Chapter 3

1545 Words
POV Tessa I am staring intently at Jonah’s face and body, and I am getting madder by the minute. This obnoxious ogre nugget doesn’t have one scratch on him. “Unbelievable!” I said. “I know, right. You need to be more careful.” I glared at Jonah. I hear shuffling around me. Great, now we have an audience. I can’t see who it is with my blurred vision, but they approach Jonah, “Is she okay?” It’s Dexter, the one who tried to eat me. He must have shifted back into his human form. “She will be. Looks like she has a deep cut on her neck and probably a concussion.” Jonah responded to him. “Do you want me to transport her to the clinic on my wolf?” “Noooo” I protested. “Just pick me up and carry me to the clinic, Nugget! My head is spinning, I don’t think I can hang on to your wolf, Dexter.” I said softly, trying not to offend him. “Yes, princess. Right away, princess.” Jonah smiled. Jonah scoops me up and I lean my head against his chest and close my eyes. “Let me mindlink Delta Marcus to let him know you both are headed to the clinic and are not returning to training today.” Dexter turns away from us and walks back toward the training ground. Oh, it would be nice to mindlink other pack members and to be able to heal quickly. Yeah, healing abilities right about now would be lovely. As Jonah carries me to the clinic, I think about the obstacle course. Gosh, we didn’t even get halfway through the course. There was still an archery section with moving targets, a mud pit that you had to walk and crawl through while evading wolfsbane water balloons. A wave of disappointment settles in. I know I am capable of finishing the course in the top 5 of my group. I guess today wasn’t my day. My eyes are still closed. I began to feel slightly nauseous, but know we are close to the clinic since I hear my dad screaming my name. “Tessa, oh my goddess, Tessa! Jonah, what happened?” He is trying to remain calm while questioning Jonah for answers. I opened my eyes, “Hi dad” I said shyly. My dad is holding the door open while Jonah carries me in. “Here, you can place her here in this room so I can examine her.” Jonah carefully lays me down. I feel like a fragile doll. I hate feeling this way. “Thank you nugget for bringing me here, but I don’t forgive you yet for smashing into me like a hulk,” I whisper to him while my dad is distracted. Jonah chuckles, I give his hand a squeeze. “I’ll wait for you out here and I will grab you something to eat, since I know you will get hangry if you miss lunch,” he says. “Thank you, “ I mouth to him as he exits the medical room. “Sweetie, tell me where it hurts”, my dad says softly. “I think just my head and my neck, dad. I fell on my back.” “Turn over, let’s get a better look at your neck, we need to stop the bleeding, it seems to be bleeding a lot,” he says. I proceeded to roll over on my stomach. He lets out a small gasp but manages to cover it up with a cough. “You are going to need stitches,” his eyes glazed over for a minute. I just mindlinked the nurse to bring supplies in here so we can get this stitched up for you. “This is a deep cut Tessa, what were you doing when you fell?” he questions. “Well, you know…I was running in the obstacle course….” “mhhhumm,” he nods along as I continue to talk and he cleans my wound. “Annnnd I was swinging on a rope away from the pack warriors, when I was attacked by Hulkzan.” “You were attacked by a what?” he exclaims. “Ohh you know…. the Hulk and Tarzan, but in reality it was Jonah. Accidentally, of course.” I add even though he knows Jonah would never intentionally hurt me. “Of course,” he rolls his eyes at my elaborate story. “I am going to talk to Delta Marcus, you guys are too young to have wolves chase you during training. That was extremely dangerous,” he states. “But dad, our pack is at risk of being attacked anytime by rogues, other packs, heck even other supernaturals. I know I am too young to have my wolf, which will heal me, but regardless, I need to know what to do and how to defend myself. He is training us for real life scenarios; don’t you want me to be able to defend myself?” I try to reason with him. “As a father it is hard to see my pup hurt, I know you're almost 16 which to you practically means adulthood, but you are still my little pup,” he says, getting a little choked up. I was so immersed in our conversation I didn’t even realize the nurse had entered the room or that they had started to stitch me up. “I just want you to be careful, especially since you can’t shift yet,” my dad pushed. “I will, I promise.” He bandaged up my wound and applied some ointment to the other scratches I had on my back from my fall. “All done. Unfortunately, you will probably have a scar, sweetie. I am giving you some antibiotics and some painkillers for the next few days. I am also going to write you a note to be excused from training these next few weeks. Your stitches need to be kept clean and need to heal up a bit before any extraneous activity. I also think you have a concussion. Turn over and sit up so I can examine your head.” He helps me sit up in the hospital bed and he has me swing my legs over the side. He rolls over a chair and sits down in front of me so that we are eye level. He pulls out a small light from his white lab coat. He proceeds to flash the bright light into my eyes. I grumbled “You should also be lecturing Jonah, he was the one who Tarzaned my ass.” “Really, so it is all Jonah’s fault and you had nothing to do with it?” He arches his eyebrow and smirks at me. I pointed toward the door where Jonah should be waiting, “Did you see him? Does he look hurt?” I countered. “Your always starting trouble my sweet Tessa!” He coos with love. He gave me a gentle kiss on my forehead. “Lay back, sweetie, and relax. You also have a mild concussion. You will need to limit any thinking and mental concentration activities for the next few days. Let’s have you stay overnight for observation and see how you are feeling tomorrow.” “Okay, but how am I not going to not think I do that a lot,” I say to him. He just chuckles. “I have faith in you sweetie. How about I send Jonah back here to keep you company and distract you? The nurse mindlinked me and informed me that Ella had arrived a few minutes ago and is waiting with Jonah. She is all worried about you.” “Yeah, of course, please send them in. Oh, and dad, do we have to tell my mom about this incident?” My dad roars with laughter, “You know that I don’t keep secrets from your mother. Especially when it comes to you, sweetie. I am going to mindlink her now and hopefully get her calm before she bulldozes her way over here.” He shakes his head as he starts to leave, he looks back over at me and says “I love you; I’ll be back in a bit to check on you, okay.” “Yeah, I love you too dad,” my eyes fill with tears but I quickly blink them away. I love my parents so much, I really did get lucky when they decided to adopt me. The rest of the night ends up flying by quickly. Jonah and Ella hung out until they were asked to come home by their parents, otherwise they would have ended up staying overnight with me. My mother came to visit, luckily with no hysterics. My dad was able to get her to return to our house but they said they would be back first thing in the morning. I am now by myself in the hospital room, which is perfectly okay with me. The exhaustion from the day finally hits me and my eyes begin to flutter close. Darkness surrounds me and I fall into a peaceful sleep.
