October had finally made her choice, she was leaving. she would be traveling thousands of miles in her little Volks Wagon Beatle, that was packed full of only the things she would need and the things she cared the most about. she took one look at her home with her parents and sighed.
Was this the right idea? her parents had said one word to her since she had decided to go. "Its either us or this trip Tober." her father had told her using her nick name, it was either Tobie or Tober, October didnt really care to much, she rolled her eyes at her father, "Dad really this is just ridiculous, you shouldn't be asking me to choose between my family, a job i hate, a man who mistreats me, and a life I'm not ment to live. If I was i wouldnt be as miserable as i am right now!" she told him getting worked up over this same argument. "We are done arguing with you Tober, if you choose to leave don't ever come back." he said looking at her like she was dirt under his shoe.
October stood up and squared her shoulders, "Let that be then Father, Mother, if you truly gave a s**t about my life or me at all you wouldn't try to force me to stay here, just remember in the future you guys chose this by not letting me live my life I am 25 years old now. old enough to go my way and do as I please. and pleasing all of you is getting me no where." she said and walked out of the house.
Her parents never told her they loved her, not when she got straight A's or when she graduated from law school to bring their dream for her alive. She never got the appreciation she worked so hard for, and that was all she wanted from them was to finally see her and accept what she really wanted to do, but she just kept pleasing them, or trying to so she could get something out of her robot parents. Even when her ex-husband Mark, had been mentally and verbally abusing her they said nothing, and the one time he had hit her, her mother told her she needed to find a way to stop making him angry enough to put his hands on her, as if it was her fault. After that she filed for a divorced and moved back in with her parents, and even that was a huge issue with them, as they looked at her as more of a disappointment, than a child in need of her parents.
It would take her a few days to get were she needed to go, driving by car instead of flying but she wanted the drive and the time to do things on the way, this was an adventure! And she would damn well enjoy it, even though she kept thinking about what her parents had said. Was this a big mistake? is she taking a huge leap with this choice to move so far away? as soon as the doubt filled her mind she pushed it aside she didn't give two shits anymore about what her mother and father had said she was going to do this.
She had never been outside of Philly, its always been her home she never went on vacation she always studied and stayed home like a good little girl instead of partying and going to an exotic get away like her friends did. Thinking back now she realized not even her friends cared if she went, that there not being the best of friends she thought she had. She got it, nobody understood why all of a sudden she wanted to just uproot and leave. when she was younger she told her mother she wanted to live by the sea and learn about sea creatures and mythology. Her mother had turned that down faster than she could say please.
But what her mother didn't know was that she took marine biology also while she was in law school, which is another reason why she never traveled, she was always working on school. then after, she was always just working to please her parents and her husband. she didnt know any different.
October chose Newport, because they had a small aquarium there not farm from her fixer upper house, though she didn't think she needed to work for awhile and had enough money to set up the house and to take a year or more off, she did like to work, especially on her passions and swimming with fish and sharks were calling her name, her specialty was in the sharks she was so fascinated, she would swim and interact with them like she always wanted to do. Thinking of her future had a freeing smile appear on her face, she couldnt wait to get there.
A few days and a few hotel stays later she finally drove into the town she would be living at for a good majority of her life from now on. she didnt quiet know were she was going so she pulled over at a gas station and fill up on fuel and get a drink, after doing do and paying she went back to her small car and pulled out her phone, noticing that Mark had called her 37 times and left a few voicemails and text messages, not even caring she deleted all of it with out even reading or listening to them and opened her map app on her phone and typed in her new address from where she was. after a few minutes she had arrived.
October climed out of her car and walked around the small house she had bought about a month ago, the lady was right it needed some work, although the roof looked sound and maybe even new, some windows were broken the paint was chipped, shed have to build a new porch, maybe even one big enough to get some patio furniture to place out for the summer days, which will be starting soon. She sighed and pulled out the keys that were mailed to her and opened the front door.
