I woke up bright and early on Monday, the morning sunlight streaming through the curtains of my small but cozy apartment. I stretched, feeling that buzz of energy that comes with the start of a new week. After quickly changing into my running gear, I headed out for my morning run. The crisp air filled my lungs, and the rhythm of my feet pounding the pavement helped clear my mind. By the time I got back, I felt refreshed and ready to take on the day.
Back at the apartment, I tidied up, making sure everything was in its place. There was something soothing about the order, especially after the chaos of the weekend. By the afternoon, I decided to cook dinner for myself and Fara. Pasta was always a safe bet, comforting and easy, and I knew Fara would appreciate it after a long day at the hospital.
Fara worked as a midwife in the maternity ward, and her shifts were grueling. She mostly worked weekends, which meant her days off were Tuesdays and Wednesdays. But tonight, she was in for a surprise—I'd planned a movie night for the two of us.
When Fara finally walked through the door, the first thing she was hit with was the delicious smell of freshly cooked pasta. I was lounging on the couch, already holding a bowl of popcorn.
"Hey, Hadi," Fara greeted, kicking off her shoes and dropping her bag by the door. "What's up?"
I grinned. "Did you forget? It's our movie night! I made pasta, and I was thinking we could watch a romcom after dinner. Sounds good?"
Her face lit up. "That sounds perfect. Let me just go change, and I'll be right back."
A few minutes later, Fara returned in her comfiest pajamas, and we sat down to eat. The pasta was simple but delicious, and we ate in comfortable silence—one of those quiet, easy moments that come only with years of friendship. After dinner, we scrolled through the streaming service, debating which movie to watch. We finally settled on a romcom that promised lighthearted laughs and a happy ending.
As the movie played, Fara turned to me. "So, any news on the job you applied for? Did they get back to you yet?"
I sighed, a little disappointed. "Not yet. I was really hoping to hear something by today, but it's only been a day. I guess I just need to be patient."
Fara reached over and gave my hand a reassuring squeeze. "Hey, don’t stress about it. These things take time. There are probably tons of candidates, and they have to go through all the applications. You'll hear back soon, I'm sure of it."
I smiled, feeling some of the tension ease from my shoulders. "Thanks, Fara. I needed to hear that."
The movie continued, and by the end, both of us were laughing and quoting our favorite lines. When the credits rolled, we found ourselves deep in conversation—talking about everything from work to our dreams for the future. Hours passed, and before we knew it, exhaustion caught up with us. We fell asleep on the couch, the soft glow of the TV casting a warm light over the room.
