Her Future

Chapter Five

October hadnt heard or seen Dean for a few days now and frankly she was getting a little peeved at him for it, who pecks a woman on the lips then disapears after? As annoyed as she was over this matter she couldnt think of it just at the moment because today was her first day of work, she was going to make the best out of it as her heart thudded in her chest on her way into the building. she wasnt sure what today would hold but she hoped she would love it here.

She walked right up to the front desk, "Hi, my name is October Wright. I am here for my first day?" she told the older lady behind the desk.

The elderly woman tipped her glasses down and looked at her over the rims of them, "Ok great, Let me just get Nancy for you, my name is Kathrine i mainly just work the desk here." she replied to her.

Great, so far one person who didnt seem to like her much, October just nodded and had a seat to wait for Nancy Carter, the woman who had hired her over the phone. "Ms. Wright?" she asked as she came out with a smile on her face, and hand extended.

October got up and smiled back taking her hand in a firm shake, "Yes, please just October, or Tobie, or Tober." she said with a laugh.

Nancy smiled at her, "My dont you have many short names." she said while laughing herself.

October blushed and nodded her head with a smile. "Come with me then Tobie, if you insist, i will show you around and we will walk through what we will be doing here." she said to her. October could hardly wait.

A few hours later October was brain overloaded she didnt realize they had so many rescues in the aquarium alone and how many they were soon going to release back out into the wild. she did notice that not many if any were sharks but she was ok with that along with sharks she loved turtles and fish. Nancy had told her for the first few weeks until all the releases were done they would be mainly working in the office and aquarium getting ready for the shark tagging and retrieving that she had told October about over the phone a month ago, and that was the big excitement for her, she had never taken part in the ocean she didnt know how it would feel how scared she would be, this was just a huge leap for her and she couldnt wait to jump.

At the end of her first day they had tagged some recovering sea turtles and a few fish and one very small lemon shark that had a missing dorsle fin, she was told this little lady would be a perminate stay at the aquarium, which didnt bother her at all she wasnt sure how she lost her main fin, but she was indeed a sweet shark if she had to say so herself she just swam up to them and took the food they offered and rested in their hands to be looked at, Nancy had told her that they found her near death near the shore swimming in circles, now she swam like a shark but slower than what they would like her to swim.

October was so exausted from all the information and the paperwork she had to study she went right home and put it on her desk, she had the next day off and she would spend most of tonight and that next day reading about everything there, October had always studied well and wanted to make sure she knew what she was doing all of the time. but for now she was starving it was dinner time and she was going to head over to the Brothers Bar and find out why a grey eyed man has been giving her the slip.

When she walked in she seen what she took as the reason, he was leaning both arms on the bar smiling at a woman in front of him, a woman she might add with big boobs, blond hair and a horrible outfit, is that the type of woman he went for? The thought sickened her, when his gaze lifted up his smile fell and a look of regret found its way to his face. October just raised her brow and walked to a small table near the back of the dinner, straight up ignoring him, if this was the type of man he was he could keep to himself, she thought.

A few moment later Milly walked up to her table and gave her a sad smile. "It his ex sweetie." she said and poored her some coffee.

October raised her brow again glancing at him and the woman laughing again, but she noticed he kept sneaking peaks at her, "I dont really care Milly, he is a grown man, Im just glad i cought it now instead of later." she said to her thanking her for the coffee.

"I wouldnt look to much into it my dear, what do you want to eat?" she asked her.

"Could you just throw a corn beef sandwhich and some chips into a container for me?" October asked her, she didnt want to be in here any longer than planned now.

Milly smiled, "Of corse my dear, ill be right back with that, and today on the house looks like youve had a rough one." she said.

"Just a long one thanks." October said with a small smile looking back out of the window.

Milly let her be, needless to say she was a bit pissed off at her best friend right now, all she wanted was for him to find the right woman instead of all these skanks that come and go especially Ezmirelda, who was his on again off again bull s**t f**k buddy. Milly gave Dean a pissy look and walked back into the back to make the womans sandwich. Tobie seemed like a nice woman, she was smart loved animals and fish she had money, but didnt let it show. and she had come from a hard past anyone could see that on her face, so when Dean walked in after her what he asked just set her off on him.

