Between Two Worlds

Chapter Ten

It’s his Crystal Gifting.

I stared in awe as the light-covered boy ran towards the fox Outsider. He swung his hand again, this time connecting with it’s skull. The fox snarled angrily as it aimed a blow at Cade’s head.

It missed.

Cade immediately transformed into a black wolf. He reared up with a howl and lunged at the fox, biting into it’s back with a powerful snap of his jaws. I noticed the pale violet crystal in his chest, and I had to back away to avoid being squashed by the two beasts.

“You killed him! You killed him!” Cade screeched, taking a swing at the Outsider’s face. His claws connected with the creature’s eyes, blinding it immediately and sending it backwards. I watched in horror as Cade bounded in two strides after it, his black and silver pelt rugged in rage.

He’s gonna shred it!

Cade howled again, tearing into the Outsider’s pelt with his claws. His eyes widened at the sight of black liquid oozing from the creature, but continued his job. Thorn blinked in astonishment, and he shouted at Cade.

“Cade! STOP! We’re fighters, yes, but not barbarians.”

The black wolf gave the fox one last blow before walking away in shame. The Outsider lay still. I noticed it was still alive, but it was bleeding heavily and was letting out huge sighs. Suddenly, it let out a loud screech.

I felt a paw grab the scruff of my neck. I clenched my teeth to avoid alerting the group, for I only thought it was a young Outsider playing games.

As Thorn calmed down Cade, I was being dragged away into the dense undergrowth of the forest. I tried to cry out for help, but my jaws were clamped shut by the other paw of the foul-smelling creature.

I’m being kidnapped, I thought hurriedly, and I started to panic. I kicked and churned the air with my thin legs as I attempted to break free. I desperately tried to reach out to Micah with my aura, but to no avail.

I swung my tail multiple times at the Outsider, but that didn’t work. My thin fur couldn’t catch on to the spiky leaves of several thorny bushes, which would’ve slowed them down.

Then everything went black.
