Chapter 4: The Crippled Prince

"This is just getting more interesting," Aquila muttered to herself as she stared at the crippled prince, being wheeled in by a servant.The courtroom was dead silent as all eyes were on the crippled prince. Aquila stared at him with a neutral look as her eyes followed his every move.Prince Sebastian gazed back at her with a curious and irritated look before looking up at Alpha Maverick."What's going on my lord?" Prince Sebastian asked meekly. His tone was that of respect and fear.Alpha Maverick leaned against his throne, his right hand tapping on the throne's hand as his gaze bore into the calm Aquila, who returned the look fearlessly.There was a great tension in the courtroom and the people were starting to feel uneasy because of all these, even Prince Sebastian was 'scared'.Aquila scoffed at the thought of that. It was no news already, she knew about the infamous crippled prince who couldn't stand up for his rights."This is your new bride," Alpha Maverick said expressionless as his gaze focused on prince Sebastian as he mentioned the word 'bride' to his disgust.Both Aquila and Sebastian frowned and just when he was about to object to this Aquila beat him to it, cutting him short."I never agreed to marry him, my lord. I can never marry a cripple! It's unthinkable!" She stated firmly and the courtroom turned into an uproar!"How dare you!" The elders all got up from their seats in anger as they pointed their fingers at her."Do you know who you are talking to? You dare stand before us speaking to his highness in that manner! You should thank your stars that you were not beheaded when you spouted your first words of here!" A bald head man yelled angrily at her. He flung his blue sleeve as he turned to the calm Alpha Maverick who gave a cold glare which sent shivers down his spine, as he said apologetically."My lord, forgive her. She's so naive! I expected more from the Blue Moon Pack but it seems their princesses lack courtesy and respect!" He bowed along with the 6 elders in the hall each on their blue robes.Alpha Maverick ignored their pleas as he stared at Sebastian who was staring back at him calmly and fearfully." Do you object to her being your mate?" He ordered coldly. It wasn't a request but an order.Prince Sebastian shivered at his words. To the people in the courtroom his behavior and response was an instinct of fear but deep down he knew that was one of disgust and anger."I-" Prince Sebastian was about to reply but a shout interrupted his words and everyone stared at the huge door."Her highness, Lady Beth!" The guard announced and the door opened to reveal a woman dressed in expensive royal robes. Her dark hair was tied up and pinned by a royal heirloom. All the elders and guests stared at her in awe except for Aquila who stared at her with an unsurprised look.Lady Beth stared back at her coldly, piercing gaze filled with glares and then faced Alpha Maverick as she bowed slightly in courtesy."I was informed by my right hand maid that there is an important guest in the Pack and I wonder where the person is? This place is so crowded and intense that I am confused-" She kept on saying but when her eyes met with Alpha Maverick, she recollected her posture and then raised her chin up."What brings you here?" Alpha Maverick asked, his voice cold and gloomy."I can't come to meet my son? After all this involves him," She replied, calmly." Woman, there's nothing for you to worry about. Your son can do things himself, right? Have you thought more about the question I asked you?" He asked Prince Sebastian.The latter shivered slightly then nodded at his question.'Just when I thought my life would get any better, I am struck here with a loser like prince' Aquila thought inwardly as she stared at the duo who were staring at each other without speaking."I've thought about what you said my lord. But, I have to say this. I reject her as my mate or bride or whatever she is," Prince Sebastian said, breaking the silence in the room and everyone turned their gaze on him.They were confused as to why he would reject the order of his father. And at the same time, Wasn't he scared that he might get hurt by his father?The courtroom turned tense as everyone stared at the father and son.Aquila smiled excitedly. Thank goodness he rejected her at least she could go back home."Why?" Alpha Maverick asked, the lines on his forehead deepening."I already have a destined mate. I can't deny her for some stranger," Prince Sebastian said, calmly.Alpha Maverick's gaze left him then to his mother and shot her a questioning look." He speaks the truth," She confirmed. Everyone quickly bowed their heads, scared that one of them might be the one used to satisfy the bloodthirsty Alpha."When has this been?" Alpha Maverick asked. His tone is as calm as a calm sea.The people gulped nervously as they knew he was terribly angry at that moment. If any of them says any word they are going to get themselves killed."I found out about it a day before yesterday and I was in a tight situation to inform you about it," She replied, calmly.Alpha Maverick smiled and everyone felt their souls were about to leave their bodies.What are they going to do now?Aquila stared at the family as anger enveloped her face. She wasn't angry over the fact that he rejected her.But to think that he already has a destined Mate!'Does that mean I'll have to stay here all my life in the dark circle being a rejected princess?'
