Chapter 4
Lucien POV
My unwavering gaze was fixed on Evans. God knew I didn't want to hear any more excuses this time. Who would have thought this asshole would deliberately ignore all my messages without fearing what would happen if I eventually came to meet him?
"I can explain," he said, fear clearly showing on his face. "I saw your messages, but I didn't have the money..."
I cut him off sharply. "And that was why you deliberately ignored my messages?"
"I'm sorry, Your Majesty," he said, his voice cracking. "But...I have part of the money now."
"I want my money in full now," I told him, taking a step closer, but not until the lady sitting on the floor caught my attention.
The tears in her eyes... Not just the tears, but the bruises on her face. They were a clear testament to someone who had been through a lot lately.
"And who's she?" I asked, my gaze now fixed on her.
"My slave," he replied.
"I hate it when you call me your slave... You're my father," the lady said as a tear rolled down her cheek.
"Shut up, b***h!" he snapped. "If you knew who was standing before us, you wouldn't say a word." He turned back to me. "Forgive her manners, Your Majesty."
"She's your daughter?" I cut in.
"God forbid... I could never have a Titanic-sized daughter," he said distastefully.
"And who's she to you?" I asked, stepping closer.
"My stepdaughter," he replied.
This felt like the golden opportunity I've been waiting for, and right now is obviously the moment to remove one problem from my shoulders for good.
I nodded. "Hmm... Then I guess we can strike a new deal."
He flinched. "A new deal?"
"Yes," I said, now standing inches away from him.
"And what's going to be the new deal?" he asked, stammering.
"I marry her, and your debt..." I paused before continuing, "will be cancelled."
Gasps sounded throughout the room, and that was when I noticed the stunned eyes staring at us.
"Your Majesty..." He trailed off, his eyes wide with shock.
“Do you accept my offer?” I asked him.
He actually didn’t have a choice. I knew this asshole couldn’t raise such an amount of money to pay me in his entire life, so there was no point waiting for a payment that would never come. I initially planned to harm Evans, but I didn’t want it that way anymore. He had no money to settle the debt, but he had something that could solve my problem and completely silence the gossip that had been spreading throughout my pack.
“I hope this isn’t a joke?” he asked, still amazed. “I can’t believe you’re ready to cancel a fourteen-million-dollar debt in exchange for marrying this thing.”
I didn’t have time for too much talk. There was a lot to put back in place in my pack, and there was no point staying here for too long.
I turned to leave.
“I’ll send my Beta over to you first thing tomorrow morning. He’ll be coming with documents for you to sign, and by tomorrow evening, I’ll be coming to take my bride home,” I said while walking away.
I got outside the building with my Beta walking behind me and headed toward where my car was parked.
“Your Majesty, I don’t want to believe you mean what you said back inside that house,” my Beta said, his tone showing how unsettled and disappointed he was.
“Of course I mean it,” I told him.
“You can’t,” he said.
I stopped in my tracks.
I can’t?
What was that supposed to mean?
I turned to him. “What did you just say?”
“I’m sorry, Your Majesty, but I can’t let that happen. I remember the promise you made to your father on his deathbed. You can’t afford to break it as if it no longer matters,” he replied.
I huffed. “Really? Do I need your permission?”
“You promised your father you would marry someone who has royal blood, and she...” He pointed to his right, as though indicating the woman I would be marrying soon. “She doesn’t have a single drop of royal blood running through her veins. You can’t betray your father like this.”
That promise didn’t matter anymore. All I was marrying her for was convenience. Besides, I needed to prove to Bianca that I could still live without her.
Bianca cheated on me, and instead of feeling remorseful, she told me to my face that she was leaving and that she was sure I could never find a woman to replace her.
She was right. I loved her so much that I had even promised myself I would never get another woman after her. I trusted her, but she broke that trust. It was obvious she wanted to ruin my life, and she had succeeded. But even though I was still hurt by her leaving, I wanted the hurt to be something only I knew and felt.
Marrying Evans’s stepdaughter would make Bianca realize she was wrong, even though her leaving still haunted me. She would be forced to conclude that her leaving didn’t hurt me, since I was able to replace her within three weeks. Not only had I gotten myself a girlfriend, but I was also going to marry a woman who would play the role of my Luna. That would be the ultimate victory on my side.
“It still doesn’t change anything. I’m marrying that girl you saw inside, and there’s nothing you can do to change it,” I said dismissively.
“Someone as fat as that?” He chuckled. “You have to think twice.”
She was obviously too fat for my liking. I had no feelings for her whatsoever, but because I wanted revenge and needed to make Bianca jealous, I had to marry her regardless of what she looked like.
By this time tomorrow, Bianca’s heart would be completely broken. I bet she was going to feel the same pain she had put me through.
