Chapter 5: Chancellor's Words and Mother Mary

1308 Words
After the class, Kristina makes her way to the Chancellor's room with Scarlett as she needs to talk to Chancellor Marcus’s secretary with matters regarding the events that are upcoming in the following few months. “Come in.” Chancellor Marcus is seen in the room holding his cup of tea. “How has Jane treated you?” Kristina is unsure of what to say, as she looks down. “Kindly.” She answers to the Chancellor, who smiles back to her answer as he puts the cup down. “I heard from someone in SAC that you have a crush on Jane.” Kristina looks at the Chancellor with a shocked expression as she tries to remember who would give such information away. Was it June? Shawn? Scarlett? Rebecca? The list goes on and on, to which the Chancellor shushes her. Attracting her attention and to tell her to calm down. “You’re not used to having a crush, so I can imagine what’s been running in your head. To tell Jane or not, to ask him out for Valentine’s or not. Whether you can handle seeing him with another girl or not.” Chancellor Marcus’s words are just… ‘on point’ as they say, like bullseyes made by a sharp marksman. “Would you like some advice?” The chancellor asks as he goes over to his bookshelf, rearranging the books. Kristina nods as she cautiously shifts her shoulders and fixes her gaze on the chancellors’ back. “Jane’s heart is locked for a while. It will take an amazing key to unlock his heart to the emotion known as love. He is troubled by certain things. He is broken, damaged and wounded. Love can heal all those injuries, but you must understand. That when I say a while, you will need to persevere for a certain time period that is not determined. An unknown factor, if you will.. To win his heart, you must show that you are willing to fall for him, to show that you will make time for him. That you will be patient with him. For a man like Jane, whose lover was robbed away from him by life. It will take a while for him to move on as he would feel like he is betraying her memory should he do so. I’m telling you this, because it raises a concern with me due to Jane’s position as a Sierra. Regardless of whatever emotional damage he suffers, Jane’s work as a Sierra will not be affected. He would simply be going out more often, avoiding school with a much higher frequency. If his heart opens to you, it will only be yours and to none other. His heart will be yours to keep.” The chancellor’s speech seemed a bit excessive but the message was clear. ‘Have the guts to go for him if you want him. Be patient cause you will get a keeper’ That is what Kristina thinks as she hears this. “Why it concerns me, every human being deserves happiness. Jane and his other Sierra team mates, they fight to preserve that happiness for others but they don’t experience it. Guys like him, they can go hours fighting for peace and to protect others. They don’t lose their reason of fighting, but sometimes, they need a reason to come back home safely. He hasn’t told you much, but when he does. That shows he trusts you. If you and him do happen. Do take care of him.” “Is that all Chancellor?” “Yes. You may go now.” Kristina bows, then leaving the room. Finding Jane holding her bag, much to Kristina’s surprise. “You forgot this in the SAC room. Ready to go back?” Kristina shakes her head. “I’m sorry, I forgot to tell you. I have plans with my friends.” Jane nods, Kristina was expecting Jane to be angry or annoyed that she did not inform him. “Alright, where to?” Jane asks as he holds the bag for her, despite Kristina’s hands reaching for the bag. “Let me carry it, your shoulders look tense. Your eyes a little tired. So, answer my question. Where are we going?” “The Radford Mall, they’ve got a new steakhouse that we’ll be going there.” “Ah, what a coincidence. I have to go meet someone at the steakhouse as well. So let’s go kill 2 birds with one stone.” Kristina smiles as the two of them get in the Jane’s Audi.. They drive their way to Radford avenue, which is just about 5 kilo meters from Beaumont University. When they arrived, Kristina could see Charles, Scarlett and the others seated by the center of the restaurant. ‘Neil’s Steakhouse.’ It had a cowboy vibe, with the waiters and waitresses wearing cowboy boots, cowboy hats with the badge on their chests with the word ‘Deputy for meats’. To which they greet her warmly. “Kris!” Kristina is seen walking with Jane, much to their surprise. Jane is seen carrying Kristina’s bag, then he comes over walking to their table. Pulling the chair for Kristina, who is surprised with his act. “Take a seat.” Kristina takes her seat, with Jane pushing the chair in for her. “Here’s your bag.” Kristina looks at Jane who smiles to her friends before turning his eyes at this woman who walks through the entrance. Wearing a red dress with a black belt, an expensive handbag, a ring in her hand. She had short hair, a sweet smile and it was obvious guys were eyeing in on her as one way to describe her ‘A Strong Independent Woman’ would come to mind when one see’s her. The aura she gives, it can intimidate people. She walks on over to Jane. “Hello Jane. I’m sorry that you’re meeting me on such a short notice.” “It’s fine. So, shall we take a seat?” the woman nods, as Jane walks with her to the corner, Kristina watches how Jane takes off his coat, putting it on this woman which sparked a bit of jealousy in her. Jealous as she wishes that she could be wearing Jane’s coat, yet she is not jealous of how the woman and Jane are smiling to each other. The smiles look strained, but relieved.. Something that Kristina knew nothing about. Jane pulls the chair for this woman, who takes her seat. “You look sharp today, is that why my late daughter keeps falling for you?” this woman teases him, which Jane simply smiles back as a response. This, is just how Mary is. Trying to comfort herself when she meets Jane and talks to him. “I hope you’ve been doing well, Mother.” “I’m not your mother, Jane.” “You’re still my in-law to me. I still wear the ring, after all.” Mary sighs, looking at Jane with a weak smile, Jane takes out one of the rings from his fingers and Mary holds it. Mary holds the ring with teary eyes, she could barely speak. Jane looks at Mary with a calm gaze, and a handkerchief in hand. Jane could see Kristina stealing glances, as well as hear a bit of what her friends are saying. ‘Why is she crying?’
