EPISODE 19: THE FIRST DARKNESS --- The wedding celebration had turned into a battlefield. Shadow creatures swarmed the palace grounds, their forms twisting and shifting like living nightmares. Guests screamed and scattered, guards fought desperately, and the beautiful decorations that had taken weeks to prepare were trampled underfoot. Chen Chang Sheng stood at the center of the chaos, the Dragon Sword blazing in his hand. Xu You Rong was beside him, her own sword drawn, her eyes blazing with fury. "Who dares attack our wedding?" she demanded, her voice cutting through the noise. The First Darkness stepped forward, its form coalescing from the shadows. It was massive—taller than any man, its body made of pure darkness that seemed to swallow light. Its eyes glowed with a cold, ancient fire. "I have waited a thousand years for this moment," it said, its voice echoing with the weight of eternity. "I have watched the Dragon King's bloodline rise and fall. I have watched you struggle, suffer, sacrifice. And now, at the moment of your greatest joy, I will take everything from you." "You'll take nothing," Chen Chang Sheng said, raising his sword. "I've faced demons, kings, and gods. You're just another shadow to be banished." "Foolish boy." The First Darkness laughed—a cold, hollow sound. "I am not a shadow. I am the source of all shadows. I existed before the first star was born. I will exist after the last star dies. You cannot banish me." "Then I'll destroy you." "You cannot destroy me. But I can destroy everything you love." The First Darkness raised its hand, and a wave of darkness exploded outward. Chen Chang Sheng threw himself in front of Xu You Rong, shielding her with his body. The darkness struck him, sending him crashing to the ground. "Chang Sheng!" Xu You Rong screamed, rushing to his side. "I'm fine." He struggled to his feet, his body aching. "I'm fine." "No, you're not." She helped him up, her face pale with fear. "You're still recovering. You can't fight at full strength." "I don't have a choice." He raised his sword again. "I have to protect you. I have to protect everyone." "Then let me help you." She raised her own sword, and together, they faced the First Darkness. --- The battle raged across the palace grounds. Chen Chang Sheng and Xu You Rong fought side by side, their movements synchronized, their love giving them strength. But the First Darkness was relentless, its power seemingly limitless. "You are strong," it acknowledged, blocking their attacks with ease. "But you are still mortal. Still fragile. Still bound by the limits of flesh and blood." "Maybe," Chen Chang Sheng said, "but we have something you don't." "And what is that?" "Hope." He raised his sword, his voice filled with conviction. "You've existed for eternity, but you've never known hope. You've never known love. You've never known what it means to fight for something greater than yourself." The First Darkness's form flickered, a hint of uncertainty in its ancient eyes. "Hope is an illusion," it said. "Love is a weakness." "Then why are you afraid?" Xu You Rong stepped forward, her voice steady. "If we're so weak, why do you hesitate?" The First Darkness roared with fury, its form expanding. "I do not hesitate! I am the First Darkness! I fear nothing!" "Then prove it." Chen Chang Sheng raised his sword. "Fight us. Really fight us." The First Darkness lunged, its form engulfing them. But before it could strike, a beam of light erupted from the Dragon Sword, piercing through the darkness. "Impossible!" the First Darkness screamed. "How can you—" "The Dragon Sword was forged from the light of creation," Chen Chang Sheng said. "It's the antithesis of everything you are." "Light can be extinguished!" The First Darkness's form surged forward, trying to overwhelm them. "Darkness can never be destroyed!" "Maybe not," Chen Chang Sheng said. "But it can be contained. It can be trapped. It can be forgotten." He raised the sword, and the light exploded outward. --- When the light faded, the First Darkness was gone. But Chen Chang Sheng knew it wasn't defeated. It had retreated, l*****g its wounds, waiting for another opportunity to strike. "He'll be back," he said, his voice heavy. "And next time, he'll be stronger." "Then we'll be ready," Xu You Rong said. "We'll train. We'll prepare. We'll find a way to defeat him permanently." "How? We don't know anything about him. Where he came from, what his weaknesses are, how to stop him." "I know." She reached out and took his hand. "But we've faced impossible odds before. We've always found a way." "Maybe." He sighed. "But this feels different. This feels... bigger." "It is bigger. But that doesn't mean we can't win." --- The palace was in ruins. The wedding celebration was over, replaced by a grim determination to rebuild and prepare. Chen Chang Sheng convened the council, his face grave. "We need information. We need to know everything about the First Darkness." "I might be able to help," Tang Hao said, stepping forward. "Before I was consumed by the Shadow King's darkness, I was a scholar. I studied the ancient texts. I remember reading about a being called the First Darkness." "Tell us." "It was the first thing that existed after creation. The primordial chaos that existed before the gods brought order to the universe. It was imprisoned by the first gods, sealed away in a realm between realms. But over time, the seal weakened. The First Darkness found ways to influence the mortal