CHAPTER 12The mayor’s house was large for Rockburg. Like other old homes in town, it was a rambling white clapboard house built over several generations. The original two-story structure was nearly square, typical of homes built in the late 1800s. Sometime around World War I, when the agricultural economy boomed, a rectangular addition was added on. Indoor plumbing and electric lights were available in town. A porch added during the same era wrapped around two sides of the house. Windows and screens that enclosed the porch were more modern, early 1950s, Throckmorton guessed.
