The house phone began to ring. James picked up the green, old-fashioned house phone and placed it to his ear. It was Fred. "How are you getting on?" Asked James politely. "All fine, thank you, we are just doing out final checks to ensure everything is ready for this Sunday, I hope you don't mind, I tried to put the misses mind at ease and tell her how organised you boys were but you know how she is." Fred chuckled. "You know you are welcome to call anytime time Fred, Yes the horse and Carriage will be outside the hotel ready for her to step in to, and the car will be there for you exactly an hour before that so you will both be there with time to spare." James said reassuringly. The brothers had known Fred for a quite a few years, he once was their groundskeeper, until they retired him, they looked after all of their employees, ensuring they all retired early and financially taken care of, it was well known that if you were lucky enough to work for the Lock brothers you were very well looked after. Despite working for them for many years, they saw Fred as an old family friend. The brothers owned a beautiful carriage, fit for a princess, quite literally, it was the very carriage their father had maintained almost 300 years ago, it had many parts replaced and repaired over the years but the brothers spared no expense, it was priceless to them. The carriage was kept in their stables, along with their horses. the carriage was a wedding gift from the royal family their father once worked for, gifted to Jacob and his bride. At the young age of 16 Jacob had married in to the royal family, although his story was not one he ever spoke about, you see, the farther of Jacobs beloved bride was a gambling man, despite being born into riches he made it evident you can't buy common sense, the king gambled away most of his families fortune, he died leaving the royal family in a substantial amount of debt, Jacob being a man of honer did not marry his bride for money, nor status, he married her for love. His bride was beautiful, she had emerald green eyes, fiery red hair and a courageous personality to match, he saw her as his best friend, and she was his world. They were so in love, they spent every spare moment in eachothers company, he was so happy to by her side. Jacob had managed to help the family successfully escape the kings debt, he advised the family to sell some of their assets and being such a respected man he was able to pull some strings to ensure the family his future children would be born in to would not lose their noble title, he didn't care for noble status but he knew how important it was to his bride, their love was truly a fairytail, she was a princess and he was her savior. The young couples favourite activity was horse riding, besides making love of course. One morning she came to him with joyous news. She was with child. Throughout her pregnancy she would constantly crave blackberry's. "He loves Blackberry's!" she said "if he shares your love for Blackberry's, hopefully, he will share your love of riding, we will be to ride together as a family," Jacob replied. As each month passed she grew more and more excited, she couldn't wait to get back on her horse, she couldn't wait to meet their baby, "Alaric." she said one morning, Alaric was the name of her horse. "We can't name him after a horse." Jacob replied, "He will be king one day, what do you think of the name Sargon, meaning true king." he added, "I like it, but should decide his name when we meet him." she replied. He awoke to sounds of screaming, she was in labour, he jumped out of bed. He was overwhelmed with joy, the day he had been waiting for had finally come, it was the day he would become a father. After many treacherous hours the doctor was called. She was being assited by some of the best midwifes around but what she needed was a doctor. The doctor was not in town, and there was nothing to be done, they couldn't deliver the breach baby. Her screaming had stopped, she had passed out from the pain and blood loss, they couldn't wake her. She grew pale, laying there lifeless, a midwife was sent to give word to Jacob, his wife had passed, their child perishing with her. Jacobs heart shattered, tears filled his big brown eyes. He rushed into the delivery room to hold his bride, which was not the done thing. The delivery room was no place for a gentleman, especially one of Jacobs status. He sobbed, holding her in his arms, "Don't leave me!" he cried out, but was too late, the graphic image burned into his memory, reminding Jacob of the trauma he endured with his mother when he was just a boy. Tears streaming down his face, "please don't leave me!" he couldn't let her go, still holding her he vowed he would never marry again. A few hours later the doctor arrived, Jacob still holding her. The doctor ordered for Jacobs brothers to come to take him away, his brothers came, taking him to the next room, moments later there was a knock at his door, it was a midwife, the doctor had performed a cesarean to retrieve to child, by God's grace the child had survived, she handed Jacob the baby, bundled in a red cloth, "Your son." she said, fighting back her own tears, the tiny baby had his mothers fiery red hair. "Alaric." Jacob whispered. Jacob stood up and walked over to his brother, "We will make sure of it, Fred." He said, reassuring his old friend. "Thank you, all of you, I really do appreciate your help." Fred said chipperly. "I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening!" He added. "You too, the boys said as James placed the phone down. James went in to the study and picked up the brown envelope, the one Mason had asked Elizabeth to take in there, he noticed he book was closed with the piece of paper placed carefully on top of the closed book. He opened the brown envelope to find a cheque for 1.5 million dollars, signed Mr Doherty, he owned a very profitable company, he wanted the brothers to write an article about it, you see, anyone who was anyone was mentioned in their exclusive newspaper. This was not a matter of money for either party, this was a power play and a matter of principle, the thing is, neither Mr Doherty nor the brothers needed the money they where all incredibly wealthy. James handed the cheque to Jacob, who laughed before dropping the cheque in the open rubbish bin. All three brothers despised Mr Doherty and everything that he stood for. No amount of money would persuade them to write a single word about him or his business. Even a bad article highlighting all of the man's wrong doings would be more publicity than he deserved. All three brothers were on the same page, Mason hadn't even bothered to open the envelope, that is how little he cared for Mr Doherty, Mason had the loosest of morals out of the three brothers and they knew he would get up to some questionable things every so often, but he did so very quietly, he was intelligent, he knew better than to bring any kind of trouble back with him. All three brothers were highly regarded and not a su gle soul had anything bad to say about them, they were very persuasive, a power that came with being a vampire, they could compel people to do anything they wanted, they mastered this power so well, The reason no one had heard of a vampire is because after they feel they would compel their victims to lay low so they could consider to go back and feed off of them, and compel their victims to forget that it had ever happened. It was something Mason knew all too well, it was his daily routine, find a beautiful young lady take her to a fancy hotel or for a scenic drive, finding a quiet secluded place and quenching his thirst, Mason was the strongest and most powerful of the three brothers, this is because he drank human blood. The twins didn't enjoy animal blood they simply drank it to survive, something Mason had always refused to do, he promised to be discreet in order to keep the brothers secret safe, Mason would do anything for his brothers, except drink animal blood ofcourse.
