*Present day*
"This isn't some teenage infatuation. We are both grown. We know what we are getting ourselves into right?" Mason said, he was trying so hard to restrain himself from lunging in for a kiss, his body desperate to climb on top of her. "I don't know what came over me! I'm still a virgin!" she cried, she was still faced down, her voice was muffled but he heard her. The revelation only made him want her more. He wanted to show her pleasure, to give her the greatest orgasm of her life, he just hadn't realised it would be her first. He got excited, he knew he could please her, After all, living for over 300 years, you can learn a thing or two. He calmed himself, trying his best to reasure her, he knew she could walk away at any given moment and never look back if she so wished.
"We can take things slowly, I'm sorry I rushed you, if I had known I would have nev..." he began. "You didn't rush me, I want you, desperately, but I barely know you and... you're my boss! What am I doing?" She screamed. Craving her touch he placed his hand on her leg, he desperately wanted to comfort her but wasn't sure how. "Quit, come on a date with me, we can get to know each better." Mason suggested. She had barely been working a day, she couldn't afford to quit she had no home, no savings and no family to fall back on, if she was to do as he suggested she would be risking far too much, or was it all too late? Had she already blown her chances of working for the Lock family? "I can't," Elizabeth replied, she sat up to face him, to face the consequences of her actions.
"I can't quit, this job is all I have." she said in defeat. "I have no back up plan, No savings, I don't have a home or family, I have nothing." She said, taking in a deep breath, she exhaled, "What was I thinking?" she asked out loud, knowing it was rhetorical, Mason still decided to reply, "Then stay, keep your job, we still need someone who can cook, clean and take care of the place, I can back off, I really do like you, but I don't like the idea of you feeling obligated to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing, and if you decide to change your mind, I will be here, honestly Elizabeth, there will be no pressure from me." Mason said, he was desperately trying to be reasonable.
Elizabeth took a moment to evaluate the situation and think about everything that had been said, she could hear the sincerity in his voice which was very comforting. "You don't mind if we went back to a professional relationship?" She said with a hint sadness in her voice, she hated to admit it but the idea he could just give in so easly made her feel a little disappointed. Mason looked at her, His eyes widened, he could tell she had become disenchanted with the idea of ending things before they had even began. He really didn't want to disappoint her, from the moment he set eyes on Elizabeth he was enamoured with her, her radient smile, irisistable laugh and her ability to match his audacious behaviour, but despite all of that, Mason felt like loving her was a losing game.
"I'm sure this doesn't come as a surprise to you Elizabeth, but I am use to getting what I want, but even I know it would be wrong to force you into something you didn't want to do." he said. This statement could not be further from the truth, okay yes, he did like her very much, he was indeed infatuated, and yes he did end up getting every thing he wanted one way or another, and this situation was no different to any other, he had decided to see if guilt would sway her to not only stay, but to quit her job so that her sole focus was to be there as his play thing, he was not above manipulation or games. If his brothers were not right outside the door he would have already compelled her to stay and do exactly what he wanted, well aware his brothers would intervene if they heard him force her to do something she wouldn't actually do out of her own free will, he needed to be strategic. Like I said, living for over 300 years, you can learn a thing or two.
James knocked on the door. "May I come in?" he asked. "Go away." Mason replied. He was not ready for his younger brother to come in and talk sense to her. "Elizabeth?" Jacob said, "Go away." Mason replied again, this time he sounded agitated. Mason knew Jacob was very responsible and respectful, he would offer Elizabeth a job that paid even better in a different town, one as far away as possible. Jacob had done this many times before, Mason put his brothers in this situation more times than the brothers cared to remember.
"Come in." Elizabeth said. She grabbed a cushion and placed it on her lap, wrapping her arms around it, giving her some comfort, she held the cushion tightly, pushing her back against the headboard so that she would have to face the brothers, both figuratively as well as literally, accepting she would have to face the consequences of her actions.
The brothers entered her room. Jacob sat on the chair thay was in the corner of her room and James stood by the door. Mason was still seated comfortably on her bed. "This probably feels very overwhelming, but I want you to know that James and I have decided it might be best if Mason left for a while, you seem quite upset and we want you to know that you, Elizabeth, are our priority, I hired you because of your experience running your last household and would would really appreciate it if you stayed, but if you are uncomfortable we can offer you another job, we have a newspaper, a magazine and many properties so the opportunities are endless, we overheard you saying you really need this job, I want to ensure you are aware you will be well looked after no matter what you choose to do Miss Elizabeth." Jacob said reassuringly.
Up until now Elizabeth had felt as though she was stood at the very top of a skyscraper, looking down at certain impending doom, but after hearing what Jacob had to say she felt a little more at ease, as though he had helped her take a step back from the edge, "Thank you Jacob," were all the words she could muster.
It took a moment for what had been said to sink in but once it did Mason was outraged. "I will go to my room and give you time to think." he said looking at Elizabeth, he stood up and made his way to the door, purposely ensuring his shoulder caught James's shoulder, this was to show his brother he was far from happy with their actions and words, his response was one of a spoiled child, was this one of the rare times he would not get what her desired? Hearing his brothers tell Elizabeth she was a priority infuriated him, how dare they suggest he be the one to leave, his own home, well one of many but that was besides the point. He shouldn't be the one made to leave, he thought to himself.
Deciding he needed to let off some steam. Mason made his way down the stairs, grabbed his car keys he headed out the door.
