The warmth of his fingers against her wrist made Elodie's heart jump. Trying to remain composed, she slowly turned back. "Wh-what is it?"
Evander watched her for a moment, then smiled. "Be careful."
"You too." She withdrew her hand as naturally as she could and nodded slightly. "Good night."
He noticed her caution but didn't seem to mind. Still composed, he added, "And I enjoyed tonight."
Each word struck her heart like a drumbeat.
She didn't know what had pleased him, and he didn't explain. "Get some rest. Good night."
Keeping her expression neutral, she pressed her lips together in a faint smile and turned away.
She got out, closed the door, and walked quickly toward the entrance of Crestwood Hills without looking back. Her slight figure receded into the distance.
