The loud roaring echoed through the night, as he quickly rushed inside to his mate and child. He didn't stop his stride as Cecilia questioned him about what was going on and picked up Winter carrying her down into the cellar.
"There's an attack by rogues being carried out," he moved boxes and put his daughter behind them before turning to his mate. You and Winter hide here and keep safe."
She passed him and piled the boxes in front of Winter," I'm going with you."
He opened his mouth to protest, but the look she gave him shot down anything he could say.
Winter looked at her parents tears welling up in her eyes, "Please don't leave me! We can all hide here until they leave."
"Winter, my love," her mother gently took her small hands into her own and looked into her eyes, "Your father is a warrior he must go or he will be considered a traitor. As for me, even though I know it's selfish, I love my pack."
"I don't understand!" cried Winter tears falling down her cheeks as she held tightly to her mom's hands,"They're a mean pack! They always say bad things about us and they always hit us, or kick us! Just stay here!"
Pain flashed through Cecilia's eyes, "Oh, Winter! I'm sorry. I never wanted you to get hurt, or to suffer. I just wanted a place where you could grow up safe."
For the first time Cecilia realized what she was putting her mate and child through. Because of her love for the pack and her happy memories of it she blinded herself to the suffering of her family.
"After this, I promise, after this," Cecilia cried, "We will leave. We'll all go rogue."
"Then let's go now!" shouted Winter, "Let's just leave everything and go! We don't owe this awful pack anything."
Logan stepped in, "Winter, with rouges in the area it is too dangerous to leave right away. Let us get rid of them first and then we will all leave."
Winter cried silently as her parents packed boxes, and other items around her to keep her hidden until the danger passed.
"We love you with all our heart," her parents said as she heard the stairs creak as they walk up and out the back door into the night.
Cecilia and Logan ran fast through the snow covered woods, traveling to where they could hear the sounds of fighting.
As they came to a small clearing in the dense trees they could see Alpha Alexander fighting a group of seven rogues with the Beta and Gamma.
The group of rogues tore into the Alpha as the Beta and Gamma almost stood behind him seeking his protection.
I knew they were cowards, thought Logan as he rushed forward and leaped at the wolves landing on one of the rogues back he sunk his large canines into his neck.
Cecilia followed her mate, and crashed into the side of another wolf tearing into their leg. The other wolf let out a howl of pain.
The fight was violent and vicious, with the pair trying to get the group of wolves to fall back away from the Alpha.
When they finally reached him he was laying on the ground, unconscious due to the loss of blood.
Where is help, thought Cecilia, by now others from their pack should have shown up.
Logan mind-linked Beta Bryan, Where are the others?
Logan could only do this with his mate, child, the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma as he was not considered as part of the pack.
There are only a few rogues, replied Beta Bryan, so we don't need to call anyone else.
What! shouted Logan, Did the Alpha command this?
Logan never thought of the Alpha as a totally foolish man. A coward yes, but a foolish man no. He couldn't imagine him going into such a risky situation with only them.
Logan watched as the Beta's eyes changed. This bastard!
The Alpha told you to call the others, but you didn't! You disobeyed him!
They're just rogues! Beta Bryan defended himself.
Rogues are feared because they are strong you i***t! Logan shouted back. I am much stronger than you because I had to survive without a pack.
Beta Bryan growled feeling insulted that a filthy rogue was stronger than him. Beta Bryan mind-linked with the Gamma and then grabbed the Alpha.
Logan and Cecilia fought tooth and claws against the rogues. Cecilia turned to look at the Beta and Gamma for help, and watched as they took the Alpha and ran away.
Logan!
Logan turned to see Cecilia looking behind them quickly turning his head he watched the Beta and Gamma running away, and he felt his jaw dropped.
You cowards! He sent a mind link to the Beta and Gamma.
We have to save the Alpha! Our pack needs him not some filthy rogue! Beta Bryan responded back.
My mate and daughter is pack! You're abandoning them to save your own skin! shouted Logan in rage.
They closed their mind link and disappeared into the forest leaving them to deal with the rogues.
He heard a cry from Cecilia as one of the rogues latched onto her front paw.
Cecilia! he tried his best to get to her, but the rogues seeing him as the biggest threat wouldn't back off.
Logan, Cecilia cried, l'm sorry. I'm sorry that I forced you and Winter to stay here and suffer. We should have left. We should have left and never looked back!
We will! cried out Logan, We just need to get through this. After this, we will get Winter and leave.
A scream ran out through the snow covered woods, and Logan turned just as one of the rogues locked his jaws onto Cecilia's neck and with a jerk twisted it. Her body fell motionless to the ground.
Logan felt his whole life end as he watched. Everything just stopped. No sounds or sights came to him as he rushed to get to her.
However, the rogues all attacked him at once as he fought to end them. The rogues tore at his fur and the loss of blood started to get to him, sapping his strength. Falling to the ground his vision slowly faded until his last thought was about his daughter.
No, I cannot fall! If I do Winter will be all alone, with that shout his vision faded into darkness.
