Chapter 8: What is a Pactmaker?

Now, back to Monty.

Monty is outside, jumping from the rooftops. He stops at a skyscraper,looking out into the distance. To see the beauty of Beaumont as a metropolis. These night lights, the midnight sky above him. What a beautiful sight and what a nice breeze.

The demons materialized behind Monty in their human forms, adjusting their ties, stretching their necks.

“Hearing your Pactmaker’s name being used is a good thing, it's been far too long since I've heard you say that.” Red says to him, while Monty keeps his gaze focused on the outside.

“Though Srinxall. That demon lord that was once sealed by the great powers of the Pactmakers with the Paranormals of Beaumont. If he has risen once more, we can only guess what he is up to. Either for revenge or to open the demon world to humans again.” Aries speaks with a lower volume, showing his fear of the unknown that may occur at any given moment.

“If Srinxall is back. Then your work at Beaumont is going to get harder, my master.” Monty nods, knowing fully well that there will be trouble brewing.

“Master, the demon realm’s energies and atmosphere, it is not one for the faint hearted. Mere humans may not be able to keep their sanity should they enter it.” Monty takes a note of what Red had just said, it is a realm that cannot be handled by humans, nor can humans may make the technology to even enter it.

“This will explain the rise of supernatural presences within the past few days. Sooner or later Ridgeland will be known to be a safe haven for us. I just hope Ambrosse City will be able to house most of the peaceful beings that are lurking within your society.” Aries adds to that statement yet Monty looks disinterested in this conversation.

“Scarlett?” Monty looks at Aries with his eyebrows raised.

“We.. We could feel your flames burning for her, the flames in your heart and soul. I wonder if this is what humans like yourself call love?” Aries makes the statement as he takes off his mask revealing Monty’s face on him.

“Well, at least I have a body double for school. I never knew you liked having my face.”

“I choose to have your face, to aid you in whatever capacity I am able, master.” Aries tells him as he bows to him.

“I don’t know how I feel about Scarlett. I feel nervous, a little uneasy at one moment and calm the next. I find her interesting, a very sweet, gentle and well mannered individual.” Monty says as he puts a cigarette by his lip, to which he finds Leo lighting up the cigarette for him.

Monty inhales the cigarette, closing his eyes as he enjoys the serene wind. Feeling as if the wind is holding his body up in the air. Monty feels as if his body is on clouds, with the bright night lights, the neon signboards and the sounds of the night life take over. The loud deafening music from the night clubs, to the calm, relaxed bar atmosphere. Monty hears this calmly, the world sounds amazing at the moment. Monty preferred this with his eyes closed, he could feel the whole city beneath him.

Demon summoners, or rather known as Pactmakers, are individuals who have made a contract or has won over a demon. The demons will in turn serve these Pactmakers to be their servants, willingly to do whatever bidding that their master suggests to them.

Pactmakers generally have two names.

Their human names and their Pactmaker Name. Both serve a different function in the life of a Pactmaker.

The human names are to conceal their identities from the demons as well as allow them to roam freely in this world without being detected by the supernatural or the paranormal. They also serve as their connection to the human realm as well as keeping their lives separated. The paranormal creatures would not be able to recognize a Pactmaker who is using his human name as a method of deception until it is too late or until it is made clear to them via the Pactmaker’s actions. All paranormal creatures are separated into their own special categories as per how demons are categorized by their strength and lineage. Demons which are strong or have a grander lineage will not be easily deceived by a Pactmaker unless the Pactmaker has the service of demons of the same lineage or higher. Should the demons be of lower level but the Pactmaker has a few demons which can aid to the concealment of their abilities or the Pactmaker has the sufficient number of demons which can match the strength of the high level demons, it will allow the Pactmaker to get by easily.

However, some demons of certain lineages are simply not easy to deceive, and some of them can sniff out other demons regardless of where they are and what they do.

The Pactmaker name, serves as their names to unleash the powers that have been invested in them via the demons that they possess. As an example, Monty has access to flames as per his contract with Aries and Leo, whereby the contract of the two demons would allow him to cast fire without the need for incantations or use of special chants to spark flames. The contract he has with Red Sierra gives him access as well as increases his proficiency with the scythe and generally for melee weapons. Some abilities are passive and some are activated upon the Pactmaker revealing his name. As such, when Monty uses his Pactmaker name he dons the cloak which is similar to Red, alongside a pair of sickles which can be combined to form a scythe. This is the result of Red’s active ability while his passive ability is enhanced human senses and responses. Each demon becomes an additional help as they add or unlock more ability traits for the Pactmaker.

As for Demons they are catageroized in the following.

From the lowest. There are the basic demons, which are like Leechers who are not capable of thought or understanding of their actions. They cannot be made to form pacts mainly due to their beast nature which is uncontrollable.

They have the Demonic Champions, which are demons who have reached a certain capacity of intellect yet are weak. They can be made to form pacts but are generally not chosen by many Pactmakers due to their weak nature and use as cannon fodder for large scale combat.

Then, you have the Ultimate Demons, such demons are strong and have a grasp on intelligence. They are capable of understanding and explaining things in ways that humans can understand or are capable of achieving great feats. For example, an Ultimate Demon is capable of burning its enemies all around them should the need be brought up and is capable of unleashing a wide range of powers. The Zodiac demons are in this category, Leo being able to turn into a lion, accompanied by his ability to create scorching hot flames that can burn through metals with ease.

The second highest order of demons are Demonic Phantoms, which are demons whose abilities and skills are known to have started legends within the human realm. As how the Sierras are, they are demons that have left their mark in the human realm as legends or are responsible for certain events. The Red,Grey and Black Sierras are in this category as per how their combat prowess and the legend of Lady Sierra’s Three Tragedies that accompany it.

The highest order of demons, Demon Lords.The strongest and deadliest demons. Their abilities, their wise character and they do not necessary leave a mark in the human realm, but when th demons hear of their names or of their presence, demons of the lower ranks will falter as the overwhelming pressure and force would be enough to completely cripple them. Even the strongest Pactmakers would have trouble facing these demons. However, it is not impossible for Pactmakers to win them over, when duelling with Demon Lords, the Pactmaker will be required to reveal their name, their identities of their human life and their Pactmaker life. The duel will be up to the Demon Lords condition. Demon Lords are the hardest to find but they are also capable of feats which can bend reality itself, they can also shatter what logic that is present in the human realm. As a Demon Lord can simply erase the memories of those around them should their Pactmaker order it.

Lineage, would be a factor to determine the demons ability to hide, to conceal or to use abilities.

The lowest form of demonic lineage begins with the Spectres, this lineage is simple and a class that most demons belong to.

Then followed by the Wraiths, Wraiths are capable of hiding some parts of their demonic presence but they can be detected by demons of a higher lineage with ease.

The highest, Phantoms. Phantoms are completely capable of hiding their presence entirely, even capable of throwing the demons on their tail off by creating fake demonic presences or illusions to keep them safe.
