Chapter 2: In love with Robin

1311 Words
TAMMY *7 years ago. Cont* The dinner turns out well and I end up crushing on Robin even more. He hasn't made any advances yet but I know deep down he loves me. The drive back home is full of laughter. He insists on driving me home and making sure I'm safe. The little wine he made me drink is taking a toll on me and I'm already tipsy. He parks in front of the storey building where I've rented my single room. It's almost midnight and neighbours can't stop stretching their necks to see who has visited me that late. To be sincere, I've never allowed any man in my house at all. That doesn't mean I'm a virgin. Hell no! I've had a fare share of boyfriends who end up breaking my heart badly. Currently, I'm keeping it low key because I'm tired of being heartbroken. I'm adamant to let Robin inside the house but all the same, he ends up getting in. He makes himself on the dilapidated couch as I throw myself on bed. I can't wait for him to leave so that I may snore all the way to slumber land. “Tammy.” He fondly calls me as I set my alarm. “Mmmh.” I reply amid yawns. “Why do you live in this kind of environment?” His voice is full of concern. “Dad told me he offered you a room in our house but you refused. Why?” “Because I want to be independent. Besides, your dad pats me good enough to sustain me here.” I defend myself. “Here? In this dingy hole? Come one Tammy, you deserve better!” “Robin, I won't allow you to insult me in my own house. What's wrong with you rich people? You think everything revolves around your world? This dingy hole as you call it has been home for the past one year. You either respect it or leave my house!” I'm ready to spit venom. I don't allow him to disrespect me in my own house. Never! He raised his hands up in surrender. “I'm so sorry Tammy. I didn't mean any harm. All I want is for you to be comfortable. To live in a better place. Allow me to change your live tammy.” He says. “My life is good already. At least I'm not complaining, am I? I appreciate the fact that your dad collected me from the streets and made me who I am today. Though i don't have any college education but I'm cool the way I am!” I continue defending myself. “Aren't you a hard but to c***k?” He shakes his head. “Anyway, I'll leave you to sleep. Let's meet tomorrow in the office.” I yawn once again. I'm already sleepy. “Show yourself out Mr life changer!” He laughs softly as he opens the door to leave. “Goodnight tamara.” “Good night too!” My eyes are heavy with sleep as I lock my door. I slump on the bed and pull over the covers. I have never stayed that late without sleeping. I don't want to be late for work and the sleep doesn't disappoint me because I'm snoring to slumber land a few minutes later. ***** I wake up to someone knocking continuously at my door. I check my phone and I'm surprised to find out that it's not yet my waking up time. I had freaked out thinking my alarm had failed me. The knock is becoming persistent and I walk to the door, unlocking it and pulling it open. “You again?” I exclaim. “Can't you let me enjoy my morning sleep or has this become the office you were talking about?” I ask angrily. I don't like people cutting my sleep short. He's beginning to annoy the hell out of me! He walks past me without a word and sits on the couch. His strong cologne gets into my nostrils and I inhale deeply. He's already dressed and ready for the day. “I couldn't sleep well last night.” He says. Neither could I.. you know why? You cut my sweet sleep short. Loudly I say. “What brings you here this early Robin?” “As I said before, I couldn't get enough sleep. And you know why?” He asks and looks at me, as if expecting an answer. “Because you love your father's cyber cafe and you want to make your dad proud and...” “Come on Tammy! Leave my dad out of this conversation. He's already proud of me for Christ's sake. I'm here because I thought of you all the night and I have this urge to reform your life and make it better!” “And as I said yesterday Mr life reformer, I love my life as it is. I don't want stress.” I still maintain my stand. “I don't mean any harm Tammy. With time you'll understand that my intentions are pure. How about freshening up. We can pass by the restaurant and have breakfast before going to the office.” That seems like a mouth watering idea. I'm in! “You should have said that before now? Make yourself comfortable as I get ready.” Free meals can't pass me! Hell no! Within no time, I'm ready and I'm surprised to find him making my bed when I return from the public bathrooms outside. I smile inwards and promise myself not to continue being so hard on him. Maybe he means well for me. We hit the road minutes later and I find myself apologising for being harsh on him. He shrugs it off as nothing and continues driving. We pass by the best restaurant I know and enter a leafy suburb. I wonder which restaurants are in the estates. However, I keep mum and wait for him to take me wherever he wants to. We arrive at a huge gate and he hoots and a gateman opens the gate for him. He drives right in and I'm surprised to come face to face with a huge house. I'm sure this is what people call mansions. The last house I saw which is close to this one in magnificence is his dad's! “Why are we here?” I ask, still in awe. “To have breakfast...” “Here? This is a residential house!” He opens his door and gets out as I do the same. I lean on the car still confused and upon noticing my confusion, he comes to my side and holds me by my waist. I find it hard to resist him therefore I melt in his touch. Three more cars are lined up in the garage and a young man in uniform is washing them. Robin leads me to the front door and pushes it open. Loh and behold! The sight in front of me is to die for. We're facing a huge living room with magnificent couches all round and several glass tables at the centre. He notices my naivety and he heads me to one of the couches. He tells me to make myself comfortable and he leaves me and walks towards another room. He goes out with a packet of juice and two glasses then leads me to another space where there's a huge table and several seats. I quickly conclude that it's the dining room. I sit on one of the chairs and he sits beside me. I'm still tongue tied, wishing that someone could wake me up from my slumber. “Welcome to my humble abode Tammy!” He speaks for the first time since we got into the house. I'm sure he was waiting for me to ingest the shock! “T...tha...thank you.” I finally manage to say. “Cassandra is serving us breakfast in a few.” And I thought the surprise was over! Boom. Casandra appears. She's clad in a chef's uniform and my shock triples. I still though Robin lives with his dad! I didn't imagine he lived on his own...in a castle! “Welcome ma'. Welcome sir!” She says in the politest manner possible as she lays the breakfast test on the table. There, I see a variety of mouth watering snacks and my stomach immediately starts grumbling. Here, were using fork and knife unlike my usual feeding schedule where I use a spoon or my bare hands. If this is the life Robin was talking about, I'm surely falling for him damn!
