Once Damian stripped off her clothes, Elodie's thoughts dissolved into confusion and panic. She could locate him by the glow of his cigarette. Though she knew he couldn't see in the dark, she stared toward him with wide eyes and struggled to cry out through the gag. He acted as though he couldn't perceive any of her resistance. Smoking leisurely, he listened to her furious protests and finally felt an indefinable satisfaction. Remembering her earlier words, he scoffed inwardly.
