Chapter 68 What Forgiveness Costs

951 Words

Evelyn's POV Evelyn walked through the Valentine estate garden. It was early morning and there was dew on the grass. Birds calling from the trees. This garden was old, well tended, full of plants her mother had chosen before Evelyn was even born. Sarah Valentine had walked these same paths. Touched these same flowers and breathed this same air. Evelyn stopped beside a rose bush. Deep red blooms. Her mother's favorite, according to Isaac. She thought about forgiveness. Isaac had forgiven Marguerite. Let go of the hate because carrying it was killing him. But Evelyn was not Isaac. She was angry at Marguerite, at her adoptive family, at Richard's three years of blindness and at Tonia's cruelty. The anger sat heavy in her chest like a weight she carried everywhere. "Is it worth it?"