"Is October alright?" he asked.

Milly turned to him, "No you f*****g asswipe she isnt ok. shes had a long day and I assume she came here to see you not just my pretty face to see you almost sucking face with that trash!"

"C'mon Millz I know you dont like Ez but.."

"Nope! your right i dont like how she strings you along and you fall for it because the b***h has big t**s, shes been here for four days, have you given Tobie an ounce of the attention you have been giving Ez?" she asked him.

When he got the guilty look on his face she was even more pissed. "Of corse not you ass!" she said putting the to go box together and grabbing a bag of chips and a coke for October.

"Millz, she wants to work stuff out. She says she is seriouse this time, f**k the woman almost had my baby, what do you expect me to do?" he asked her.

Milly stopped before leaving the kitchen, "I expect you to not string a long a woman who would be better for you, i expect you to explain to her so she wont hate you when that lieing trash leaves you again, i expect you to pull your head out of your ass Dean. What happend with Tobie before Ez got here? because the look on her face told me all." she said looking at him.

He had already felt guilty enough for the outcomes of that day when he had came home to his ex crying on his porch for his forgiveness, the only woman he was weak for only because she had lost his child, he didnt love her and he didnt think he ever would but he had an obligation he may have been a player but he was no asswhipe when it came to a woman being pregnant with his child. "I kissed her ok." he said to her scratching the back of his neck.

Milly walked right up to his tall frame and smacked the back of his head, "You, my good friend, are a f*****g i***t, i hope it works out with you two, im taking off to have a girls day, you got this." she stated and walked out leaving his mouth gaping wide open.

October watched Milly head over towards her, getting up from the chair she had noticed that the woman looked quiet upset, and the whole time food was being made October kept getting dirty looks from the stripper. "Lets go girl we are having a boos night and then tomorrow we are having a girls day." she said pulling her to the door.

"Alright," not even thinking of all the stuff she had to do, "Hold on Milly, I need to be an ass right now." she said.

Milly smiled and let go of her hand and watched as the woman gained her respect in just a few words, "Thanks for the food Dean have a great night, and a great night to you....miss stripper." she said and walked out with a laughing Milly.

Dean and Ez's mouth were both hanging out, then Dean started to laugh, maybe he had made a mistake, he made a note to visit her here soon and explain himself, maybe even make a friend out of a scorned woman, laughing he looked at Ez who punched his arm with her week fists. "That isnt funny Dean." she said in a wine.

Dean just shrugged, "Dress better." he said and went back to work.

"I cant believe i just said that to them." October said as they walked through her front door.

Milly laughed at her, "I'm glad you did he is being an idiot."

"Are they together?" she asked.

Milly sighed, "Sort of i guess, they have been on and off again since she got pregnant with his child."

October looked shocked like someone had slapped her, "What?!"

"It probably wont last long, he sees as he has a duty to her since she lost the baby. i have no idea why, he doesnt love her." she told October. "I would just wait it out love."

"It doesnt matter i dont have time in my life to wait for a man." she replied. "I have so much work to do, i  mean my boss said i dont have to worry about it today and tomorrow but that is just not me." she said looking at the pile of papers and books on the desk she had yet to go through.

Milly glanced at them also and winced a little. "Well dont be you for a change and just have fun, WITH ME!" she yelled, throwing her hands up in the air, and wiggling her but.

October couldnt help it she laughed. "You are crazy Milly, but also i do believe you are right."

Milly smiled at her, "Damn straight im right, what to do tonight, sleep over and movies and junk food?" she asked October with hope in her eyes.

October smiled, "Most definatly." and they dove right in, after a few hours they both passed out on the couch.

The next day the two women decided to go swimming in the ocean it was a nice 90 degrees outside and the next few days called for rain. They had fun diving for shells and looking at fish, ending that adventure with tanning out in the sun.

When four o'clock came around they decided to head into town for some food, not stopping at the bar, well because they just didnt want to deal with Dean and the stripper. So they chose Pizzariea, sat down with a large pizza and a pint of beer.

"How long have you known Dean," October asked her.

