Maria POV
"Your wolf is named Isabella? But I don't understand, why would you not tell me she had spoken to you?" my mom asked, tilting her head to one side.
I sat up slowly, gripping the side of my mattress for stability as the ground swayed slowly beneath me.
"Because my wolf is Bella, mom. She asked me not to tell Harry that the Moon Goddess chose her for me, because he isn't ready yet to hear it. So I figured that I can't tell anyone yet, in case he hears about it from someone that he shouldn't. The only person who he should hear this from, is me." I said, firmly.
She nodded slowly, frowning slightly as she thought things through.
"You're right," she said, " But at the very least we should let your father know. It's his job to keep this pack safe, and he can't do that if he doesn't know what's happening with his own pack members."
"Fine," I sighed, " But can we get this over with before the party starts? Isabella thinks our mate may be here, and in the off chance she's right, I don't want this to ruin the party."
"I've mindlinked him; he's already on his way up here." She nodded.
At that moment, my father knocked on the door. Michelle stood to open it for him, and as he laid eyes on me in my dress, ready for my birthday celebration, his eyes filled with tears and his mouth dropped open in awe.
"You are so beautiful. Look at her Kate! She's absolutely fantastic. She looks just like me, but a girl version!" He said, excitedly.
My mom smiled at him fondly and said " Benny, stop being such a goofball. We need to talk about something serious."
Just like that, my dad dropped to his knees beside me. His face was full of concern, his hands clasping my own tightly.
"What's the matter pumpkin? Did you meet your mate? Oh goddess, he didn't reject you did he? I'll kick his ass, I'll wage war on his pack! Dishonour on him, dishonour on his lands! Dishonour!" My dad dramatically babbled, enraged at the thought of his daughter being wronged.
"Benny." My mom looked at him so sternly, I couldn't help but giggle.
"No, daddy. I haven't met him yet. But I did meet my wolf, and that's what we need to speak about."
"What's the matter sweetheart? Is everything ok?"
Just then, I felt a stinging sensation behind my eyes, and I felt Isabella pushing herself forward. I knew just from watching my dad's reaction, he knew it was my wolf. But instead of speaking to me, he turned to my mom, and then to Michelle, in complete and utter shock.
"Her eyes!" He gasped.
" Bella, walk to the mirror. I wanna see." I urged her.
I stood up, and walked slowly to the mirror. It felt really weird, like an out of body experience. It felt as though I was there, but I wasn't in control.
I stepped up to the mirror, and my hands flew to my mouth in shock. My eyes were silver, and not black. How was that possible? Normally, when a wolf fronts in their human body, the eyes turn completely black. But mine changed to pure metallic silver. I shook my head, and crumpled to the floor.
Isabella retreated, and whined quietly in the recesses of my mind.
"Why are your eyes silver, baby? Do you know?" My dad asked me. He crawled over to me, and put his arms around me as I sat huddled on the floor.
"I guess that's because of who my wolf is, dad. " I whispered. "My wolf, it's Bella. "
I felt his broad arms tense slightly at the shock of what I said, then I lifted my gaze to meet his own.
"Bella?" He said, softly. He was looking at me so intensely, almost as if he could see deep down into my soul. I felt Bella uncurl from her ball of pity and push forward again.
"Uncle Ben." I said, although this voice was different to my own. It was lighter and had a more melodical tune.
He gasped, and fell away from me slightly in shock.
"Before you speak, Uncle, let me explain."
He nodded, crossed his legs on the floor and signalled for my mom and Michelle to join them both. Michelle looked as if she'd birthed a cow, but my mom looked as calm and collected as she always did.
"I'm not allowed to tell you who killed me." Isabella began, " But what I can say, is that the Moon Goddess chose my soul to become a wolf spirit. Maria was always destined to become a sacred wolf, but the Goddess couldn't find a spirit that was just right to take over as Maria began her path. I can't tell you who killed me, because it would interfere with Maria's destiny too much. "
"So now you're gone, but you're not really gone because you're the other half of Maria?" Michelle asked, scrunching her nose in confusion.
"Exactly," Bella nodded. " When Maria shifts, like any normal wolf, I will be there. She will look like me, what my wolf would have been if I had lived."
"Wait," my father interrupted, "What about her eyes? Why aren't they black like ours when our wolves front?"
"I don't know. " Bella answered honestly. "The Moon Goddess didn't tell me everything. If I had to take a guess, I would say it has something to do with Maria's own strength and power as a sacred wolf, but I know that that will be something she will have to discover in her own time. I am only here to guide her, and to keep an eye on my dad."
"Yes... Harry." My dad frowned, biting his lip.
"You can't tell him, yet." Bella said.
My dad reeled back in horror. "You want me to keep this from your father? Have you gone mad, Isabella ?! He's a wreck without you!"
"Exactly. " Bella said calmly. " Outside right now, somewhere on the grounds, is our mate. Can you imagine laying this on my dad right now, when he was already heartbroken at the possibility of losing Maria to her mate tonight? Could you imagine how much worse he would feel, knowing he was actually losing me again too?"
My dad was clearly lost at her words. He kept shaking his head side to side, as if he had water trapped in his ears and he couldn't quite believe what he was hearing.
" She's right, Benny." My mother spoke up. "Harry has been having an awful time with his grief, and you know as well as I do he is reluctant to let Maria go."
My dad sighed, and put his hands in his face. He looked so helpless, that I couldn't stop myself.
"Let's just keep it to ourselves tonight," I said, " And then we can tell him in the morning, when almost everyone has left, and he has time to process."
This time, even my mother gasped.
"What?" I asked, quizzically.
"Your eyes, pumpkin. Now you have one silver, one emerald." My dad stared at me, and reached his hand out to my cheek.
"That would be one of her blessings," Just then, Isabella spoke up. "We can communicate with eachother outloud. It's actually pretty handy in situations like this. Because Maria is an Emerald wolf, she will have been blessed with lots of gifts that will change her life entirely."
