Chapter 7: A Gentle Stirring

272 Words
A soft breeze swept through the palace courtyard, carrying the scent of blooming cherry blossoms. Kael’s thoughts were elsewhere, lingering on the moments he had shared with Seris. Today, however, a letter arrived for him — a sealed note stamped with the insignia of the royal council. He opened it carefully, scanning the words. A festival was to be held in a few days, inviting nobles and dignitaries from nearby provinces. Attendance was mandatory, and Kael would have to be at the forefront of every ceremony. His chest tightened. The thought of being pulled away from the quiet moments with Seris made him uneasy. He glanced toward the garden, hoping to find her there, but she was not in sight. Minutes later, Seris appeared, carrying a small basket of flowers. “Kael, is everything alright?” she asked softly, noticing his worried expression. Kael handed her the letter. “It’s just… duties. A festival in a few days. I’ll be busy, and… I’m worried we won’t have time together,” he admitted, his voice tinged with unease. Seris’s gaze softened, and she placed a hand over his. “We’ll make time, Kael. Even amidst duties, there’s always a way to be together,” she whispered reassuringly. Kael felt a warmth spread through him, calming the fluttering tension. Her words were a gentle promise, a reminder that even small obstacles could not sever the bond they were building. As they walked through the courtyard side by side, petals drifting around them, Kael realized that love required patience, courage, and trust. And with Seris beside him, he felt ready to face whatever came next.
