Elise is Eighteen.
Elise was biting back a laugh as Alexander kept changing his shirt for his birthday party. He was so nervous it was adorable. Melanie had asked her about her outfit yesterday. She’d picked out a really cute one. She might have changed her mind about it as much as Alexander had, but she’d just showed me the one. I couldn’t believe this was finally going to happen. Melanie and Alexander were meeting. I couldn’t even blame him for being nervous. Hell….I was nervous for them both. It was so exciting. I was beyond convinced they were mates. The only thing that would’ve made today perfect was Cassie being here. The triplets' birthday party was supposed to be on their actual birthday, but with Cassie going dark….they’d decided to postpone it. Melanie had been inconsolable. She’d been ready to go when I called to tell her. She understood though. She was just sad. She’d shut herself in her room until I came home later that night. My phone lit up. I smiled seeing who was calling. It was Melanie. I was out and went into EJ’s room. I jumped on the bed laying down and accepted the call.
I smiled, “Hi Mel are you on your way?” Melanie was sobbing, “I hate them! Why do they do this to me?” I frowned, “You hate who?” Melanie cried “All the stupid border patrol people and Charline! She’s the devil!” I was getting a very bad feeling, “Ladybug….what happened?” Melanie cried, “They lied again. They said I crossed our border….the new one since we took over Two Peaks. I didn’t Elise! I didn’t even leave my room much today because I was afraid this would happen. I only left for an hour. One hour to dance my nerves away. I should’ve stayed in my room. Why didn’t I stay in my room? Charline found me and dared me to cross. I told her in her dreams b***h and came home. Then they said I did it anyway.” I frowned, “No one would believe Charline.” Melanie cried, “They believe the warriors. Why do they do this to me? I didn’t do anything to them. They all even look like they feel sorry they had to report it….but I didn’t do it. I swear!” I sighed, “I believe you. I’ll call my dad.” Melanie kept crying, “They already left. Only Tristan is here because he’s doing something for dad. He believes me. Dad wants to but….why are they lying Elise? I just want to meet my Xander. I saved my allowance for six months to get his present. I just wanted to give it to him in person. It’s a special birthday for an Alpha...I wanted everything to be perfect. It was perfect and they ruined it!” I wiped some stray tears away. I whispered, “I’ll find out Mel.”
She cried, “They hate me. Why are they doing this to me? They ruin every chance I have! There were ten of them this time Elise. TEN! Mom and dad asked why I did it. I told them I didn’t. I could see they were so conflicted! They want to believe me. They just don’t know what to do. Why do the Conners have that stupid emergency rule? I’m really going to have to go to New York and create a stupid emergency to meet my Xander!” I winced, “Let’s call that Plan D.” Melanie snorted, “It’s plan Z but A-Y hasn’t worked. I'll go to New York if I have to. I could win that dance competition in my sleep. I just….” She started full on sobbing. I couldn’t stop my own tears. This was so dang frustrating. Why did this keep happening? I asked, “Are you ok?” Melanie was hiccupping. She said, “No...I just….why are they keeping me from him? It’s not fair. It’s his eighteenth birthday. That’s a big one for wolves and Alpha’s. I just want to be there for him. Why can’t I?” I whispered, “I don’t know Mel. We’ll figure it out.” She cried, “I figured it out. I have to go thousands of miles away from everyone I love to meet My Xander. I’m scared, Elise. That’s so far away from everyone, but…..but what if it’s the only way to meet him? I don’t think I want to go.” I sighed, “You can’t miss my Luna ceremony. Alexander will be there too. EJ and I will work out when that will be. You just have to come.” Melanie whispered, “I won’t leave the damn house the whole day.” I laughed, “See….Plan C forms.” Melanie snorted, “It’s plan Y and you know it. I want to meet him so badly Elise.”