realm, to corrupt beings, to spread its influence." "How do we stop it?" "The seal. It's the key. If we can strengthen the seal, we can trap the First Darkness again." "And how do we strengthen the seal?" Tang Hao hesitated. "There's a temple. The Temple of the First Gods. It's hidden in the mountains beyond the Northern Wastes. The seal's anchor is there. If we can reach it, we can reinforce it." "And if we can't?" "Then the First Darkness will eventually break free completely. And when it does, there will be nothing that can stop it." --- The journey to the Temple of the First Gods was treacherous. The group traveled through frozen wastelands, across treacherous mountain passes, and through valleys filled with ancient traps. The First Darkness's influence was everywhere, twisting the landscape, corrupting the creatures that lived there. "We're close," Xu You Rong said, her breath misting in the cold air. "I can feel it." "Feel what?" Wu Feng asked. "The seal. It's... pulsing. Like a heartbeat." Chen Chang Sheng felt it too—a faint vibration that seemed to come from the earth itself. It was the seal, struggling to hold back the First Darkness. "Faster," he said. "We need to get there before it's too late." --- They reached the Temple at sunset. It was beautiful—a structure of white stone that seemed to glow in the fading light. The walls were covered in carvings of the first gods, their faces serene and powerful. "The seal is inside," Tang Hao said. "In the central chamber." They entered the Temple, their footsteps echoing in the silence. The air was thick with ancient power, heavy and oppressive. And then they saw it. The seal was a massive circle of light, pulsing with power. But it was cracked—fractured by centuries of the First Darkness's influence. Dark tendrils were seeping through the cracks, spreading across the floor. "Quickly!" Chen Chang Sheng said. "We need to reinforce it before—" "Too late," a voice said. The First Darkness emerged from the shadows, its form more solid than before. It had grown stronger, feeding on the seal's weakening power. "You came to me," it said, its voice filled with triumph. "You walked right into my trap." "This was a trap?" Xu You Rong asked, her hand going to her sword. "Of course. I knew you would try to reinforce the seal. I knew you would come here. And I was ready." "Then why didn't you stop us before?" "Because I wanted you here. I wanted to see your faces when you realized you had failed." The First Darkness laughed. "The seal is beyond repair. The cracks are too deep. In a matter of hours, I will be free—completely free—and there will be nothing you can do to stop me." --- Chen Chang Sheng felt despair wash over him. They had come so far. They had sacrificed so much. And now, it seemed like it was all for nothing. But then he remembered something. Something his master had told him, years ago, on the mountain. *When all seems lost, remember the truth. The truth is always there, even when you can't see it.* The truth. What was the truth? He closed his eyes, reaching out with his mind. He could feel the seal, its power, its connection to the first gods. And he could feel something else—something hidden beneath the surface. "There's a second seal," he said suddenly. "A seal within the seal." "What are you talking about?" Wu Feng demanded. "The first gods didn't just create one seal. They created two. A primary seal and a secondary seal. If the primary seal fails, the secondary seal activates." He opened his eyes. "We need to find the secondary seal." "Where is it?" Xu You Rong asked. "I don't know. But I can sense it. It's close." The First Darkness roared with fury. "Lies! There is no secondary seal! You're trying to trick me!" "I'm not lying." Chen Chang Sheng met its eyes. "But even if I were, what do you have to lose by letting us try? You're going to be free in a matter of hours. What's a few more minutes?" The First Darkness hesitated. And in that moment of hesitation, Chen Chang Sheng acted. He reached out with his power, searching for the secondary seal. He could feel it—faint, hidden, but real. It was beneath the floor, buried in the earth. "Xu You Rong, help me!" he shouted. She rushed to his side, her power joining with his. Together, they reached out, their combined strength unlocking the hidden seal. The floor began to glow. A second circle of light appeared, brighter and purer than the first. "No!" the First Darkness screamed. "No, you can't!" "Your reign of terror ends here," Chen Chang Sheng said. "We will not let you destroy everything we love." He raised the Dragon Sword, channeling all of his power into the secondary seal. The light exploded outward, engulfing the First Darkness. "NOOOOOO!" The scream echoed through the Temple, and then faded into silence. --- When the light faded, the First Darkness was gone. The seal was restored, its power stronger than ever. The Temple was bathed in warm, golden light. "We did it," Xu You Rong breathed. "We actually did it." "We did." Chen Chang Sheng collapsed to his knees, exhausted. "We stopped him." But as he looked at the seal, he felt something else—a sense of foreboding. "The seal is reinforced," he said slowly. "But it won't last forever. Eventually, it will weaken again." "Then we'll reinforce it again. And again. And again." Xu You Rong knelt beside him. "We'll do whatever it takes." "You're right." He smiled, reaching out to touch her face. "We'll do whatever it takes. Together." "Always." ---
