CHAPTER 23Throckmorton and Earl stood on the sidewalk by the Kessler building on a bleary, overcast Thursday as the three-man SIM crew arrived for the subsurface mapping. He watched as two of the men pulled a cart loaded with instruments over the brewery lot while the third man sat at a computer in their van. Ten minutes of that was enough for him. Rain looked imminent. Something about the tracks the technicians’ cart left on the lot nudged a memory. He was uneasy but couldn’t identify why. When he felt a few raindrops, he walked to the SIM van, followed by Earl. Throckmorton asked the technician a couple of questions, gave him his cell phone number, and turned to walk to his car.