I closed my eyes, “I know that you do. I don’t know why this keeps happening.” She sighed, “I’ve never crossed our border without permission. Never. Maybe I should if people just keep accusing me of it.” I sighed, “Don’t do that.” She sniffled, “Why not? Everyone thinks I do it anyway. Might as well actually do it.” I told her, “That will just get you in more trouble than you are now.” Melanie cried, “What does it matter? I still don’t get to meet my Xander.” I bit my lip, “You will one day Ladybug.” She sighed, “Maybe.” I said, “Hey….don’t lose hope. We’ve got two plans. I’m sure we will come up with more.” Melanie sighed, “We’ve run out of the Alphabet letters to make plans.” I laughed, “We’ll switch to operation names like the Hackura do. Ok?” Melanie said, “Ok.” I told her, “I’m going to call my dad.” Melanie whispered, “Ok. Love you Elise.” I smiled at the phone, “Love you too Ladybug.”
I immediately called my dad and got his voicemail. I left him a message, “Dad….come on you know this is bullshit! Call me back.” I hung up and winced. I didn’t want to go tell EJ and Alexander. I willed my dad to call me back so I could stall a little longer. It didn’t work. I didn’t want Alexander to find out when their group showed up and she wasn’t with them. I just didn't want to be the person to completely ruin his whole day. The poor guy had changed his shirt fifteen times. I sighed and walked back into the room. I winced and a few tears slipped out of my eyes. Alexander had changed into a sixteenth shirt. It was the color of Melanie’s eyes. I’d heard him subtly ask Jason about her eye color. Everyone talked about them. Alexander smiled when he saw me, but quickly became concerned. I wiped tears from my eyes. I hated this for both of them. My phone rang. Really dad? Worst timing ever.
EJ wrapped me in his arms, and I answered the call. My dad immediately said, “I know but there’s nothing I could do.” I told my dad it wasn’t fair. He knew why Melanie wouldn’t cross the border today. He knows she loves Alexander. She just wanted to meet him. My dad sighed, “Elise….they wouldn’t lie to us. They didn’t even want to report it. They just had to. Why would they do that if they weren’t sure?” I screamed annoyed. I told him he knew it wasn’t true. My dad sighed, “Elise...there is nothing I can do. She’s Drake’s daughter. They think she’s rebelling because they keep her on a tight leash. It’s not as if it’s the most off the wall out there thought either. Plenty of kids do that. They keep her on a tight leash.” I got annoyed. Arguing with him wasn’t going to get me anywhere. I needed to figure this out. It was overdue that someone figured it out. I hung up on my dad. I’d probably pay for that later. I was just so annoyed.
Alexander was angry. I didn’t need a bond with him to see that. His wolf was close to the surface. EJ was going to try to talk to him. I decided to just tell him the truth. Melanie was grounded and she was devastated. Her name made him stop shaking. EJ asked what had happened. I explained it all to them from the border patrol to Charline. No one believed Charline though. Why she even bothered, I’ll never know. I knew my dad was having her monitored. I just didn’t know why. I also knew she had no clue. She was jealous of Melanie she couldn’t see straight. She believed she was smarter than Melanie which couldn’t be further from the truth. I told EJ I didn’t understand this entire thing. It was always different patrols. It wasn’t even as if it was the same group of people. We’d even brought Cassie in the last time. Of course she couldn’t get there until after Melanie had left for a dance competition. The warriors truly believed they saw her. I just didn’t get it.
Alexander was leaving. I wanted to reach out to him. I felt as if he was my own brother. I only held back because his wolf was close to the surface. Unlike EJ….my presence wouldn’t really comfort his wolf. It seemed like both he and his wolf were upset. EJ asked where he was going. I could’ve told him. Where Alexander always goes. Their Uncle Bjourn. EJ told him to come back for the party. Alexander looked as if he couldn't’ have been less interested in the party he’d just been changing his shirt sixteen times for. Why couldn't he just admit his feelings to us? I knew it bothered EJ. EJ pointed out Cassie could show up and that their mom worked really hard on it. EJ even threw in Angela. Those boys were wrapped around Cassie and Angela’s fingers. They would never do anything that could possibly hurt their feelings. Alexander replied that if Angela didn’t think he’d be here for the party she’d be in here convincing him. He was right and wrong. If Angela saw how upset he was…..she’d let him calm down then beg him to come to the party. He told EJ he just needed... then he paused. I nearly groaned. He was going to say space. I could tell EJ was ready to blow a gasket. He told Alexander he was running out of space. This was heading into a huge blow up.