"Our whole lives, when we were younger everyone thought we would end up together but it was just to wierd, though he is a good kisser thats all that ever happened and we decided to just stick to friendship." she replied.

"Is that so, so how come that was the choice?" she asked.

"Well truth be told he is my best friend we were born 2 days apart mothers were collage sisters, blah blah blah. But I've always kinda had a thing for his oldest brother James, he is the chief of police here." she said with a dreamy look in her eye.

October laughed at her, "Then why havent you made a move?"

Milly blushed, "Well, he hasnt really ever paid attention to me, so i just let it go, Then he got married and had a little boy and seemed to be happy though my world was chrushed." she said to her.

"Oh Milly im so sorry." she said. "Dean didnt mention a wife for his brother or a kid." she stated.

Milly's eyes go cold. "Thats because the b***h cheated on him and when he found out she took the boy and left to another city with the man she cheated on him with." 

"Thats awfull." she said to her friend.

"That it is, and after that i think he swore off women, he gets to see his son when she feels like its right for him to and even then he has to leave to go get him only gets him on the weekends and has to take him back to her, its all just heartbreaking." Milly said with a sad look on her face.

"Maybe some day he'll see you, hed be stupid not to." October said to her.

Milly just nodded as a silent sign of a maybe, and they went back to eating.

Later when they were done, "Thanks Milly for today, i needed it." she said to her friend.

Milly smiled at her, " Any time girl." after they said their good byes and October when to clean up the mess they had made the night before, laughing to herself over the messy giggles they had throwing food at each other. she had never had a friend night like this, it was by far one of her best nights.

As she was cleaning up, Percy started to wine by the door, thinking he must have to pee again she let his fast growing and quivering body run out the door, but she heard a deep chuckle and was a little curiouse, with a frown she walked out to see Dean bent down petting the darn dog.

"What are you doing here Dean?" she asked him.

He stood up and looked at her, she was slightly sunburnt bringing out her freckles making his mouth go dry, snap out of it man, he thought to himself. "I just came to clear some things up with you Tober." he said getting closer to her.

October stepped back away from him, "Thats close enough, no need to come in the pup and i are about to go to bed." she said picking up her crying dog.

Dean sighed, "Look October, there is alot of history between me and Ez,." he started.

October rolled her eyes, she didnt want to hear exuses. "I already know Dean, Milly filled me in, and you dont have to worry about anything you have your thing with the stripper and we dont have a thing at all. Really its probably for the best." she said getting ready to walk back inside.

"October, wait." he said coming closer.

"Dont come closer, i do believe i have asked that once before." she stated glaring at him.

"I dont want yo to hate me. I had no intentions of going home the other night to her being here." he said.

"Ok Dean you want to hash this out lets do it, that night you kissed me it may have been a peck but you did, we talked about feeling something for each other before that, then all of a sudden you ghost me, after you kiss me. when i came to find you and find out what i did wrong, i find you flirting with a woman. A woman who you have started to date again, i understand it might not last but you also have to understand my side, i have no want in me to f**k around with another man who cant make up his mind if he wants me or if he wants other women, or if im good enough, or if she is good enough. Look i dont hate you i just think this is a waist of both our times and our breath because nothing you can say will justify what you have done may it be a little thing or not. I hope your happy and i wont hold anything agenst you. But you made this choice and i was burned by it not you or anyone else. So just go home to your woman and leave me be alright?" she had a lot to let out and when she did he looked at her like she had kicked him in the nuts.

"October..." he said, but she didnt let him finnish.

"Good night Dean." she said with a sad smile and shut her front door and locked it.

Relationships were pointless, she thought to herself and took herself and her pup to bed. As they curled up together and she heard Percy's last sigh before he always zonked out, she smiled to herself. she was proud of what she had done just a bit ago. she stood up for herself, something she hadnt done until recently she was happy but she was sad, because after that feather kiss she had started having feelings for the man who had helped her so much in just a few short weeks. she had hoped he would be different, but he wasnt he was just like the rest of the men she knew. soon her eyes closed and dreams over took her, dreams of being trapped by a man who didnt love her and only hurt her. Dreams she never thought she would get rid of.
