Chapter 22

Maria POV Jase arrived pretty quickly to the pack hospital, scanning the room for me the moment he came through the door. We made eye contact, and I ran towards him. His arms wrapped around me as he lifted me into the biggest hug, pulling me up from the ground. I couldn’t hold it any longer, and burst into tears. The thought of telling Jase how our mom had betrayed us was too much, but I knew I owed it to him. Bella was as much his friend as she was mine, and we were so close she was basically our sister. He put me down, and I stepped back, wiping my face. His green eyes were a mirror of my own, but whilst mine were filled with sadness, his were filled with concern. “Maz?” He asked me, “What’s going on?” Just then, Dr Jenkins left our mom’s room, interrupting the thoughts forming in my mind. “Luna Maria,” he said warmly. “Welcome back. Exam room 3 is ready for you, if you could please follow me.” Crap. I’d forgotten about finishing up this mornings exam. I looked to Jake, who stood to his feet, ready to follow Dr Jenkins. “Come with us.” I told him. “I need to finish my exam with Dr Jenkins, then I’ll be free to tell you.” He nodded, and followed us to exam room 3. Once we were there, Dr Jenkins closed the door quietly. Jase sat on the visitors chair, and Jake took his seat next to me on the bed. “How are we feeling, Luna ?” Dr Jenkins asked me. “ I’m hungry.” I answered, honestly. “ I missed lunch.” “Ah, not good.” He said, chuckling gently. I smiled at him weakly, wondering what was coming. “So, Luna Maria.” Dr Jenkins began. “I’m sure you’re aware by now that you’re an Emerald wolf.” “Yes, Doctor.” I answered. “Although I don’t entirely know what that means.” I shrugged. “Well, from what I understand, you’re a blessed wolf. You will have magical qualities gifted to you by the goddesses themselves, and being that you are a goddess’s child, you will gain more power once your mother bestows her gifts upon you. You will then take her place as an Emerald Wolf Goddess.” I gasped in shock. “I have to take her place? What does that even mean?” I asked him, frantically. “Relax, Luna. It’s not as bad as it sounds.” He reassured me. “I can’t leave now!” I shouted. “I just found my mate, I’m about to become Luna! I can’t leave my family!” I became hysterical. “Maria, stop.” Jake soothed me. “Listen to what he has to say, we can work through anything together.” I gulped the air like a fish out of water, my cheeks burning and tears threatening to spill at any moment. “Thank you, Alpha.” Dr Jenkins continued. “ I’m sorry for alarming you, Luna. What I meant to say, was that you don’t have to leave your pack. You can choose to be an Emerald wolf Goddess and live amongst your pack. You merely adopt the full qualities of an emerald wolf, the full powers. You can learn to harness those magical qualities, and use them affectively.” I began to breathe a bit more normally, and the room stopped suffocating me. “So, essentially, she’s not a full power Emerald Wolf yet?” Jake asked. “No, not yet. At the end of the this week, the full moon rises. That is when Luna and Alpha Ben will be handing over their titles, and when Luna Kate will hand over your full gifts. The ceremonies very are much the same, but by the time you complete your first shift, you will be an Emerald wolf Goddess.” Dr Jenkins explained. “So what kind of powers can I expect to receive?” I asked him, curiously. “Well, that varies from wolf to wolf. It is said that you cannot receive powers you already possess, so whatever powers your mother gives to you will be ones you don’t currently own. You’ve already demonstrated the power of healing, and telekinesis. I know the powers your mother possesses, if that is also something that interests you.” He answered me. I perked up. Of course I wanted to know, but I didn’t want to find out if it posed a risk to my pack, both of them. “It’s ok, Maria. You need to know. I support that.” Jase spoke up, earnestly. “Tell me, Doctor.” I asked. “Well, I don’t know if you’re aware, but your mom can control people’s emotions. She can calm them down, and sooth their souls. But she can also make them angry, hurt, tired. I’ve never seen her use her powers to make people hurt, but I have witnessed her calming them. She also possesses a memory charm; she can alter a version of events in a persons mind, and make them see whatever she wants them to see. She also possesses the power of telekinesis like yourself; but she can also teleport.”he said, calmly. “Well that explains how she sneaks up on people so quietly.” Jake chuckled to himself. I nodded, deep in thought. It made sense now that she managed to cover Bella’s death so well, given that she was able to make everyone, including my dad believe that she had been hit by a passing car. “One more thing, Doctor Jenkins. What can you tell me about Bella’s birth and her parents?” I asked. My question seemed to surprise him, as his eyes opened widely in shock. “Why, Maria. You know that Bella’s mother, Lacey was a Beta, and Harry, he is also a Beta.” He answered. “Yes,” I said, “ but what about her birth? Who delivered her?” “ I don’t remember, Maria. That’s something I would have to dig up out of her files, which I’m sure you’re aware have been moved to the deceased section of the filing floor.” He said. “So you’re saying you didn’t deliver her?” I asked him, watching for his reaction. “No,” he said, frowning slightly. “ I don’t believe I did.” “Who delivered me?” I asked, catching him off guard. “Well, I did, of course. I delivered you and your brother.” He answered proudly. Jake looked at me, quizzically. He knew there must be a reason I was asking these questions. “I think Bella may have been my half sibling.” I linked him. His eyes widened in shock, but he didn’t say anything, keeping his mouth shut. Because we weren’t marked, he couldn’t answer my links, but I knew he had a million and one questions. “Doctor, is there anything else I need to know? I asked him. “Yes; whilst I have knowledge of Emerald wolves, my knowledge is very limited. If you want to know more about your kind, you will have to speak to your mother, or track down other Emerald wolves.” I nodded. “Thank you, Doctor. Please let me know once you’ve managed to find Bella’s files.” He smiled kindly, then shook Jake’s hand before bowing to Jase and leaving the room. I turned to Jase, who by now was looking incredibly confused. “Alright, Maz. What the f**k is going on?” He asked me, a frazzled look across his face. “Well, where to begin.” I replied.