If we could just get them to meet this would all be over. They were both so upset. I hated this. I hated how upset Melanie was. The second Alexander popped away I started sobbing. EJ held me telling me it was ok. Was it? What the hell was going on? Why couldn't anything just work out the way we planned with those two? It was as if some cosmic force was blocking us at every turn. That was ridiculous though. The moon goddess would want them to meet. Alexander even had a god and two goddesses with his DNA on his side. We should have the stars aligning for them just like they did with EJ and me. Why was this so goddamn hard? I blamed myself. I should’ve just stayed with her today. They wouldn’t dare say the both of us were lying. I’d have no reason to lie. EJ said we’d get it figured out. I snapped. How were we going to do that? We’d been trying. I kept telling Melanie we’d get it figured out, but now...I just don’t know. EJ pointed out Cassie hadn’t talked to Melanie yet. Cassie was so busy now. Her life….was on its own path. EJ agreed something was going on with the entire situation.
My heart broke for Alexander. EJ’s dad walked in. He looked tense. He explained their mom had felt him and popped to him, but he was already in the gym working out his frustrations. Eric said they were worried. EJ was a little bitter when he said he didn’t officially know. I just didn’t know why Alexander wouldn’t admit it. Was it because of her age? I shrugged. He’d tell us when he was ready. EJ told Eric that Melanie was grounded. Their dad’s eyes almost bugged out of his head. He asked if it was the border crossing. I couldn’t stop myself from sneering that Charline dared her. I hated that b***h. If she showed up tonight….I’d deck her a good one. Eric said no one would believe her since she and Melanie fight a lot. Of course he knew. Eric knew a lot of things. I sighed. He was right. That’s not why she got grounded but the warriors said they saw her. Eric didn’t think she did. I could see it in his eyes. He must know that Melanie liked Alexander. He’d had to have heard about the wolf she still carried around. He was smart. He’d figure out all the pieces. There was no way he didn’t know about Alexander’s feelings. I just wonder if Alexander told someone at least. He needed someone to talk to.
EJ pulled me out of my thoughts by asking his dad what was going on. Eric said he didn’t know. He said he couldn’t tell someone else how to parent their kid. He looked particularly frustrated by that point. Like he wanted to, but he wasn’t going to. He said he’d gathered photos for us to look through. He honestly looked frustrated; he couldn’t look into it himself, but he’d never met her. Hope started to fill me again. Maybe we could do this. Maybe the key was there. A girl who looked like Mel. I’d never met anyone who looked like her, but it was possible. Maybe from the back….Black hair wasn’t uncommon. Maybe they were just seeing her from behind and assuming it was Mel...that could work. I could tell even EJ was hopeful about this plan. Eric still seemed frustrated saying it was all he could do right now. He was hopeful we could find something so we could have a birthday dinner when Cassie got back and invited Melanie. That would make her so happy. The disappointment from earlier was still there, but I felt better with a plan. EJ didn’t like that Cassie wasn’t going to be back. Eric didn’t seem overly happy about it, but admitted Angela said Cassie was fine. Of course she was. Did everyone forget who was with her?
EJ offered to delay the party again for his siblings. Eric told him Angela said the party had to happen today. I smiled. I wondered what little Angela was up to. They didn’t seem to see it, but Angela already ran the board. She would make paths happen with her sight. It was absolutely adorable. We tried asking her about Alexander’s mate, but she’d get really frustrated. She said it’s blurry. She didn’t understand why. I’m going to get back on cosmic intervention kick with this crap. EJ walked us to his room. My thoughts were swirling. Was it actually a bigger conspiracy? Who would care? Why would they care? What does Melanie not meeting the bigger group of our allies even do? No one could possibly care about that….right? Because it wasn’t just Alexander. Only EJ had met her. That was weird at this point. She was thirteen. I’d known all these people for as long as I could remember. So had Tristan and Jason. EJ brought me out of my thoughts telling me it would be ok. I was being ridiculous. That didn’t even make sense. I looked up at him. I loved him so much.
