Author's POV
Aiden entered the living room of his grandparents' mansion which exuded opulence, its atmosphere thick with the scent of luxury. Soft, golden light spilled from crystal chandeliers, casting a warm glow on the room's lavish furnishings. Plush, cream-colored carpets silenced every step, while velvet drapes in rich, jewel tones framed the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The walls, adorned with priceless artwork, seemed to whisper tales of the family's illustrious history.
A sleek, black piano stood proudly in one corner, beside a bar stocked with fine liquors and crystal glasses. Two plush, three-seater sofas in rich, burgundy leather faced each other, separated by a polished, mahogany coffee table. The room's centerpiece was a stunning marble fireplace, its mantel adorned with family photos and exquisite antique vases.
Anna, Aiden's grandmother, sat on one sofa, her slender frame wrapped in an elegant, ivory-colored gown. Her silver hair, styled in an elegant bob, framed her heart-shaped face and piercing blue eyes. Her hands, adorned with diamond-studded rings, gestured animatedly as she spoke. Despite her 72 years, Anna's radiant smile and sparkling eyes belied her age, exuding a youthful vitality.
Mathias, Aiden's grandfather, sat beside Anna, his rugged, weathered face a testament to his 75 years. His thick, grey hair was combed back, revealing a prominent forehead and piercing brown eyes that twinkled with warmth. His broad shoulders and sturdy build, even in old age, spoke of a once-athletic physique. He wore a tailored, navy-blue suit, his cufflinks glinting with subtle elegance.
His grandparents, to be frank, his dramatic grandmother called earlier while he was in the office, wanting him to go over, saying she had something of great importance to discuss.
As Aiden entered, Anna's eyes lit up.
"Come, little Deen" she extended a manicured hand, beckoning him to join them.
Little Deen is what his grandmother likes to call him.
He sighed helplessly.
He didn't get to see them the last two weeks as he promised because of the accident and all, and here he is listening, rather than discussing the so-called ' something of great importance '.....
His grandmother has been rambling about settling down, loving life, and grandchildren since the moment he stepped foot in their residence nonstop...
"Mathias, honey, don't you admire the Mickelson?"She asked and giggled like a teenage girl,
To be sincere, Aiden loves her like that, always cheerful and charismatic, not to mention the jokes and constant throwing of tantrums whenever she wants something.
Honestly, she looks like a teenager who has just found her soulmate, always clinging to Mathias with constant pecks on the lips, cheeks, and forehead.
"Mathias!" She smacked his chest with a pout when he didn't respond to her question.
Mathias, on the other hand, was bored and looked at Aiden with pleading eyes; he knew why his wife Anna had called Aiden over, just to show some PDA so that Aiden would get tired and introduce a girl soon.
Aiden dropped his gaze from Anna to Mathias with an amused expression when he saw his grandfather's pleading gaze, silently begging and hoping Aiden would save his ass against his childish wife.
Aiden, on the other hand, is enjoying the show. He is acutely aware of his grandmother's intentions but chooses to play along by watching intently and wearing a fake face that says, 'I am looking forward to having a life partner if I could get this also'.
Great importance!!!
My foot!!!
Fortunately, Anna buys it and trails off excitedly...
"The Mickelsons, honey, they have been very happy ever since their son got married and now, could you believe that they are expecting little legs? "She giggled again while stealing glances at Aiden and nudging her husband sneakily, urging him to join in the act.
Aiden's lips curled up into a slight smile; he could see through her drama...at this point, Mathias had no choice but to comply......
"Ah, yes the Mickelsons, they're expecting you say....." He blurted out, pretending to be surprised about the news.
You see, it's not that he doesn't want little legs running in and out of the massive residence; he wants it. However, he knows better than anyone not to pressure the stubborn head grandchild of his.
Aiden kept watching, but when he heard the words 'little legs' left his grandparent's mouth, he scoffed Internally.
For Pete's sake, who doesn't know what those words imply? Little demons, of course? To him, children are nothing but a keyword for 'endless pressure. '
Suddenly, at the mention of little legs, his mind went to the twins and their mother who is still recovering.
He sighed helplessly. It's been three weeks, and he hasn't set his eyes on them since the attack transpired....
His grandparent's voices dissolved into a gentle hum, a soothing background melody that faded Into the recesses of his mind, as his thoughts drifted to Hazel.
****FlASHBACK*****
After leaving Eric's office that evening, he decided to fill his stomach while Eric and his team went back to the operation room to get everything done before nightfall because it was already six in the evening.
His chauffeur drove to the nearest high-end restaurant, which was Aiden's, so there was no need for reservations; Lewis, his assistant, had already informed the manager.
Aiden stepped into the VIP room of his high-end restaurant, "Elegance," where the aroma of truffles and champagne filled the air.
The room was dimly lit, with soft music playing in the background, and a stunning view of the city skyline through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The table was set with fine china, crystal glasses, and a crisp white tablecloth, adorned with a centerpiece of fresh flowers.
The menu featured the most expensive and exclusive cuisine, crafted by world-renowned chefs.
Aiden was served the signature dish, "Golden Opulence," a combination of seared foie gras, lobster thermidor, and 24K gold leaf, paired with a glass of 1982 Chateau Lafite Rothschild, which is his favorite.
The presentation was impeccable, with each bite a masterful balance of flavors and textures.
As he savored his meal, Aiden sat in a plush, leather-upholstered chair, surrounded by the finest artwork and lavish furnishings. The VIP room was designed to provide an unparalleled dining experience, with personalized service and attention to detail.
After almost an hour, he instructed his chauffeur, Jared, to take him back to the hospital. He finished eating about 30 ago mins but decided to rest for another 30mins.
When he arrived at the hospital, he directly went to Eric's office and sat on a low profile black furniture, situated at the corner of the office.
Just then, Eric burst in, jumping like a ten-year-old who has won the lottery.
"Congrats, man, it was successful, both the mother and the babies are good," Eric said proudly, showing his perfect white teeth, hoping to earn praise, but the latter Just hummed.
"Don't you want to see them?" Asked Eric curiously
"Um um.." he hummed again
Eric ^_^
Is he dumb?
Maybe!
However, Aiden's pain from earlier came back; he clutched his chest tightly, gasping for breath, and clutched the armrest of the cushion he was sitting on.
He knows something is wrong with either Hazel or the twins, or both.......
*********END OF FLASHBACK***********
"Little Deen, are you even listening to what am saying?" Anna's voice pulled him out of his reverie.
