CASSIE’S POV
Something was wrong before I even opened my eyes.
Pain ripped through me so violently that for one horrible second, I thought I was dying.
My entire body locked up beneath the blankets. I felt every muscle pulling tight as if invisible claws were tearing through my bones.
A broken gasp escaped my throat while my hands curled helplessly into the sheets.
I was in so much pain. It felt like my whole body was on fire.
The room around me was dark except for the silver moonlight coming in through the curtains.
I recognized the pain because it mainly affected my chest. It felt like fire was spreading through my whole chest. The heat I felt got more intense by the second.
I knew the pain was from the mate bond.