He kissed me. I desperately wanted to feel him inside me. Why did this stupid party have to happen anymore? I had to pull away or we’d get lost in each other. We did that a lot. We lost track of a lot of time when we were together. EJ gave me his signature smirk. God it was embarrassing how wet that look got me. He told me had time. He pushed me back onto his bed. Not roughly but authoritatively. It wasn’t fair how mouthwateringly hot he was. EJ snapped us naked. That was so handy. I wished I could do that. He toyed with my marking spot. Rhea sighed, “Just tell him to mark us. Be a rebel girl. Look at how hot he is.” I snorted, “You’ve been saying that for two years.” Rhea purred, “He got hotter every day.” She wasn’t wrong. EJ whispered into my ear in the sexiest voice I’d ever heard that I’d be officially his soon. That he’d mark me and never let me go. Rhea purred, “Oh come on Elise...Be a bad girl….I’ll take over for you and do it.” I snorted, “He wouldn’t do it.” Rhea sighed, “He’s so perfect…..he just needs to be a bad boy. For a moment. Use those wiles of your Elise Kyle.” I snorted, “Soon.” Rhea sighed, “Oh fine.” He entered a finger into me. I could feel his smirk against my ear as he said I was so wet for him.
Was that surprising? Did the man never look in a mirror? Then he talks about marking me and in that tone….It’s just...unfair is what it is. He entered me in one thrust of his hips. God I saw stars when he did that. He yanked me to the end of the bed and gripped my hips. I wrapped my legs around his butt. I lost myself in the sensations of us. Rhea purred, “It will feel even better once we turn eighteen. We already have sensations...but when the mate bond kicks in GIRL. He’s going to kill us. I’m ready. SO READY! Death by orgasm. Not a bad way to go...but you can’t actually die Elise. I’m loving life this time around. Look at the sexy man candy. God...I love it here. I have been promised centuries. I want centuries. No actual dying.” I screamed out my orgasm. EJ followed me. I stared into his eyes as he thrusted slowly a few more times.
He kissed me and told me he loved how I looked after I came. I blushed. Rhea snorted, “He should get a mirror. You’re right. Is he trying to start another round? I’ll jump him Elise...I’ll do it. Put me in girl!” EJ trailed his fingertips over my skin saying he loved that I still blush when he says things like that. He said I was his. I growled. He was mine too. He reaffirmed that. I wasn’t surprised when someone knocked on his door. Max was telling us to come down. Rhea sighed, “When that boy finds his mate...imma knock on his door at random time and interrupt.” I smirked, “Don’t do that.” She linked back, “Oh….imma do it Elise. We could be having round two. There is no knock blocking. Knock blocking can be returned. I WILL fight fire with fire.” I smiled. I loved my wolf. She was so much fun. Rhea snorted, “Of course I am.” I nearly laughed when Max said he didn’t want to go to Alexander with how angry he felt. I didn’t imagine any of them did. They needed Haley, Angela, or Cassie to go to him. I’d pick Angela personally. Haley respected people’s space. Angela would just pop up and try to fix everything. Plus she had the cutest little face.
EJ started laughing. Ugh. I couldn’t wait until I could link him and the people in this pack. I just knew the things his siblings didn’t say out loud were funny. EJ got up and snapped us dressed and clean. I’d still smell like him. He’d smell like me too. Which was good. Rhea growled. We had to get on some girls last year at their party. This year would probably not be an exception. EJ snapped me into my outfit. It was a white spaghetti strap crop top and a navy and silver short skirt. He teased me that I was trying to kill him. I told him I might try that another time. I’d been looking at some skimpy lingerie online. I knew EJ would die. He never cared about what I was wearing but….the look on his face would be worth it. He ripped my red bra and matching thong to pieces when I’d worn it for Christmas. I shivered at the memory. EJ grabbed my hand and popped me downstairs. He nearly fell. I turned back to see his eyes blazing. I looked around. All the Conner’s siblings' eyes were blazing. Even Angela. Oh no. Alexander. What happened now? All of them quickly got their eyes under control. EJ kissed me and told me he’d be back.
