I sat in the cold, sterile cell, my wrists cuffed to the metal table. I couldn't believe it had come to this. One minute I was living my life, and the next I was being accused of being involved in my husband's alleged r**e scheme.
The door to the cell opened, and a woman with a stern expression walked in. She introduced herself as Detective James and explained that she was investigating the allegations against my husband.
But before she could even begin questioning me, the door burst open again and a young woman rushed in. She was shaking and tears streamed down her face.
"Please, you have to listen to me," she begged, her eyes fixed on me. "My name is Katherine, I work for Mr Jaxon's company, and I have proof that you offered me some money to keep mute. He-he tried to r**e me."
My eyes widened in shock as the woman's words hung in the air. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Jaxon, my husband, a r****t? It couldn't be true. Talk more of, Aurora offering to pay her off.
The woman's eyes locked onto mine, filled with a mixture of fear and accusation. "You knew, didn't you? You knew what he was doing and you did nothing to stop him."
I shook my head, trying to process what was happening. "No, that's not true. I had no idea. Jaxon would never..."
But the woman cut me off, her voice rising. "Don't lie to me! I have proof, and I'm going to make sure he pays for what he did to me."
I felt a surge of anger and defensiveness, but before I could respond, Detective James stepped in.
"That's enough," she said firmly. "We'll take your statement, but for now, let's focus on the allegations."
The woman nodded, still shaking, and Detective James led her out of the room. As the door closed behind them, I was left alone with my thoughts.
I have a feeling that someone close to us has a hand in this, why is all this happening?
But my solitude was short-lived. The door opened again, and Jaxon walked in, a smug look on his face.
“Aurora, darling," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "I see you're getting a little too uncomfortable in here. Don't worry, I'll have you out of here in no time."
I narrowed my eyes, my anger and distrust boiling over. "What's going on, Jaxon? What have you done? Why is she calling my name?"
Jaxon chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, Aurora. You are so naive. You have no idea what's going on, do you?"
And with that, he leaned in close, his voice dropping to a whisper. "You're in this deeper than you think, Aurora. Much deeper"
I felt the anger inside me rising as I leaned close to him, “Read my lips, dear husband. I will take myself out of this mess. I don't want to know whatever game you are playing but trust me, you wouldn't want to mess with me.” I replied with a smirk
He frowns his face a bit before heaving a sigh as he sits on the chair opposite me.
“To be honest, I didn't do anything like that. I was surprised myself when I received the calls from some of the board members. Our marriage became suspicious because they thought I married you to cover up for the r**e scheme.” He said as I just stared at him.
I sensed pain in his voice but I wasn't ready for any emotional blackmail.
“Get me out of here is all I want, you sort your business yourself,” I said, keeping a cold face.
“Sure” he replied as he walked out of the room while I let a deep sigh.
I am not letting this slide, whoever is behind this just wants to tarnish my image and that of Jaxon.
I wouldn't have minded if I wasn't dragged into this mess. It's obvious that I objected to this marriage but why does everything have to go wrong amid all this marriage saga?
I lift my head to see who walked into the room.
I glared at Katherine, my anger and frustration boiling over. "How could you do this?" I demanded. "How could you make such a vicious lie about my husband and me?"
She shifted uncomfortably in her seat, avoiding my gaze. "I didn't mean to hurt anyone," she muttered. "I just needed the money."
"Money?" I repeated, my voice rising. "You sold your soul for money? You destroyed my husband's reputation and accused me wrongly for a paycheck?"
Her eyes flashed with defiance, but I could see the guilt and shame lurking beneath the surface. "You don't understand," she said. "I was desperate. I had no other choice."
I move closer to her, my heart pounding with rage. "No other choice?" I repeated.
"You had a choice. You could have told the truth. You could have refused to make the accusation. Do you know what you have caused with your false accusations?"
Katherine's eyes dropped, and she mumbled something under her breath. I leaned in closer, my ears straining to hear. "What was that?" I demanded. "Who paid you to make the accusation?"
Her eyes flicked up to mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of fear. Then, in a voice barely above a whisper, she said, "It was was"
I leaned in closer, my heart pounding with anticipation. "Who?" I demanded. "Tell me!"
Katherine's eyes locked onto mine, and I saw a flash of determination. "It was-" she began.
“You don't have to be scared, Katherine. I promise you nothing will happen to you, just tell me” I said
“It's Sophia”
“She told me to do it” she added
I widen my mouth in shock as I stare at her, everything now clicks perfectly. Her coming to the house was for a purpose, A purpose I will finally get to know.
