not too much fun without me. T: Never! Night and don’t forget to wrap it up. J: OMGGG Tess, go away. T: LOL Love you! I am rolling with laughter when Ella comes into the theater. “What is so funny?” she says as she makes her way down to the recliner next to me, popcorn in hand and while sipping from a water bottle. “I was just reminding Jonah to use protection.” She spurts out the water and chokes a little. She clears her throat and glares at me, “You didn’t?” “Ohhhhh, but I did!” We stared at each other stoned-faced for a few seconds and then burst out laughing. “Oh, my goddess, you are so bad Tessa!” “I couldn’t help myself; I keep picturing when Jonah was ogling Jennifer at practice and can just imagine him now during this date with his mouth open and him drooling all over her.” I say through fits of laughter. “Speaking of ogling, let’s ogle the s**t out of Mark Wahlberg.” “Oh yeah! Which one?” Ella places the popcorn in between us so we can share. “Italian Job.” After settling down and getting comfortable in our seats, we start the movie. We end up falling asleep on the couch in her movie room after the third movie, Ted. I guess we were in a Marky Mark mood.