I watched him walk out the back door. I frowned. Jason asked, “Hey...where did EJ go?” I shrugged. Jason said, “Ok….Where’s Alexander?” Preston snorted, “Beating the crap of something or someone....somewhere that is not here.” Jason frowned, “Uh why?” I sighed annoyed, “Jason….get a clue.” I was over it. He stared at me surprised. My dad linked me, “It’s not his fault.” I linked back, “It’s someone’s.” Jason said, “Whoa...does everyone know this is a party? Too many tense people are around here for a party.” I rolled my eyes, “Not everyone is here though….are they?” Jason shut up immediately. He looked like he felt bad. He sighed and followed Tristan out the door. Tristan linked me, “I know it sucks but…” I linked back, “It more than sucks. I’m over it T. I’m so over it. She called me crying.” Tristan visibly winced. Drake asked, “You ok Elise?” I said, “No.” Then I walked away. Getting into this here wasn’t what I wanted to do. I needed air. Before I blew a gasket.
After I’d walked a few yards away I heard a pop. EJ’s mom was beside me. I smiled, “Hi Haley.” She studied me, “I don’t know what’s going on, but you look like you need this.” She handed me a pink drink. I laughed, “I’m not old enough.” Haley rolled her eyes, “This damn realm. In a few weeks you’ll be legally old enough to get married and be considered an adult. Human children even have to decide what to do with the rest of their lives at eighteen. Jesus, it's so mean. What if they hate what they pick? Well, they go into debt to change their major...all to come out of school and probably not get a job in the field they f*****g picked. It’s madness.”
She shrugged, “Anyfuckingway. If you’re old enough to get married in a few weeks….you can have a strawberry martini under supervision of a f*****g adult. We are supernatural’s. Plus...your mom said it was fine.” I laughed and sipped the drink. I’d had alcohol before. My mom let me drink some wine last year. I smiled, “This is good.” Haley smiled, “I’m here if you ever want to talk. Now...I’m off to find this imaginary Melanie McAlister.” I sighed, “She’s not here. She got grounded.” Haley’s jaw dropped, “Are you f*****g kidding me? Again? I...are you all pulling a prank on me? Does this girl even exist? It's just a long running prank. I knew it! Even Eric is in on it.” I laughed, “She does exist. It’s not a prank.” Haley sighed, “If you’re sure. Like really f*****g sure.” I nodded, “Yup.” She sighed, “Ok then.” I finished my drink and handed it back to her. I sighed, “I’m going to walk around for a bit.” Haley nodded, “Of course. Fresh air always helps.” I laughed, “Said the sky and earth fairy.” She smiled, “Then you should know…..I’m right.” I laughed, “From what I know….you usually are.” Haley smiled, “I do so like you Elise Kyle.” I smiled, “I’m glad. I like you too.” I did. She was amazing. She smiled and walked back inside.
I sighed and started walking. Rhea grumbled, “Mate left.” I frowned, “Why?” Rhea sighed, “I don't know.” I shrugged, “He’ll be back.” I walked by a group of girls I’d never seen on my way back to the house. One sighed, “I just want one night with EJ Conners. I wore my best bra and lucky underwear.” Rhea growled, “Oh...this b***h is going down Elise.” I stopped walking. One girl rolled her eyes, “He’s gaga over his mate Trin.” Trin shrugged, “I’ll make him forget her. They aren't officially mates. The mate bond hasn’t kicked in.” Another friend sighed, “Trin...he’s part fairy. For him...the bond is there.” Trin shrugged them off, “You’re just jealous.” I growled, “Of what? The fact that you’re about to get your ass kicked?” She turned and I punched her in the face. I pinned her easily. I asked, “Who the f**k are you?” She whimpered, “I’m….We’re from out of town.” I growled, “That doesn’t seem like you answered my question.” I punched her again, “Who are you?” She whispered, “People call me Trin.” I got up and threw her at her friends, “Go near my mate and I’ll pulverize you. Got that?” Someone put their hand on my back. I turned to see Sam. She smirked at me.
Trin gaped, “You’re….Elise Kyle.” I said, “No, I just like to call EJ Conners my mate. YES I’m Elise Kyle. Get the f**k out of this territory.” Trin sneered, “You can’t do that.” I heard another voice, “Oh yes...she can.” I turned and smiled, “Hi Liam.” He nodded, “Future Luna Elise.” He turned to the girl, “Get out of this territory in the next five minutes or my warriors will take you and throw you out.” She turned red. She glared, “Stupid b***h! You’re just afraid of competition.” Rhea snarled and pushed forward. I let her. I tackled Trin to the ground and hit her repeatedly.
