‘Why is she crying?’ ‘Did Jane like hurt her or something? He looks calm?’ To which they see Jane standing up, then kneeling beside Mary, ready to wipe her tears. Jane’s act of kneeling had seemed like a Knight kneeling before his Queen. Jane wipes her tears to which Mary shakes her head. “It’s okay Jane. Thank you very much.” Jane stands up, as he takes his seat. The waiter gives the menu to Jane and Mary, to which they hastily make their orders which surprised the waiter. Mary looks at Jane who sits in front of her, with a calming smile and a gaze of understanding. “That girl you were with, is she someone you like?” “No, she’s someone I’m protecting as per my job as a Sierra.” Jane tells Mary casually, who nods as she watches Jane sip on his chocolate milkshake. “You’ve been a Sierra for 3 years, do you plan to quit?” Jane shakes his head as his eyes gleam with intent. “When you’re used to taking lives, it’s easier to do it rather than let some poor soul do this. Doing this since I was 10 years old, it’s just fair for me to keep going. Besides, seeing these people be reunited with their families, it makes it better.” Jane’s statement does make a point but for Mary, it’s just not comfortable for anyone to know that someone they love is in the business involving gangs and such. “Here.” Jane takes out a sketchbook, then showing it to Mary. “I’d like you to have it.” Mary opens the first page, seeing a detailed sketch of her family together, alongside her husband smiling. “I don’t know if I got their smiles right, but I just kept thinking of the many moments you shared with your family and thought this is something I could do.” “Thank you, this is too much.” “Well, let’s eat.” Jane and Mary look at their steak that had just arrived, Kristina steals a few glances at the two of them. “That girl must like you a lot, stealing glances like that.” “She has a crush on me, that’s all.” Mary smiles to him, shaking her head as she looks at Kristina, then winks at her. Kristina immediately turn her head around. ‘Sierra 2. Werewolves inside the mall. They are looking for Kristina.’ Jane looks at the text, his face shows that its work. Mary looks at him with worry. “It’s work. It was nice to see you Mom. Sorry that work got in the way.” Mary nods, she stands up with Jane, followed by embracing him in her arms. Returning Jane’s coat to him. “You too, Jane. Take care.” Jane nods as she leaves first while paying the bill. Kristina looks at Jane who stands next to her, seeing her friends looking at him cautiously, five men walk into the restaurant as they approach the table Jane stands in front of them. “Move aside.” One of men tells Jane. “Make me.” Jane teases them, only to be greeted by a fist to his face which is stopped by Jane’s hands, much to their surprise. Jane takes off the pendants, giving it to Kristina. “Hold on to those for me. They are the remains of my family.” Jane says coldly, followed by wrapping the chain around his fist, then proceeds to punch the man, sending him to the wall. “How?” “Pure silver, mate.” Jane says casually to which the men look alarmed. “You’re bluffing…” Jane punches another man’s face, to which the man bleeds profusely as he takes a step back. “Bastard!” the men stand firm, Jane could hear them growling which also alarms Kristina. “Yes, those men are growling like dogs.” “HOW DARE YOU CALL US THA-“ Jane punches the werewolf’s stomach with ease, then wrapping the chain around its neck, which burns deeply into its body. Kristina could see the burn marks and smoke coming out from the werewolf’s neck. “I’ll let him go, if you let her go.” Jane tells them, to which the werewolves take a few steps back, Jane releases the werewolf, where it rolls aside and looks at Jane with fear. “Run along now. Before I lose my patience.” Jane says with a smile, and in a moment’s notice that smile caused the werewolves to have a spine chilling fear within them. Running off on all fours as they entered the alleys. “Are you alright, Kristina?” Jane asks. “Thank you, Jane.” Kristina gives Jane back the pendants which he puts them on his neck once more. “Sorry for disturbing you guys, Kristina. If you need me, I’ll be outside.” “Why not join us?” Scarlett asks Jane who shakes his head. “Thanks but I’ll pass. Fresh air is nice after beating up some punks.” Jane tells them as he goes out of the restaurant, standing by the entrance. ‘Feeling a little bit happy about that encounter?’ Scorpio’s question makes Jane think for a bit, since he has a smile on his face after scaring the werewolves. ‘Yep. A good beat down is nice after two long days of doing nothing, my bones might die of boredom.’ Jane answers as he scans the surrounding buildings and shops. “Jane.. Seems nice, but he’s violent...” Charles remarks to them, to which Kristina looks a little hurt, yet unsure of what to say. “He is, he’s just… Jane’s… Just hard to approach.” Kristina’s tone, followed by her weak voice, it seems that she is a little shaken up by Jane’s action. ‘Hey. What’s wrong?’ Kristina looks at her text, seeing Jane expressing his concern over her well being, she turns to see Jane looking at her from the outside, giving him a smile and he replies with his smile. “Jane is usually distant from people because of a lot of stuff that he has hidden.” Kristina says to them, getting the attention of her friends. ‘I’m not a private person. Tell them what you want, it’s just old stories..’ Kristina sees the text, seeing Jane smiling to her, then continues to looking around. “He lost his family when he was younger and when he was bald. It’s because he lost someone special to him. Do you guys remember Rose from foundation?” “Yeah, the one that withdrew from foundation because of cancer.” “Jane was her boyfriend.. And She.. She passed away.” The group is quiet for a moment. “He’s been through a lot, and I guess he’s just tired of losing those precious to him, maybe that’s why he is always distant.” Jane hears this with a smile, looks like Kristina isn’t just an airhead that he teases at all. “I’ve only met him for a few days, but Jane… There’s so much that I don’t know about him. The mysteries that I want to know, but I don’t know if I should.” Kristina looks down, to which she gets a pat from Scarlett. “Hey, it’s okay. Monty is a mystery too. I wonder, if we can do like… A double date plan?” Scarlett’s suggestion is something that Kristina had thought of previously. “But would it be alright? I don’t even know if he’s going to say yes? Like what if he doesn’t? What if he..” Scarlett puts her hands on Kristina’s shoulder. “CALM DOWN.” Kristina hears Scarlett shaking her. “I’m going out with Monty later, tonight. I’m going to get a little closer to him before I ask, so try to be a little closer with Jane too.” Scarlett suggests to Kristina who nods, while Charles and the others are just smiling at this scene of the two girls behaving this way a rare sight as Scarlett and Kristina are known to be work oriented, never laughing , rarely smiling during work. Jane nods his head a bit, in admiration of Scarlett’s suggestion. “2, it’s 1. Are the werewolves gone?” “Yeah the dogs are gone. Where’s 3?” “Currently I’m at campus, beating the living s**t out of some Leechers. The usual.” Jane scoffs at Reiner’s words, as he hears the sound of something being beaten with. “That’s a whole new definition of beating your meat.” “Oh, really? Really 2? God, that is.. Ah, f**k you.” Jane and Monty laugh as they hear Reiner whining on the radio as he hears the punching. “Looks like our 1, has a date with a Red Rose later.” Jane teases Monty, who remains silent for a moment. “Holy s**t? Details! Who asked first, you or Red Rose?” “I won’t disclose that.” “We’re on a private channel, jackass. Come on, tell us. We’ve been dying to see you and her talk.” “She asked, I made time. I’m bringing her over to the Blooming Rose, the VIP section. For a private talk with her.” “That’s a good place for a talk, good luck.” Jane recommends as he looks at the parade of cars that are moving before him, keeping watch for a certain shade of green as the 51st Fleeters, paint their cars with a shade of green with yellow stripes. A common trait of werewolves in general, who are territorial and prefer to show their dominance. Jane has his pistol inside of his briefcase, to which Kristina texts him. “You look cold outside, why not come back in? My friends say, you can join us if you want.” Jane nods, as Scarlett stands up to give him the seat. “Normally, I’d be giving you the seat, not me. So..” Jane pulls a chair for Scarlett by Kristina’s side. “Thank you for the spot, Scarlett.” “My name is Jane. I know, Scarlett and Kristina but I don’t think I’ve been formally introduced to the guys.” “I’m Charles.” Charles, putting his cap back on says to him and smiling. Wearing his square framed glasses. “I’m Dwayne. Nice to meet you.” Dwayne, a chubbier guy offers his hand with his trimmed hair, looking like one of those goody two shoes kind of character. “My name is Owen.” Owen, a thin guy with toned arms offers his hand to Jane, after Jane shakes Dwayne’s. Jane feels the firmness of Owen’s handshake, which he could note that Owen is a decent kind of guy if the rule about firm handshakes are to be taken seriously. “I’m Neil. You don’t mind hanging out with us?” Neil,a much thinner person than Owen, with an awkward smile and square framed glasses. “If I did mind I’d be outside. Why I went outside is because I need the fresh air, knowing how stuffy this place can be because of the smoked and the barbeque from the kitchen.” Jane says as he takes a tissue to wipe his nose. “So, like. What’s your hobbies?” Charles asks casually. “I do like poetry on the side. Play the violin, the guitar and I like to go on runs. A nice swim too.” “That’s interesting. So anyway, can you just tell us what you think about Kris?” Dwayne’s question has Kristina hitting his shoulder, to which Jane stops her. “Relax. Why you got to hit Dwayne for? He’s just curious.” “When I saw her, I just think she is Miss Super Serious, Work all the time. Then after a while, I start seeing she’s just like any other girl. She’s cute, she’s a kind soul, she’s also someone that I would recommend a lot of guys to date.” Jane’s answer shocks her, to which Kristina looks at him who smiles to her. Kristina looks away, blushing. “So, you think she’s great?” “Yeah, she is but hey, enough with these questions. You’re making Kristina blush a lot.” Kristina hits Jane’s shoulders, real hard but he does not react to it. “Hey, Jane. Can I ask you, what kind of person is Monty and Reiner?” Scarlett asks. “Monty… For Monty, he can be quiet. If you have good questions, he will answer you but if you’re gonna ask ‘What’s up’ or ‘How are you’. He may or may not answer you truthfully with a typical, ‘I’m okay.’ That dude, is an interesting person to hang out with but make no mistake. Monty and Reiner, they are like me. You guys watch me beat up those guys, Reiner could do a lot worse than me and Monty would be the worst. Worse as in, those guys may be in a hospital. Monty, is a kind soul by nature, but when life throws you a whole lot of bullshit and pain. You get Monty, who keeps his distance with people because he’s just tired of life doing what life does.” Jane pauses for a moment to which Kristina offers her drink to him and Jane takes a sip through the straw. “The Japanese believe that sharing straws is an indirect kiss.” To which Kristina immediately blushes and takes the straw out, while Jane looks at Owen with a raised eyebrow then laughing as Kristina starts acting all embarrassed. “Reiner… Reiner, a gentle giant. He’s friendlier than me as he would actually talk to people and not ignore them like me or Monty. Generally, we prefer being in our circle because we get along really well. We are comfortable with silence which can last for a full day. Like the three of us, when we sit by the living room at Monty’s house. We’d just have beers in hand, maybe a cigarette or harder liquor or something. Then we’d just be quiet for a full 12 hours as we sit in contemplative silence. A bit fuckin’ weird but it’s just how we do things.” Jane tells them, giving them enlightenment on them. “So, are they single?” “Yeah, anyway. Scarlett, do you like. Have a crush on Monty?” Scarlett, looks at Jane unsure to say yes or not. Instead she just nods. “Ah, I see. Hey, he’s a tough one. But he’s patient. You could leave the guy waiting for 6 hours and he would not be angry at you at all. I can’t say much because I don’t want to spoil your surprise when you sit down and talk to him.” Jane tells them, as he looks at Kristina who is slowly leaning closer to Jane. “Jane.. Sorry.” Jane takes off his coat, putting it on Kristina. Then he pulls her chair closer to him, letting her lean on his shoulder. “If you’re tired, just sleep on my shoulder.” Jane tells her as Kristina lies on his shoulder, turning her body facing him. “If all of you want to go, you can leave her with me. I’ll drop her home.” To which her friends nod as they ask Jane questions about his relationship status and stuff. “So Jane, do you like have anyone you fancy right now?” Jane looks aside, unsure of what to say. “I do, but just think that I’m not ready for anything serious right now but. I do like meeting new people.” Jane tells them as he holds his left ring finger. Feeling uneasy about this question, but he knows he may have to face this question in the future sooner or later. For if he were to say he has someone he fancies, would it be true? Or is it because of the close proximity that exists between them? Would he be able to confidently say it’s Kristina without feeling conflicted about Rose? “Oh, really? Who?” There goes the question by Charles, to which Jane looks at them blankly. “Haha, that is for me to know, and for her to find out, Charles.” Jane shoots back, Charles simply nods approvingly while seeing Jane looking at Kristina who is still lying on his shoulder. “She likes you a lot.” Scarlett says to him, much to the surprise of her other friends. “I know, she told me that one night. I don’t know if she remembers that she said that. I just..” Jane pauses, looking at Kristina. Her head leaning on him, her black hair on his chest, Jane adjusts as to let Kristina rest on his chest, ensuring it’s comfortable for her. “One day, I will have to tell her my answer. I’m not sure what I’m feeling as of lately, I forgot what it means to be comfortable with someone.” Jane tells them. “So you..” “I find Kristina to be an amazing girl, she is bold, admirable and hardworking. I don’t know her well, but I can feel that I would like her a lot, but.” Jane’s face looks uneasy, a pained expression takes form. “If my heart is not in the right place, I might hurt Kristina. If I want to accept her affection, I want it to be just her and no one else. Right now, I’m just not ready.” Jane tells them as he looks Scarlett in the eye. “I understand, but just know. She’s been happier lately when she is with you, and I realize that we, the guys. Haven’t exactly been kind to you.” Dwayne tells him to which Jane shakes his head. “Hey, I beat people up on a daily basis and you just watch me beat people up. Not like I blame you for seeing me that way. It’s fair after all, I did beat the baseball team up. Kristina knows why, it’s very personal.” Jane tells them, which gets a nod from them and their attention to every little detail he makes.