Inside was much nicer though yes it needed work but nothing to horrible, it looked as though the windows would be easy enough to install from the inside, the floors were a dark wood, she didn't know to much about flooring but to her it looked very nice, the kitchen was small but spacey enough for just her, she would maybe go with a no cabnet look to to make the place look more airy and less cooped up. the bathroom was also small with a claw foot tub and a shower built in, the toilet was old and cracked and she would need a new one also along with a sink and bathroom mirror, she like her bathroom well lighted also so she would install more lights.
Moving to the bedroom she stopped and looked out one of the many windows, it faced the ocean and was slightly open so she could hear the breeze coming through, and she knew thats were the head of her bed would go when she got one. as she walked around the house she got more ideas about how she would have things set up how she would fix it up also, knowing she wouldnt be able to have electricity or plumbing turned on for awhile she locked up looked at the ocean once more and got back into her car and drove to the hotel that was on the main drag.
"Hello! Im Charlotte, do you have a reservation?" she asked as October walked up to the counter.
"I do not, I'm sorry i just moved here like an hour ago, and my place needs more work than i thought and ill need one room one bed for probably a few weeks." she said nervously ranting to the woman smiling at her, she was pretty with light blond hair, tanned skin and a wide smile with bright blue eyes, she was about 5'10 and just cute as a button was Octobers thoughts.
"Thats alright my dear you don't need one I just have to aske, I'll need your ID and a credit card." she said typing on the computer.
October handed her what she needed and paid for two weeks at once. Charlotte looked back at her with a smile, "Why did your parents name you October?" she asked.
With a sad smile October replied to her, "Well truth is, I was a oops baby, and my parents were so annoyed by it they named me after the month I was born." she replied.
"Are you joking right now?" Charlotte asked looking at her with a pained face.
October smiled sadly, "Afraid not."
"Wow I am so sorry, it fits you though very pretty name." she said with a soft voice.
October was pretty sure she was going to like this Charlotte, "It's alright trust me I've heard it enough it doesn't bug me anymore, my nick name is Tobie, you can call me that if you like." she told her.
Charlotte smiled, "Tobie,...I love it!" she said clapping her hands.
October laughed and said her good byes with her keys and made her way to her room, she threw her things on the bed after unloading only what she would need grabbed her purse and keys and headed out the door again, as much as she wanted to rest she wanted her house also, so she was going to walk around the small town and see what she could find.
And what she found was everything she needed she spent alot of money on furniture she would need that they would hold until they knew her place was completed and she got phone numbers to places to call for help on fixing the old place up and looking like a house instead of a run down hut.
As October walked out of the last store for the day she walked into a dinner to get some food, she hadn't eaten all day and she was starving. "Hi what can I get ya?" the waitress at the register asked her.
"Well, I'll just take a burger, fries and a soda." October said and after being told her total handed the girl the exact change.
"It'll be right out," she said and walked off.
October rolled her eyes, guess waitresses here also are rude. she thought as she waited. October had just happened to look over while she waited and her eyes stuck to a pair of grey eyes staring back at her, her breath caught as she looked this man over, he was standing by the window with a few other men and a few women, one of those said women hanging on his arm like a leach, her eyes scanned him from head to toe, he was about 6'4 to her 5'9 and he was built like a Greek god! He had a tattoo that ran from the top of his shoulder to the base of this wrist that was attached to the hand he had in his front pocket.
All she could do was stare at this man he was by far the most sexy man she had ever seen and he was looking right at her, as he smiled at her, her food was delivered as well, October took the food looking at the rude waitress and said her thank you's, then looking back at the grey eyed god, she gave a fake half smile and walked out of the dinner. she didn't need distractions, or another man in her life to tell her what to do and to hit her when she didnt do it right. men were trouble and she wanted nothing to do with them.
As she let herself into her room at the hotel it was about 8 pm and she was tired from the driving and all the running around she did in just a short time, she found that she loved this little place most of the people were very nice and eager to help her. i guess the old house hasnt had anyone living in it for sometime and once the town heard it had been bought theykept waiting for someone to show up and clean the place up.
After she ate she showered and dressed for bed leaving her window open to smell the breeze outside as she slept setting her alarm for 7 am, she had alot she had to do in the morning and she needed to get some sleep. But as she closed her eyes she seen her ex-husband all over again and the pain he had put her through, safe to say tonight wasn't going to be one for resting.
